We can’t come up with anything for improvement. Your house was wonderful, very comfortable, and a treat for us to stay in. As I mentioned before, we lived only a few blocks down Kainalu Rd. from where your place is. It was just like being back home, except a bit better with the excellent location just across Kalaheo from the beach park. We loved that fact that you provided so many beach toys and accessories….the kids especially enjoyed the boogie boards. Wishing we could have stayed longer! Maybe someday…and now we know who to call for a rental. If I get on the ball, we will send you the picture we took from the lanai. Thanks again for opening your home to share with us.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

Bill was excellent to work with, responding to our questions in a timely fashion and his Oahu manager was professional and courteous. The property was exceptionally clean. We stayed for 6 nights with 4 generations from my mother to my 7 month old granddaughter. Addison slept well in the portable crib. Having 2 1/2 bathrooms and laundry facilities was very convenient. The outdoor patio is private and fenced in. The bbq worked well and the kitchen was well equipped. We really appreciated all the beach equipment and the close proximity to the beach. The property is also within walking distance of the shopping area that was very convenient for our large group. We explored the north shore and were in close proximity to Kaula Ranch and the Polynesian Cultural Center. We would highly recommend it and hope to return in the near future for another family vacation.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

The first thing that impressed us was the location in a quiet neighborhood even though it was a half block from Kalaheo Ave. Although this is an old neighborhood most the homes are well kept, and in particular this one. It was a classy home maybe 30 years ago. I would rate this home a five star if the oak floors were refinished (this is a hint to the home owners). The kitchen could use a new linoleum floor. The exterior is just wonderfully kept, with outstanding landscaping. The new privacy fence in the lanai is a great addition. It was important to us that the the broadband was flawless. The A/C also worked flawlessly, but we had to keep the small bedroom units on all day to stay comfortable. Up to date electronics, including Blu-ray and sound system. The beach towels and other beach accessories really came in handy. The two-car carport is a very nice touch. And finally a rice cooker, even!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: We completely agree about the floors (the last step in our remodel) and are having strand bamboo floors put in this spring. Stay tuned!

The house was bright and breezy. Much larger that it looked in the pictures. Plenty of room from 5 adults. Had a really great time. Close to everything. The beach was a short stroll down the block. We really enjoyed the July 4th parade (at the other end of the block). Bill was very prompt at getting back to us when we were renting and the property manager was great in answering our phone call even when we got there late (luggage snaffu at the airport) Some real good restaurants close by Cinnamon's and Buzz's. Also Kalapawai Market is great for gourmet sandwiches. If you want a really big thrill, there's a fellow at Dillingham Airfield who has a 1941 Stearman Bi-plane and he'll fly you down one of the routes the Japanese flew into Pearl Harbor. Awwwwsome!!!! My daughter and I did it. Got to wear the leather WWII flyers helmuts with the earphones, so the pilot could tell you details as you flew. Got some great pictures.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.

We believe the photographs do not do justice to the amazing Happy Kailua Beachside Home. The windows allow for a great breeze from the beach to come into the house. The house is extremely peaceful and rejuvenating. Everything we needed was provided for...except, of course, our food. We brought our 3-year-old and our 6-month-old and had a relaxing and enjoyable time with them. We walked to the beach everyday and our kids loved it! The beach was not crowded at all and definitely not touristic, which was the best part about it, and the park at the beach was perfect to hang out. This is the beach were a scene from "The Dependants" was filmed--it was breathtaking! The best part about the house was the location. Were were in walking distance to the beach, the grocery store (loved that Whole Foods and Starbucks were nearby), several restaurants, a great hang out place at "A Cup of Tea," among others. A cycling store is nearby to rent bicycles from and join the locals on the great bike paths.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Thank you Bill for sharing your piece of the island. We stayed in early April and had a great time. This is not my first stay in the wonderful town of Kailua and will not be my last, I believe Kailua has the best sandy beaches. The house was very clean upon our arrival and very well stocked, from the kitchen, the bathrooms, beach towels, beach chairs, beach toys, coolers, etc. All we had to do was get some groceries, unpack and relax. I was very glad that there was a 2nd propane tank on the lanai for the grill because the one ran out. There was 6 in our party and we certainly had plenty of everything we needed. The outside lanai was where I spent most of my time when we were back at the house, the half bath on the lanai was very convenient. I should add the walk to the beach is very short or a very short drive to Kailua Beach Park. The pictures accurately portray the house and I would definitely stay here again and recommend this house to friends. Thank you again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I, along with our 2 adult sons, stayed for a week in early March. The house was well-appointed. Bedrooms were nice , with comfortable beds, and we really appreciated the bath towels, beach towels and beach gear, and toiletries. Home is in a quiet neighborhood only 1/2 block from the beach and a very short drive into Kailua. Our only complaint was the crazy weather - thunderstorms, torrential rain, and even hail! But we had a great time anyway and would definitely stay in the Happy Kailua home again.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.

LOVED IT! Steps to Kalama Beach Park where I grew up, 1min drive to Kalapawai for coffee every morning, convenient to highways, shopping, restaurants and just a hop over the Pali or H2 to Honolulu for all the touristy spots too. Beachy feel, very quiet neighborhood, decent decor and enjoyed the "old Hawaii" feel in a modern setting. Oh, and beautifully landscaped! Will go again. Thank you Bill, Aloha.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Photos and description were exactly as advertised. We have stayed at many other rentals and this was absolutely the best. Well stocked, especially in kitchen and bathrooms, obviously cared for, very clean throughout. Washer and dryer very helpful. In a wonderful quiet neighborhood close to beaches and also close to town. Trade winds come through and we didn't even need air conditioners at night. Patio area perfect for meals and just relaxing. Carport a real bonus! Perfect spot to come and go for day trips. We were studying for our class and whether inside or out we could be comfortable. Loved local food at Farmer's Market and Kalapawai Market. Bay City Diner really good and even the deli at Foodland had great snacks! Aloha Salads really fresh and good prices. Owner and property manager very available and helpful! It just felt like home away from home! We will be back for sure!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

This is a wonderful house to stay at in Kailua. Its so close to the beach, that you will spend more time getting ready for the beach than walking to it. The house is clean and well stocked with everything you will need from cooking to beach bumming. It was very clean and welcoming. The size of the house was very comfortable for our family of 5. My family has food allergies, so I do a lot of cooking and this house had all the kitchen supplies and appliances I needed to feed my family. I will be recommending this house to anyone looking for a great place to stay. The owner of the house as well as the manager of the property were very helpful and friendly whenever I had a question.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

While our stay was brief, we had a great time at the house. Great location and great amenities. The local property manager and owner went above and beyond to assist us in retrieving a left-behind item. We did encounter a few of the local critters (of the insect sort), though I suppose that is to be expected on a tropical island!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: The only time anyone experiences roaches is when food is left out in the sink overnight. There are no roaches living in our home. Please be sure and clean up often and especially before bed.

We really enjoyed our 10 day stay here. The house is great for people with young kids (we have 3-year-old twins) _ the furniture is simple and sturdy and nothing that could break easily. There's a room with twin beds for the kids, and the master bedroom is down the hallway, so it's nice and private, but on the same level. The best part is the location _ Kalama Beach Park is a very easy, 5-minute walk down a quiet street, and the beach is very mellow, much less crowded and touristy than Kailua Beach Park. Kailua is fantastic, the best place to stay on Oahu: there's a great bookstore, kid-friendly coffee shops, 5 or 6 very good restaurants and fun tidepools to explore at the Lanikai end of the beach. We took the kids kayaking down the canal all the way to Enchanted Lakes, which was a peaceful outing, to the free Hawaiian music show in Kuhio Beach Park and up to Shark's Cove on the North Shore to poke around, and were always glad to get back to "our" house. Consider renting a bike, though it's spendy, but the walk into town is *just* long enough with little ones, and on a busy-ish street, that we usually wound up taking the car to get in to Foodland or the farmers' market. In a perfect dream world in which *we* owned this house, I might change a few things _ fence in the backyard, password protect the wifi and add a dishwasher and an outdoor shower come to mind _ but this was definitely the best place we've stayed in five visits to the Hawaiian islands. The owners were very responsive and kind. Mahalo, Bill! We'll happily recommend your place to our friends.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Love this review. Dead on description of our location and relationship to town and beach. Excellent suggestions as well. Will password-protect wifi immediately. May put small fence in if gardener agrees it fits into landscaping, and a dishwasher is definitely in the works! Shower at Kalama Park is what most folks use after time at the beach, and then our hose out front for sandy feet.

My husband and I along with our daughter and her family were lucky enough to pick the Happy Kailua Beach House to spend our Christmas holiday. We had a wonderful time. The location and the weather were unbeatable! A short walk to the most awesome beach on Oahu. Minutes from downtown Kailua and centrally located for all of our day trips around the island. (We are former Oahu residents.) The accomodations were perfect for the 6 of us. Communication with the owner and the property manager were excellent. We are planning to return! The Happy Kailua Beach house is well named. We walked to the beach everyday. The house is well equipped with beach chairs, boogie boards and an umbrella for the beach.Although beautiful Kalama Beach Park has shade areas also. This was our first trip to Hawaii. The downtown restaurants in Kailua are terrific. The shave ice was a unique treat. We rented a Jeep and were thrilled we had covered parking at night and didn't have to put the top up.I don't know how people stay in a hotel all week with this kind of alternative. It is experiencing Hawaii like the locals do.We did the Happy house dance everyday.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway.

This was our Thanksgiving Week Vacation, people who stayed were Me, my daughter, my parents, and a buddy of mine. Our first day there which was sunday we just kicked back. What was helpful was guest books that were on the desk & in the drawer of previous guest adventures. There were lot of things we wanted to do which other guest did, but couldnt get to it due to constraints. We went to the beach a few times during the week, my daughter love boogie boarding, me and my friend met some nice people from Germany and Sweeden. Recomend going to Pearl Harbor its within 40 minutes or so, as other people said we saw too, get there before 7 am, it does get crowded. We also took a drive to Honoululu to see the Hawaii art museum, also if you havent done luau, should go to one, we went to Germaine's Luau they were great, it was my daughter and I second Luau, it was nothing like the first. I should say look through the guest book at the house and see what other guest have gone, it will help you figure out what you would want to see. We all had great time. We took our 8 month old and 2.5 year old to Hawaii to visit family in Kailua and the Happy Kailua House was the perfect place to stay. It is clean, well-stocked with household items and beach toys, and the backyard is perfect for the kids to lounge in after their post-beach naps. The location is ideal - close to town but just off the beaten path to feel like 'real life' in Kailua. Also, the beach is so close - our toddler walked there without any complaint (or needing a stroller). We hope to return soon!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

After arriving in Kailua and being disapointed with the house that we had rented, I scrambled and found this home available. The owner was very quick to get into the home and we are SOOOO glad we did. The house is clean and just what we needed. An easy walk to the beach but not on the beach so not a lot of traffice in front of the house. House had everything we needed and felt like someone's home they had just lent to us. We felt very welcomed and will reserving this house the next time we come. We had left the kiddos home this time but they will be back as this house is perfect for a small family. We had a wonderful time at the Happy Kailua Beach House. The house is just a block from the beach - the perfect location for daily morning swims. The waves at Kalama Beach are great for boogie boarding or just splashing around and having fun. The setup in the house was very nice for our family of five. There was quite a lot of room, and everyone felt very comfortable. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to avoid the typical tourist experience and would prefer to experience life as a local instead.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed at the Happy Kailua Beach House after Christmas and over New Years. It was fantastic. We were accompanied by my two daughters, my older daughter's husband, and their 1 1/2 year old. It was the perfect place for us in terms of space and set up. The owner provided everything we needed, including port-a-crib, high chair, towels, chairs and umbrellas, boogie board, and even snorkel and fins. The patio was where we ate every meal and the barbeque set up was excellent. Information and Foodland or Safeway discount cards were there for our use, and we used them constantly. Being so close to the beach was very convenient and important since we had a toddler. We walked the beach most mornings to get our lattes and watch the sunrise. We were there when Obama was just down the beach, and this added a dimension to the trip as well. We spent New Year's Eve there and were amazed at the local firework displays...lots of fun. Overall, it was a great experience which I would repeat again gladly!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

With our two young children and a friend/nanny joining us for part of the trip, this was the perfect house for our vacation. The house was very clean and is ½ block from the Kailua beach and in a quiet neighborhood. The owners have stocked the house nicely with furnishings, everything one would need in the kitchen, a nice flat screen TV, stereo system with an iPod docking station, and the outdoor storage is loaded with sand toys, boogie boards, coolers, mats, lounge chairs, and sun umbrellas. My son enjoyed taking the red, monster truck to the beach every day and my daughter spent her afternoons filling up the buckets with sand. The beaches and waves are the perfect size for small children and I fell in love with Lanikai beach. What a beautiful place. The layout of the house is comfortable and the bedrooms are situated nicely with the master at one end of the hall and the kids room at the other end of the hall. All of the bedrooms have air conditioning, which made sleeping extra comfortable. We have spent many vacations on several of the islands and we thoroughly enjoyed Kailua. The people are friendly and the town does not feel touristy at all. If you watch Lost, you may run into an actor or two in town. I saw “Hurley” while driving back from the grocery store. The sunrises are beautiful and one morning, I walked from the Happy Kailua house to the “green little grocery store” along the beach, got a latte, and walked back. It was a two to three mile walk and was very enjoyable. The owners have a guest book at the house with lots of restaurant recommendations, best places to go, etc. When we wanted a change of scenery and pace, we drove 20 minutes to Honolulu to visit the zoo, aquarium, and beach. We will definitely be back! Enjoy the Happy Kailua House as it is a special place.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Staying at the Happy Kailua Beach House was a wonderful experience. The business transaction was smooth, the house itself was everything that it was said to be (clean, well stocked, comfortable beds, great location in a family neighborhood and a great uncrowded beach close by) I would recommend this house to anyone especially with small children as there is a yard for them to play in and toys for the beach. Amazing. The house was just perfect. We have a 2 yr old and a nanny and the house couldn't have been setup better for us. The kidders was able to sleep well in the room at the end of the hall, and the pack-n-play was a perfect crib for her so we didn't have to lug our own on the plane. The beach toys provided were loads of fun and being able to wake up with the birds and walk down to the beach in our PJ's with Coffee to watch the sunrise was an experience I'll never forget. If you find the 2-3ft surf at the beach right down the block from the house to be intimidating, drive for about a mile west on the road that runs along the beach and you'll get to a much calmer beach where our baby and my preggers wife felt comfortable splashing around. The property owner was super helpful both as we planned our trip with questions and once we got there, even though he was stuck in California! The place was clean, the cable had lots of channels, the BBQ was large and had plenty of propane - 10 out of 10. All and all, a fantastic vacation and a wonderful house.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We came down for a pre-deployment holiday and family gathering and belated Christmas on Oahu and we were not disappointed. The Holt family was gracious and very responsive to our reservation and had great follow-up prior to our arrival and after returning home as well. We found so much more there than we expected (go to the house first and then to the grocery store!). All things were as advertised and I loved the Malasada's at Agnes' even if the rest of the were more at like than love. Beach is close, town is close, USMC base is close and it feels like home. We all hated the day we packed up to come home. We are sure you'll have a great time at the Happy Kailua Beach House!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

We had a wonderful time at your cozy, comfy home in Kailua. Everything was perfect for this small family of three with a toddler in tow. Proximity to the beach is amazing and such a treat for us Northwesterners. We couldn't have been more comfortable or more relaxed unless we'd been home!Did you find this review helpful? We have just returned home from a much too short 9 day trip to O'ahu! Your lovely home provided us with a cozy place to call home while we were in Kailua. We were traveling with 3 children and my mother, and the house was just right for all of us. We appreciated having the cooler on wheels as well as boogie boards and the skim board and buckets and other beach goodies. Everything was even better than we had expected. We had not been to the area in 10 years and were surprised to see all of the changes......especially the number of people on Lani Kai beach....where we used to live. Delighted to see the"Mayor " of Lani Kai still roaming the beach daily. We will definitely keep your information for future vacations! Thank you for opening your home to us. P.S. Loved the photos!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

I am writing this on our last evening in the house. It has been fantastic. As the others have said, it is very close to amazing beaches, very very close to shops and restaraunts. The owners have really thought of every little thing. And the home is even more beautiful then in the photos. Would suggest this joint to anyone.Did you find this review helpful? Kailua definitely has the best beach on Oahu, but the Kalama area is the best of Kailua. The beach at the Kalama Beach Park was perfect. It was clean, uncrowded, flat and not rocky. It was calm enough for our 1 year old yet the waves were big enough for boogie boarding and surfing. There were no crowds even on Thanksgiving weekend. Your house was in a perfect location, too. I was afraid it would be too far to walk for our young children, but it wasn't--only 1/2 block. We had been warned of the construction on the main beach road but this was actually a blessing because the road was closed which kept traffic out. We didn't hear any noise (except the beautiful birds singing in the trees!). The house was very comfortable, clean and well-stocked. Kailua is a nice town with good food and shopping. We drove around the entire island and were so thankful we had chosen Kailua for your home. No crowds, quiet, yet with easy access to the North Shore, Honolulu, Diamond Head, and Hamauma Bay. We hope to return and definitely would recommend your home to our friends.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 5/5

Our family of 3 had a GREAT time in Kailua and loved this house! It definitely had room for another family of 3 to join us. It had lots of thoughtful touches, like big huge beach towels, all the beach accessories including kid toys and handy cooler, as well as laundry facilities so you don't have to pack up your dirty/sandy clothes. The entertainment center is top notch and the house is just overall very simple, yet nicely decorated and very comfortable. You can literally walk to the beach and Kailua and Lanikai beaches are the best around. It literally took us 20-minutes to get to Waikiki/Honolulu area so you are still close enough to the action. We loved Kailua and we loved this house - totally recommend it!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 5/5

Perfect home close to the perfect Hawiian beach. Very clean and equipped with everything you need in the house and on the beach. Very nice sized rooms. Much nicer than the pictures on the internet show. We loved it and will highly recommend it to others.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
