As good as it gets... You will discover the best kept secret on the east coast when you plan your summer vacation at Sunset Beach, the southern most barrier island in North Carolina. Tucked away across the intracoastal waterway only minutes from great golf courses, wonderful restaurants, and just 30 minutes north of bustling Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Sunset is a treasure, reminiscent of family beaches from years gone by. There is an abundance of activities close by for every member of your family, including all types of water-sports (beach, boating, sailing, and jet-skiing), biking, fishing, shopping, and a variety of entertainment - all right there or within minutes away, for young and old alike to enjoy.
Our home is conveniently located on the oceanfront near the center of the island. We are only three blocks from the pier, small grocery store (and deli), and the few shops. You can enjoy the calming sights and sounds of the Atlantic Ocean from rockers on the front porch, as you relax and let go of those stresses you left behind at home.
The sundeck, tucked in between the wax myrtles and the oleanders is a great place to read, have lunch, or enjoy an adult beverage while you watch the sun set. Five steps away is a boardwalk (which is handicapped accessible) that leads out to the nicest family beach on the east coast - wide and flat, great for walking, biking, or building sand castles.
There is no place like home - inside ours you will find four spacious bedrooms on one level, (two with Queens, two with Doubles each). Both oceanfront bedrooms have private access out to the porch. A spacious bath connects two of the bedrooms, while the remaining two share a full and a half bath. In addition we have a queen-size sleeper sofa. (For sleeping a total of 12 including adults and children). Our hardwood floors throughout the house are warm and welcoming and translate into easy care.
The open floor plan includes a large dining area leading into the living area with full length doors and windows providing a panoramic view of the ocean. Our fully furnished kitchen includes refrigerator, Jenn-air stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher, coffeemaker, blender, toaster oven, and toaster plus much more. There are pots, pans, and utensils for all types of cooking, as well as an abundance of china, flatware, and glassware for all your needs. In a word, if it is not in our kitchen, chances are you will not need it.
In addition, we have four cable TVs, two with DVDs and two with VCRs, a stereo system with CD player, and speakers on the porch. We have a fireplace (with a built-in charcoal grill under the house), a wet bar with ice machine, ceiling fans in every room, telephone with answering machine, a new washer and dryer (with handy laundry shoot), internet access (DSL) for your computer needs, and covered parking. There is also a wonderful (newly refurbished) outdoor shower under the house, making it easy to leave all the sand from your day on the beach outside.
We only rent to families or adults (golf groups). Smoking and pets are not allowed. You will need to furnish linens, paper products, and kitchen supplies. If you are interested in renting linens during your stay, we have a reliable source. Our rates include end of week cleaning, Wi-Fi, and taxes. We have gone to great lengths to take very good care of Safe-at-Home over the years, and regularly keep it updated as needs warrant.
We have provided it with most all the creature comforts you have come to expect, but in the relaxed atmosphere of coastal North Carolina. Safe-at-Home is a warm and comfortable home at the beach, ours, which we are inviting you to share with us.

Why the Owner Chose Sunset Beach
Sunset remains an old fashioned family beach, tucked away from the noise and traffic but close enough to get there in minutes. Loads of excellent restaurants, golf courses, and shopping are nearby but the beach is secluded, wide, and wonderful.

Safe-at-Home was purchased and completely renovated in 1988. Our family shares ownership and we have worked together over the years to make sure the house was maintained at the highest level both inside and out. 4 years ago we chose to manage the summer rentals on our own through VRBO. Some of our renters have been our guests for 20 plus years.

What a great week. Our family spent a week in June at Safe-at-Home and loved it. The home is kept immaculately. It's well stocked with all of the necessities and more, and the proximity to the pier (and an ice cream cone!) is wonderful. Thank you!
