This restored 17th Century Farmhouse features the chestnut beamed ceiling "a la Francaise", hand hewn stone walls, low fired floor tiles and antique furniture of the period. In a small hamlet in the National Park, Le Morvan, the House is very peaceful with a remarkable view of Autun & the vineyards of Burgundy far below the mountain top where it sits. It is in a tiny hamlet on a one lane road that leads you through a forest to a river & waterfall with some terrific walks right from the House.

Burgundy is known for its excellent wines & gourmet foods & restaurants. Autun is a walled city rich in Roman & Gallic history with magnificent ruins and a Roman Theatre still in use today! The outdoor markets are a treat, the shopping elegant and comparatively inexpensive, with lots of delightful small villages & vineyards to visit. The farmhouse is 1 km from the closest restaurant, 2km from the closest village & 8 km from the super market for shopping for provisions.

The National Park is so pristine that it has unusual wildlife not found elsewhere in Europe. It is a popular area for outdoor sports in France, a destination for hiking, biking, horse-back riding, fishing, swimming, rock climbing and more!

At 345 Km from Paris, it is a short drive from the airport (3- 1/2 hours), & is also easily reached by flying to Geneva (a 3 hour drive), Lyons (a 2 hour drive), or Nice. The climate is temperate since it is on the Mediterranean corridor.

The House has 2 bedrooms; one with 2 beds and each with an armoire and closet. The living room has another bed. There is a bathroom & separate W.C. as well as a laundry room. The House has a private garden with fruit trees and garden furniture.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1999

I am an artist and grew up part time in France. When I bought the property in 1999 it had dirt floors, no plumbing or electricity- in short, it was the 250 farmhouse that it is but not modernized, lived in as it was centuries ago. I have been restoring it ever since, adding modern conveniences but remaining true to the look & feel of the period. The ground floor is now fully restored with all of the modern conveniences- & I am now moving onto the the second floor where there will be 4 more bedrrooms & 2 baths. It has been a real hands on adventure, travelling over between shows to work on the house with a crew of local artisans to help.

Why the Owner Chose Autun

When I lived in France (Paris for work) I always went to this area on my vacations because of the pristine beauty of the regional park & all of the activities offered there. There are wonderful hikes to take or you can spend days on horseback wandering through the forests & sleeping in a different hamlet each night...I also love the good wines & food of the region amd Autun is a real gem of a city!

The Unique Benefits of this Farmhouse

The area is so peaceful that I am able to restore & renew myself away from the stresses of work & daily life. It is temperate with lovely light, generally beautiful weather, lots of flowers & peaceful, stunning views. The nearby town iof Autun offers wonderful museum exhibits, monuments from its period as the center of the Roman period in France, miles of vineyards with wine tasting, many, many beautiful castles to visit (try the castle circuit!), outdoor markets with fresh foods & local products for those who like to cook, and some terrific restaurants!
