  Have stayed at this cabin twice. Owners have always been available if needed. If you want to get away and enjoy the Cherokee area, this is a great place to stay. My kids enjoyed staying here also. Will definately stay here again.

  I want to start off by saying that my wife Lisa and I have stayed at Pates Cabin every year in October since we were married in Maggie Valley October 2005. We spent our Honeymoon in Maggie Valley and it was perfect all the way around from the moment my wife opend the door to the Cabin and found flowers there that the owner helped me with there waiting for her, to spending countless hours in front of the wood burning fireplace to a romantic hot tub looking up at the stars. The owner has always gone out of her way to make sure that every trip is as special as the first one we had there. It's a perfect location close to the Blue Ridge Parkway 5 minutes at best, or into Maggie only 10 minutes down the road. Pates is always clean and looks as good as the it did 5 years ago when we first stayed there.

  Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

  Myself, Wife and a friend plus my lil doggie stayed a week last year in August 2010 We had a great time, the cabin was perfect, we used the spa a few times and spent most of the time on the porch. The cabin was bright and very clean, couldn't ask for anything better. I would recommend this cabin to my friends, it's close enough to town and far enough to be secluded. We had a great time at Pates Cabin and everything the owner promised was delivered. We had NO problems.

  I planned a special get away for me and my girlfriend. I didn't tell her where we were going all I said was "get in the car and lets ride I got a surprise for you" and after the long drive we finally arrived at the cutest cabin ever. There was snow still on the ground and the view was spectacular. The cabin had a nice clean smell and that's a biggie for me. Later on that night we went into town and got some dinner. After dinner it was time to hit the hot tub and let me tell you it was the nicest hot tub I ever been in. The next night was the perfect time to pop the BIG question. We went walking along the fence line looking at the stars and then I knelt to the ground and asked her to marry me and to my surprise she said yes. So to all you hopeless romantics like myself ,this is the perfect place for you to come to. My wife and I plan on coming back next year for our honeymoon. I just really want to say thank you for the best week of my life.

  Horrible experience. Had to buy mice traps so be careful renting from here. Also because the electric bill was higher than what she expects she refuses to refund the deposit. Need I say more....

  Owner response: What this person fails to tell you is, she signed a contract explaining everything she is writing about. At no time while she was in our cabin did I receive a phone call nor did any of my maintence people get a call from her complaining about anything. I even called her to let her know how bad the weather was up there before she arrived and she said, she wasn't concerned, she had people from New York coming in that knew how to drive in the snow. I'm not sure why she is complaining about this after signing a contract with us. You can never please everyone and we do our best to do that. This is a great cabin for peace and quiet and tranquility for everyone to enjoy!!!!

• Wonderful getaway!

  We were there for the month of September and it is a vacation we will always remember...the quiet and serenity were just what we were looking for , with "civilization" only a short drive away. Maggie Valley was just down the road and Waynesville (charming) a very easy 20 minute drive. The hot tub was perfect and a welcome sight after a full day on the Blue Ridge Parkway and Gatlinburg. The kitchen was fully stocked (even quite a few spices) and plenty of cookware and serving pieces. We would love to re-visit this home at sometime in the future...it truly felt like "home" to us! Don't forget the local produce stands, too. We went to a couple of them right on the way to the cabin and the produce was always delicious and fresh. This whole experience was a delight and Debbie was wonderful to deal with when we needed something (which was rare!) We would definitely recommend this for a week, a month, or any time between!!

  My experience was one of total satisfaction with this house. We took our family vacation here years ago when the kids were small (4 and 6) and I still remember it as one of the most special vacations we ever took together. The house was perfect and after reading the bad review I felt the need to post this even though it was a long time ago when we were guests. :)

  Part of my deposit was not returned stating it was due to damages we caused. We contacted the local representative to report several problems upon arrival. The unreturned deposit is for one of the items we reported. We did not create any other problems.

  Owner response: The problems that are being disputed were not reported until 3 days after checking into our cabin. The chair was not broken upon her arrival because our cabins are checked upon each arrival and upon each departure. The 2 things that were broken, were broken during there stay. Her Deposit was refunded except for $50, which was more than fair since we had to replace both the chair and lamp before it could be rented out again. I think we were more than fair, we could of kept the whole amount for replacement of chair, but did not. We try our best to please everyone and of course you are not going to please everyone.
