Our stay at Tern II was wonderful; it was perfect for 3 (or 4) adult couples with their own bedroom and bathroom, a well-equipped kitchen, and incredible views from the living room and the deck. It is exactly as described.
Owner response:Thank you! We hope you will return soon to Tern II.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing.

Tern II was everything it promised - a comfortable home, beautiful views and lovely property. Loved watching the seals everyday!! And trying to capture the beautiful sunsets every evening on the camera - the views are just gorgeous! The library is everything a bibliophile could want and we even played chopsticks on the piano - LOL :) AND I even found a couple of pieces of beach glass on the beach - it was heaven! :) Also so quiet and restful....just what we needed to escape from a hectic world..... thank you so much! We hope to be back again next year if you have space :) Best wishes always, The Aguirre's, The Woodlands, Texas

I already wrote in your guestbook in your home; but ,I'm happy to write here ,too. It was my family's first trip to Maine. It was much more than we expected, and your warm, welcoming house had much to do with it. Our family made lots of great memories. The deck, grill set-up, view, sunsets, wildlife, seals, , well-stocked kitchen--all added to our sense of relaxation. The serenity was a welcomed relief from the hustle and bustle of New Jersey. Thank you for sharing your home with us. We are already looking forward to returning next August. Rosemary

A wonderful week full of kids and hikes and marking time by the tides. We all loved being here at this beautiful spot where we spent most every afternoon after going to Sand Beach or Echo Lake or doing a family friendly hike up Beech Mtn. or around Jordan Pond. In addition to exploring the water’s edge and birding from the deck, some of us made it out in the canoe each day to quietly play alongside the seals (actually they were the ones playing with us). We hope to be back again next year and each year after that! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

We have been coming to MDI for more than 35 years and honestly, we had the best experience of our lives at Tern II. The accommodations were so lovely and comfortable. We wanted for nothing. The views from the deck were wonderful, particularly watching the seals bask in the sun and play in the water every afternoon was spectacular! The cove is perfect for kayaking and we saw Ospreys, seals and hundreds of colorful starfish in the glassy, shallow waters. We had perfect weather during our stay, but if we hadn't, the great DVD, games and book collections available in the cottage would have kept us well entertained. Thank you for a very memorable and special family vacation. We'll be back!

Ah, weather…never to be counted on, particularly in New England! We couldn’t imagine a better place to spend a week in the rain, though – watching the tides & how the weather moves over the landscape, and even some mother & baby seals between the raindrops! Your movie and book selections were lifesavers, as well as the studio – the perfect place with a wonderful history – thank you for sharing it!

We had a wonderful vacation at Tern II cabin. The trips to historical Bar Harbor, the resturants that you recommended and the scenic drive thru the Arcadia Park. The lobsters from the pound at the bridge were delicious and the mussels that are available for the picking on the beach in front of the cabin and steamed with our home made sauce is something to be remembered. What a treat. We replenished the bird feeder on the deck and soon had a flock of intersting birds. A couple of squirrels entertained us as they tried in vain to get into the feeder. A bald eagle came to rest in the pine tree in front on the house, and soon left to continue his flight. Everyday we watched the seals as they climbed the rocks to sun themselves. On the rainy days we passed the time watching movies from your CD collection and also played bridge and Belote, the French card game. This was a vaction we will never forget.

Denise, We just returned from spending a glorious week at your cabin. The cabin was great with its spacious accommodations and incredible views, let alone well-stocked with everything we could possibly need. We particularly enjoyed your selection of books! And the access to natural areas was wonderful--we went kayaking and saw a bald eagle up close, a family of ospreys, seals and a porpoise. It was also convenient to be so close to Acadia. Thanks for sharing your cabin and making it possible for our large family to vacation together! Margie Patlak

This was our 6th summer renting houses in the Acadia area for two families (with five kids total, from 1 to 9-yrs-old) plus grandma. Tern II was absolutely perfect - from the great location, wonderful seals, perfect canoe launch, and comfortable house. Grandma even had her own little cabin far from the madding crowd when necessary. Owners were very conscientious and responsive. We hope to return.

Great place! We've stayed there two years in a row for one week. The location is fantastic - within biking distance of Acadia, Bar Harbor, a spectacular Nature Conservancy preserve, lobster, and more. I agree with another visitor who said the pictures don't do the place justice. It's gorgeous. Owners have been very nice as well.

There were 8 of us staying at Tern II the beginning of June. Even though those from Texas and Arizona thought the weather was a little cool, the location is fantastic. It's a quiet getaway that is close to everything.Thank you for a great place !!!!

Here is an email that I received permission to include in our guestbook. Denise Newbold, Owner of Tern II Hi Denise, The clan has all traveled back to their home places after spending a memorable week at your wonderful camp, Tern II. We found it to be the perfect setting for our reunion. Acadia provided many hours of bird watching, delicious seafood, hiking trails and interesting history. Thank you for sharing your very special place with us. Sincerely, Sandy & Phil

This is the first time we visited Mt. Desert Island....in fact, it is the first time we visited Maine. Since I researched the cabin entirely by the internet, I was a little uneasy about what we were going to find when we arrived. However, we were very pleasantly surprised. The pictures on the net don't do the cabin and the view justice. It is unbelievably beautiful. We loved watching the seals on seal rock right in front of the cabin in the middle of the cove. There was also a bald eagle's nest across the cove and we would watch the male and female take turns sitting on the nest. We brought our canoes along and took trips in the cove fishing and exploring the many islands. On one fishing trip a seal came up and stole a fish from one of our friends just as he pulled the hook out of it. On another trip, my husband and a friend had propoises swim right beside them. The cabin was so comfortable and had such warm personality and the view so spectacular that it was difficult to leave and explore the area. But, we did visit Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Bass Harbor (great lobster at Thurston's), and various other scenic pleasures. It really amazed me that although you are entirely isolated in your own private scenic cove, within 15 minutes you could be in one of the places I listed above. There was so much to do that in one week we didn't even scratch the surface. We can't wait to visit again.
