Bambecq Farmhouse is a traditional Flemish-style property, built in the early part of the 19th century. It is situated in the extensive grounds of the spectacular Château de Bambecq, a beautiful small Château in Northern France. Guests have the use of the Château grounds, which consist of fifteen acres of parkland, woodlands and a small lake. The Château is on the outskirts of Racquinghem, a large village some 10 kilometres south-east of the city of Saint-Omer and under an hour's drive from Boulogne, Calais and Dunkerque.
The grounds are a wildlife sanctuary for wild deer, waterfowl, hares, rabbits and a great variety of birds and it is for this reason that we do not allow pets.
Constructed sometime in the early 1800s, the Farmhouse offers an attractive combination of the traditional and the modern. Situated on the south-west corner of the Farm Courtyard and enjoying views over the lawns and lake, the Farmhouse consists of a large, triple-aspect living/dining room, with sofa, arm-chairs, large dining table and 6 chairs, compact modern kitchen, bathroom, separate WC, principal bedroom (double), second bedroom (twin) and a third bedroom, with a bunk bed, leading off it. It is tastefully decorated and traditionally furnished in French style with touches ‘à l’Anglais’.
The Farmhouse forms the south-west corner of a cobbled farmyard, around which are situated stables, coachouse, workshops, barns, henhouse and outbuildings, which occupy three of the four sides. The forth has a low wall and looks out onto the grounds of the Château.
Like many buildings in the area, the Farmhouse is essentially Flemish in design and is a striking building in its own right.
The south facing wall is covered by very old, scented climbing roses which reach the full height of the building. They face what was the original kitchen garden (which we hope at some point to restore) and a professionally constructed manege for schooling horses.
Farmhouse visitors can elect to self-cater and be completely self-sufficient or, as an interesting alternative (subject to availability and at additional cost), can join Château guests for dinner as Table d'Hôte guests. Dinner is 42 euros per head (three courses, including half a bottle of wine per head per adult and coffee) If you have a larger party, additional rooms are usually available in the Château.

The Bambecq Farmhouse, built in the 1800s, is set in the grounds of the Chateau de Bambecq. The grounds - parkland, lawns, extensive woodland and a small lake - cover some fifteen acres. Some of the broadleaf trees are very old and are over 100 ft tall. The grounds are a sanctury for wildlife, and there are deer, many species of birds, domestic ducks (on the lake), chickens (farmyard), several cats (& usually kittens in the summer) etc. Our manege is used by a small number of local youngsters who compete in show jumping and dressage - so you may see beautiful horses working out over the jumps during your stay.
There are lots of things to do and see locally - excellent restaraunts, museums, wartime sites, many beaches within an hour's drive, wonderful gardens, fishing, walking and cycling routes, shopping facilities. We keep a selection of brochures about local attractions....moreless

There is a Club House, restaurant, boutique and seminar room. The Saint-Omer Open, one of the most important tournaments on the European Professional circuit, is held there every year in June.

About: After an international business career, I decided I needed a new adventure - and the Chateau de Bambecq is it! I worked in the US, Russia, Siberia, across Europe. My businesses included computerising the commercial side of TV stations, importing and selling motor yachts, advising a Russian space launch and satellite constructor and many consulting assignments. Later I also wrote three books on esoteric subjects. I am a very experienced choral singer, and have held two yachting championships. I really enjoy the wonderful guests that come to both the Farmhouse and Chateau.
Why Nord-Pas-de-Calais: I fell in love with the Chateau the moment I saw it. The farmhouse had not been used for many years when I arrived, so the frst task was to completely refurbish it. It is typically Flemish (this area is actually known as 'Spanish Flanders'). Being in the grounds of the Chateau it is very secluded and relaxing. If you want to wander the grounds in your dressing gown feel free - there are no neighbours to object!
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse: As soon as you come in the front gates, you are in another world - one that is deeply connected with nature. Many trees, a selection of animals including two types of deer, rabbits, hares, hedgehogs, cats - plus our wonderful big hound Bella. Bred for cattle herding (a Beauceron), she is very friendly and adores people. We also have many birds including nesting pheasant. The grounds are a nature conservation area. It truly is a quite different reality once you are inside the grounds!
