  I felt like I had won the travelers lottery when I walked into this adorable cottage. It was beatiful, efficient, immaculate, and absolutely serene. I loved the outdoor, hot-water shower and patio with lovely rattan lounge chairs... The owner is a wonderful person to work with and I only hope I am fortunate enough to return to this cottage...and by the way Folly Beach is also wonderful; not too crowded during the week and almost deserted early in the mornings and in the evenings, lots of shops and restaurants...everything you need for a perfect beach get-away.

  Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, age 55+.

  Would I return? In a heartbeat! I spent the month of January in the Enchanted Cottage on Folly Beach; it is a magical place and so good for the soul! When you cross the bridge onto Folly Island, the world slips away and you enter a laidback lifestyle and the most dog friendly community you will ever experience. The cottage is exactly as depicted; I especially loved the patio and outside shower. Thank you (and Bentley) for providing such serene surroundings; I was so content. The cottage location is perfect as you are only two blocks from the Ocean, gorgeous sand beaches as far as the eye can see, and funky shops and restaurants on Folly's Center Street. I loved Planet Follywood's burgers, they are the absolute best and my favourite was the blue cheese and bacon. You have the best of both worlds here; it is a 10-minute drive into Charleston if you wish to explore the gorgeous architecture along Meeting Street and the Battery, which I highly recommend. I think I contracted island fever; you don't want to leave the island, you just want to go to the ocean! It was perfect. Nora Waddell, Deep River, Ontario, Canada

  Owner response: I think it takes a special kind of person to appreciate the simplicity (and size!) of the Enchanted Cottage, not to mention the guts to take an outdoor shower in January. (Note to all reading this: yes, there is an indoor shower but you can't beat looking up at the sky and seeing the beautiful, gnarled limbs of a live oak tree). Of course, I'm sure all those days with temperatures in the 70's made that shower experience very inviting. And thank you for reminding everyone about why Folly Beach isn't just any beach. Its proximity to all that is wonderful in Charleston (voted as the Number One Travel Destination City in the U.S. by Conde Nast and Travel & Leisure) makes it a great beach/history/art/culinary experience getaway. The serenity of the ocean in the morning. The sophistication, unique architecture, history and fabulous restaurants of the city in the afternoon or evening. Then back to the island to take one last look at the moon over the ocean. So glad you took the opportunity to savor it all. See you next winter?

  Cool little place to stay. Location was great, close to the beach, Folly beach bars and restaurants. Mary Ann is a pleasure to work with!

  I have stayed at Mary Ann's cottage twice a year for over 4 years now. Each time I leave and cannot wait to return. It is charming, peaceful and perfect! Mary Ann is an amazing host who goes out of her way to make you feel welcome. I really consider this place my second home. Folly has a way of working it's way into your heart and soul. I would encourage anyone looking for a special place to get away from the craziness of life to stay here! I am looking forward to my next stay in May... it cannot come soon enough! Enjoy!

  Dear Mary Ann, Thanks so much for allowing us to stay in your sweet, little cottage. We had our usual awesome week on Folly. The best of everything....perfect, warm, slight breeze, BLUE skies for the 1st half of the week. Then Sandy came to Folly Friday night and Saturday and with her came winds, rain and cooler days/nights. With the tin roof on the cottage....HEAVEN!!!!!!!! Small sample of everything. Lost Dog Cafe, Bert's Mkt., Lisa's Sushi....our favorites. The only negative....the daybeds on the main floor are NOT meant for sleeping. Lucky would not go up to the loft (neither would I) so we tried to make the day beds comfy....the bigger one was pretty good, but the narrower one, not so much. It would be so cool if the one was wider and there were pillow top twin mattresses on top of the wooden benchs! Heavenly beds for 2, bottom floor and VERY comfy bed in the loft! NOW, it sleeps 4! Win, win, right? LOVEEEEEED the out side shower! I have to find a place for one!. Happy holiday season to you and may winter be gentle.

And it's always good to hear that the hot and cold outdoor shower was enjoyed to the fullest. Re: the sitting area... in the online description it has always been described as being for "reading, lounging and watching tv" which is what it is meant for. Only two other guests, out of the many wonderful guests who have stayed in the cottage during the last 8 years, remarked that they, like you, preferred sleeping with their dog and so they slept in the sitting area on the wider of the two built-ins which they found to be comfortable. Thank you for the suggestion about how to turn it into a cottage that sleeps 4 but our intention is to continue to provide the optimal experience for single travellers or couples only as we believe that we can deliver on that promise by keeping it just as it is. We're just glad that everything else about your Folly Beach experience was just as delightful as our many guests find it to be! Many thanks to you and your husband (and your dog Lucky) for visiting and enjoying Folly Beach.

  Your place is lovely and very well designed. You are truly talented. We loved the gardens and the layout of the cottage. In fact, your layout gave my wife and me some good ideas for our own home. This is a first class place to stay.

  This cozy cottage was everything I could have asked for. My now wife and I got engaged during our stay at the cottage and had the time of our lives in Folly/Charleston. It was perfect walking distance to go to the beach everyday and we were still close enough to walk home from the bars at night. Overall this place was wonderful and I would definitely stay here every time I visit Folly.

  Owner response: It's wonderful that you became engaged to be married while staying in the cottage. Congratulations! I think that certainly says something for this very unique little cottage. Writers tell us that it relaxes them and allows them to write. Artists take breathers here. Mothers and daughters spend quality time together. But we have to say that the romantic factor seems to be the most predominant. Love must be in the ocean air. We hope you return for your honeymoon.

  My dog Rufus and I had the good fortune to stay at the Enchanted Cottage for the entire month of February. We found the cottage to be comfortable, private, and full of "good energy." The patio is a little paradise -- I loved the outdoor hot/cold shower, and Rufus loved/hated the squirrels! The location couldn't be much better: minutes from the beach, Bert's Market and Center Street -- I only used my car maybe once a week. Mary Ann was very helpful, but not intrusive at all. Personally, I'd rather rent from an owner than a property management agency, because they actually "care." A great experience, and I hope I'll have the chance to stay here again...

  Thank you so much for everything. I really did enjoy my stay in Folly Beach. It was clean and cozy. It was great to have both the beach and the Center St. shops so close. I am looking forward to going back to Folly Beach and hopefully the Enchanted Cottage.

  My wife and I stayed at Mary Ann's cottage in March of 2011 and I can't say enough good things about it. The privacy of the little patio area and the outdoor shower (my favorite part), coupled with the cozy little cottage made it seem like our little corner of paradise. Mary Ann was very much available if we needed anything, but never intruded on our privacy. The beach is only a couple of short blocks away, and on the way is Bert's Market where there's free coffee. Perfect for a morning wake-up. The cottage is small, but everything you need is there and it's a good exercise in realizing the things you normally drag along but never use. I loved the spiral staircase and loft bedroom. The TV is small, but who goes to the beach to watch TV? We never even turned it on! We have a son at The Citadel with two more years to go and we plan to make this our first call on future trips to Folly Beach and can only hope it's available. Highly recommended!
