If you're looking to find a Yosemite vacation rental home with that 'Rustic, Mountain, Lodge-like' feel then your search may very well be over. Nestled on more than 7 acres amongst giant native Oaks, Cedars, Manzanita and pines, this beautiful & spacious 1600 sq. ft. 2 & 1/2 bedroom Cabin is one of the area’s MOST popular places to stay and offers friends and families traveling together a wonderfully unique and memorable Yosemite lodging experience.

Its magical, mountain style adds much to the atmosphere of this wonderful place that comfortably accommodates from two, to four adults and accompanying children. The two separate floors, each with their own King bed, and full bathroom make the layout essentially two separate suites, really IDEAL for two couples!

**LIVING, KITCHEN & DINING AREAS

From the moment you walk in the door, you’ll know you’ve come “home” to the mountains. The Little Lodge’s living room is large and spacious and includes two full-size sofas, a recliner and several comfortable chairs. This sitting area surrounds the awesome, stone, wood-burning fireplace and behind it is the piano. Also in this room is the entertainment center where you’ll find the stereo system w/iPod port, TV w/DVD/VCR and extensive satellite channels, including HBO. There is an abundance of adult and children’s board games here as well as an eclectic collection of movies and a couple of Kid’s corners full of books, toys and surprises.

At the opposite end of this room is the side door which leads directly out onto the back patio area, and to the SPA. On the next level is the dining area that seats up to eight. This room sits adjacent to big country kitchen that is FULLY-stocked with every convenience, has modern appliances, refrigerator, tile countertops, dishwasher, microwave and more, the back door leads right out back to the clean, gas grill.

**THE BEDROOMS and BATHS

The unique and spacious bedrooms are all beautifully appointed with both modern and antique furniture as well as comfortable, quality beds. The large, Master Bedroom is located on the main floor and has a King-size bed, a sitting/reading area, a daybed with trundle and a private, outdoor patio - A family of up to four can comfortably stay in this room.

The second bedroom is located upstairs on the third level and also has a King-size bed, a loveseat, and its own full bathroom with both a tub, and shower. There is also a TV, DVD/VCR player as well as a separate Satellite receiver in this room. There are vaulted ceilings with skylights, a twin-size bed in the Nook half-bedroom and a twin-sleeper in the loveseat making this room large enough for a family of four as well. The third bedroom, AKA the 'Nook' is a very small room, off this bedroom, great for kids! There is a Queen size sleeper sofa and an Aero bed in the living room for additional guests, if needed.

The second, full bathroom is located on the main floor, a full-size washer and dryer are also located in this same room and for your convenience, we provide earth-friendly laundry soap and even a drying rack for those of you who would like one. The washer and dryer are available to all our guests, regardless of the duration of their stay.

**And OUTSIDE…

You’ll find the aged-brick patio area with the redwood table for casual, outdoor dining and you’ll be astounded by the beauty of the forest that surrounds you. From absolutely every angle the view is magnificent, giant trees, peek-a-boo distant views, an assortment of wildlife and incredible birds.

The full-size spa is delightful. It is just steps from the back door, exceptionally well-kept and available ALL YEAR LONG. The night sky from here is amazing, the absolute quiet renewing.
There is a plethora of outdoor furniture sprinkled around the house and grounds, a Foosball table out back and a large, open, courtyard area in front that is complete with Badminton and swing set, a child’s playhouse & slide and a seasonal campfire pit, surrounded by an abundance of old growth, fruit bearing trees.

**FOR THE CHILDREN

The Little Lodge is one of the few that is obligingly set up for the kids. We make a real effort here to cater to families traveling with children and offer the use of a wide variety of baby/child items such as highchair, booster seat, crib & Pak-n-Play (travel cot) as well as lots of books & toys. The home is exceptionally child friendly and outside, you'll find a log cabin play house, a sand box, a slide and small cars to ride in etc. for the smaller children. And don’t forget about that Foosball table!

*** LOCATION ***

Why stay in Mariposa as opposed to 'IN' the park?? Check the LOCATION 'in Yosemite'! Fish Camp and Wawona require nearly the same travel time to Yosemite Valley as does Mariposa but Hwy 140 from Mariposa allows for faster travel year-round (it's 25-35 mph. 'inside' Yosemite, not so on Hwy 140), and FAR safer travel in the winter months (this Hwy being the ONLY 'All-Weather' highway, remaining open during all four seasons). PRIVACY is another reason, 'in Yosemite' also tends to mean 'in a development', check on NEIGHBOR PROXIMITY, expected NOISE levels and PARKING access, our Mariposa places are all PRIVATE, secluded, QUIET and have plenty of convenient parking. ACCESS TO TOWN, make sure you won't be wanting the convenience of being five to ten minutes from all that our quaint, historic town has to offer if you do decide to stay 'inside Yosemite', and be prepared to plan accordingly... access to town from The Little Lodge is a snap! And finally, COST... We simply offer more, for less ;-).

** 4 hours from Los Angeles
** 3 hours from the Monterey/Carmel By The Sea area
** 2.5 hours from the Greater SF Bay Area/San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento and San Jose International Airports
** 1 hour from Fresno International AIRPORT
**35 minutes min from YOSEMITE'S ARCH ROCK ENTRANCE (Hwy 140)
**50 minutes to YOSEMITE VALLEY, 1.25 hours to Badger Pass Ski Resort
**50 min to Yosemite's SOUTH ENTRANCE, (GLACIER POINT, Wawona, GIANT SEQUOIAS etc.)
** 5 minutes to town (Mariposa), 30 min. to Oakhurst, 40 min. to Bass Lake

The Little Lodge sits adjacent to the small mountain community of Midpines, just four miles east of Mariposa. The Merced River Recreation Area at Briceburg is just 8 miles away and has small, sandy beaches just perfect for picnics, wading, and summertime swimming. The river is also great for fishing, hiking, camping, wild life viewing, and for the even more adventurous, white-water rafting and kayaking. There are several commercial rafters who provide trips down portions of the river.

Guests can easily enjoy Yosemite's south entrance too which is up Hwy. 41, outside of Oakhurst, Traveling that direction you’ll find things to see and do such as the Giant Sequoias, Glacier Point, Bass Lake with it's water sports, beaches and restaurants and the historic Sugar Pine Railroad.

This was a wonderful get away from the big city. Yosemite is beautiful and this little lodge was the perfect little stay for our family. Animal friendly, quit, cozy, peaceful, and relaxing. We spend our evenings enjoying the fireplace and the spa. I would highly recommend the little lodge and do plan to go back yealy if possible!

My family of four stayed in the main house and used it as a "base camp" for day trips during the summer to Yosemite and Bass Lake. This was a great place for us. Kirsty took care of everything - even a bottle of wine from a nearby winery was waiting for us upon our arrival. One cherished memory of our stay there was sitting in the spa/jacuzzi in the late afternoons after our day trips and, as if on cue, a deer and her 2 fawns strolled by unfailingly. (Deer sightings not guaranteed, I'm sure!) There was plenty of space for the kids to play. They loved sleeping upstairs in the bedrooms, while we parents had privacy downstairs. We also loved the BBQ, too. We definitely had the feeling of being "away from it all" and surrounded by nature, but we had all the comforts of home at the Little Lodge. If we stay in the Yosemite area again, we hope this will be our first stop.

We had a wonderful time at the Little Lodge. The things that made it special were: hottub was HOT, the way it should be, not throttled down to save a buck, the grounds were beautiful, we felt like we were in Yosemite, it's a very short drive, with no major change of scenery. Our dogs loved it, they had in/out roaming priveledges, not found elsewhere, and with the many windows, we could keep an eye on them too. The kitchen was very well equipped, and there is a strong family and children "presence" which adds to the charm. We also liked that it was far enough off the road we did not feel like our dogs were in danger of going in the road, and the privacy was 100%. The nearby town was friendly, and there is a great little museum with many really cool gold rush era items. You can even pan for gold in the creek I am told, we are saving the gold strike for next time. Thanks for keeping a plade where we are welcome with our dogs, it was a perfect getaway! We Loved It!

We brought our 2 year old son for his first trip to Yosemite and snow and stayed at the little lodge. It was fabulous! Everything you need and more - comfortable beds, plenty of room, a hot tub, tv/stereo/DVD, you name it. Super kid friendly too with toys, high hair, pack and play, even kiddie silverware and cups. Our son loved the outdoor play area with swings and playhouse and also loved whooshing down the hill on the tricycle. Beautiful setting, peaceful and quiet, but not too far into town. Our dog loved romping through the woods. It's a 40 minute gorgeous drive into the park. As much as we love Yosemite, it was great to stay in Mariposa where we had tons of space and were away from the crowds. Mariposa is a cute town too - check out the museum in town, high country cafe for delicious healthy fare, happy burger for good burgers and fries, and pioneer market for everything else. Thanks Kirsty for everything, we'll be back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Little Lodge! The house is cozy and charming, as well as being very well equipped. The property is really beautiful in its woodsy setting. The nearby town of Mariposa has a grocery store and some good restaurants, and the home is decently situated for entering Yosemite from either the west or south entrance. Kirsty was especially helpful in giving us advice on planning our time there, and there are some excellent resources at the house for touring Yosemite and for hiking in the area. They even left us a lovely book about Yosemite to take with us! We were very pleased with everything about this vacation rental and would highly recommend it!

My son still talks about "our little house in the woods" near Yosemite. We loved this cozy home and our 4 year old son simply did not want to leave. The house is just as pictured online. We spent each of our days exploring and hiking in Yosemite then drove back to the house to soak in the hot tub and make dinner. We really appreciated the incredibly stocked kitchen, the high quality beds, the privacy that both the upstairs and downstairs suites enjoy from the rest of the house, the beautiful grounds (we saw many deer and heard wild turkeys (?) and owls at dusk each day, and the special touches for children. My son happily played inside and outside with all of the toys provided during any of our downtime at the house. Also, Yosemite was absolutely beautiful in May! We hope to return next year with another small family to continue exploring Yosemite and the other areas around this house. The drive times provided here by the owner are accurate and definitely something to keep in mind. Our drive in along the Merced River each day became a bit of a ritual complete with its own soundtrack and an ice cream break each way, but it did test the limits of our four year olds' patience in the car a few times. Then again, he loved spotting the first view of the river and all the rafts coming down, etc. so we made it work. It was definitely worth it to get away from the crowds of the park and to have all of the amenities this house provides. Overall, this house was the perfect blend of comfort, quiet and proximity to Yosemite for us. Kirsty was helpful and responsive and has done a wonderful job of creating a home that feels like you are staying with good friends. I especially highly recommend this house to families with young children.

It's just wonderful when people leave such detailed descriptions as then others may see what they can truly expect to encounter. We thank You, and do hope to have you return! Kirsty & Jerry

Loved the Little Lodge. Kirsty was so personable and attentive to me, made me feel like I was her only guest in months which I know wasn't true! The house is well appointed with a well stocked kitchen, lots of towels, blankets and SO MUCH KID STUFF! My sons are 5 and 8 and didn't want to leave - board games, building toys, hot tub, play structure. We enjoyed building fires, they had all we needed to start them, and the beds are of great quality - we actually slept well! Would love to visit in summer or fall when we could enjoy the property and hang-out outside. About an hour to Yosemite Valley, easy drive but I can see it could get traffic-y in summer. We entered at all 3 entrances and the drive was fine and adventurous. Mariposa is a cute town, food is priced well at the local grocery - we never ate out b/c the house was so great. My kids loved the mining museum.

Owner response: We were thrilled to hear how helpful all the kid's stuff ended up being for you all, Kathy, we know only too well how disappointing it can be have chosen a place where there's nothing for the kids to be doing. Comfortable, quality beds is another thing we take seriously so we were exceptionally pleased to know you slept well... nothing quite like a bad bed to ruin an otherwise delightful vacation. Anyway, can't wait to have you back, thanks for leaving your review! K & J

Wow, what an incredible escape. We called Kirsty from Merced to tell her we were on the way. Talk about hospitality. When we arrived, the air was brisk but the cabin was toasty warm with a fire going in the wood stove and relaxing music playing on the stereo. The hot tub was incredible, the views extraordinary and the privacy akin to having your own hideaway behind a locked gate. We had the cabin for two days while we hiked in Yosemite. We hated to leave but have the warmest of memories not only of the this exceptional cabin but the down home hospitality afforded to us by our hosts.

We absolutely loved our stay at this cabin. We had a two year-old and it was her first real vacation. There were so many toys generously provided by the owners, a great playground with a playhouse, a swing and even a tricycle and so much more inside and outside of the house, that she was entertained all four days we spent at the cabin. Kid friendliness was beyond our expectations and made a great difference. The house is incredibly cozy and organized very thoughtfully. We felt like home from the moment we entered it. We greatly appreciated the generosity of the owners with providing every necessity and so much more. We just did not want to leave. The landscape around the house is very serene. It is quiet and relaxing. Even if we chose not to go anywhere and stayed in the house, we would not be bored at all. We hope to be back!

Everything and more than the listing stated. The property was clean and well maintained. The owners responded a phone call with a quick question very warmly and welcomed calls with questions. I'd recommend this property when visiting Yosemite as it's the best route into the park. Would highly reecommned to others.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2005

About the owner: ~ Jerry and Evan on the Ridge at the Merced River ~ Jerry and I (Kirsty) are both semi-retired professionals and consider ourselves extremely fortunate to live so close to Yosemite. We are local, managing owners who live a convenient 10 miles away from this home (we do not reside 'on-site' at any of our three rental properties, rest assured your stay with us will remain private). We have over 35 combined years living in the Yosemite area and are nearly always available for assistance without EVER being underfoot or intrusive. **OF PARTICULAR IMPORTANCE** This home's driveway, unlike MANY in our rural mountain area, is located right off a quiet, paved country road, you won't be forced to navigate miles of steep, rough, un-paved, muddy/dusty, or rutted dirt roads to reach this cabin (something to seriously consider when making your vacation rental choice). The base-rock driveway allows for virtually any (all-wheel drive is always recommended in snow) vehicle to easily reach the property year-round and the surrounding roads are quickly plowed in the case of occasional, Mariposa snowfall. To see MORE PHOTOS, GUESTBOOK entries and OUR TWO OTHER PROPERTIES, please CLICK on the LINK at the bottom of this page, in the 'Links to more information' section, right below 'RATES'. Hope to see you soon, at Yosemite's Little Lodge!!

                      Why the Owner Chose Mariposa:
As you may have suspected by now, we are the owners of three of the vacation rental homes in the Mariposa area, all are within nine miles of one another. This was our third to obtain and was an impromptu purchase, to say the least. We went to a yard sale and purchased the house! From the moment we drove up the drive, I knew this was a PERFECT place for a vacation rental, particularly one in the mountains as outside, it was SO like being in Yosemite with all the giant trees and native birds and inside, well, the Lodge-like qualities of the house were uncommonly characteristic of the area and just magical while the layout was simply ideal for larger groups and gatherings,...we just HAD to have it. We inquired about the sale and discovered then that The Lodge had, at one time, been a successfully run B&B called Dick & Shirl's. Some things are just meant to be. So that's the story of how The Little Lodge, our largest and most rustic retreat, came to be, we hope you'll perhaps consider staying there during your getaway time in Yosemite. ~ All emails and phone messages WILL be returned promptly, usually within 1-12 hours...If you do NOT hear back from us within 24 hours, please try again! (emails do get lost from time to time but we DO reply to EVERY single one ;-) ~ Between TWO and SEVEN night minimum stay required... ~ Minimum number of nights required varies depending upon Season, as well as the number of nights available - PLEASE INQUIRE ~ Security deposits are refundable within 7 days of departure (terms must be met) Please Visit our HOME SITE (link right below the rates section) for more photos, some great local area information, an incredibly helpful summary of the seasons and our guestbook, kind of fun to read. ;-)

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Although a short distance from Yosemite itself, staying at The Little Lodge (or either of our two other homes) provides visitors a combined element of peace, privacy and affordability that accommodations inside the park cannot. If you’re looking to be conveniently close to Yosemite but would prefer to not spend your vacation placed in an over-crowded development or conventional hotel then we may have JUST what you’re looking for! Perhaps Visit our home site for more photos, local, area info & a helpful summary of the seasons. ***Some unique things you'd enjoy at the Little Lodge are... ~ Comfortable, quality, name-brand beds as in ALL of our homes ~ A convenient check-in policy and leisurely 11 AM departure time ~ a Distinctive, Rustic Mountain Cabin in an Outstanding location ~ Being Close to Yosemite but far away from it all ~ Tasteful, well done furnishings and Décor ~ the Foosball table ~ A great spa, full-size and right out the back door (all your own & totally private!) ~ Playing the wonderful Piano (that was once in the locally popular pizza Place, 'Joes') ~ an Exceptionally CLEAN home that is thoroughly cleaned between each and every guest's stay ~ Great local info and suggestions for travelers to refer to when planning their stay ~ Exceptionally child-friendly house AND grounds ~ an entire playground, right out front ~ a cozy corner set aside just for kids, toy box, car track, books, chalk board and more ~ a welcoming and discerning, Pet friendly policy ~ Non-Toxic, earth-friendly environment ~ Quiet, secluded yet convenient location!!! ~ Superior attention to detail, on all fronts, Truly,.....And, all the 'special touches' our guests consistently comment on and the surprising array of uncommon items and conveniences we provide that are not found in many other vacation rentals.
