Our stay at Mariner's Cay condo was adequate. The condo is within driving distance of Folly Beach which is a beautiful stretch of beach. It was just a 15 minute ride to Charleston which was key for us. The condo itself needed a thorough cleaning and had some plumbing issues. I notified the owner of these issues of which he was unaware, but grateful for my call. Probably wouldn't stay there again with 3 small children, too cozy and moldy.Owner response: Since this review we have had many satisfied visitors and lots of positive reviews and comments about our Folly Beach place. Since the 'tub leak' of July ' 07 we have had no more, fortunately. Also at the end of the '07 summer we changed cleaning services which has been a good thing and have had no further complaints.

This is the second time my family has stayed at this condo with our four children and we have absolutely loved it. What a uniquely decorated condo with lots of amenities. The "surfing bathroom" downstairs was so much fun. The kitchen was lovely. We loved the screened in porch overlooking the water. The view was breathtaking in the early morining as I drank my coffee. My children saw lots of dolphins. The pool is right around the corner, easily within walking distance. Basketball courts and tennis courts are directly across from the condo. I ran across the bridge for a morning run and was on the island in just a few short minutes. We also enjoyed driving down to the north end of the island and walking down to see the decommissioned Morris lighthouse and then went to the south end of the island to play on the state park end on another day.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

We have two sons currently attending The Citadel. We had a last minute problem with rental we were staying in and had to find another place. The staff at Avocet were Great! The home was a good fit, view was beautiful and relaxing! Our sons and their friends enjoyed the grass area in the back, playing corn hole. Great location, great unit, the Best management company! I have already looked at renting again but it was booked! We will keep trying!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My wife and I loved this place. We are beach people but live in the mountains. This condo is not right on the beach, but is on the Folly River which is a saltwater river and the back porch and master bedroom suite look out over this beautiful tidal river. It was so much fun sitting on the back porch and pointing out to my kids the dolphin, sea birds and sail boats, even saw some people launching their sea kayaks right there in front of our unit. Needles to say, we always felt like we were seeing so much more than if we were staying right on the beach. The other great thing was when we didn't want to go do the beach thing again in the afternoon we just took the kids to the pool, a short walk from the unit. Also we played tennis a few times too and then jumped in the pool..really nice. Overall.. a totally relaxing place. Oh yea my wife really liked the condo unit's arrrangement because it is really creatively decorated with antique doors and great photos and art work... and the laundry was upstairs with the bedrooms so cloths didn't need to be hauled downstairs. We loved it ..Couldn't have been better and we will go back!!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Its good to see and hear from people who enjoy our place. We try hard to make it a place people can go to relax and refuel. AG

My family has stayed here on several occasions the last few years, mostly in the summer, but also in the off season. What a nice place. The unit looks out over the marsh and the tidal Folly River, making for great sunrises. Its fun to watch the sailboats and birds. The unit is perfect for a family with 2 or 3 kids and 2 adults. The kitchen is well stocked and the porch downstairs and the enclosed alcove in the master bedroom are great places to read and hang out. The best part about the place is there is lots to do..there is a great big pool and the tennis courts next to the pool, and the beach is not far, can bike walk or drive, we have done all three. The owners have done a great job of decorating... very cool and comfortable... not the usual outdated ratan furniture. Also, Quick trips to Charleston are easy. We have had no major problems while stying there, thats why we keep going back. Ocassionally something has come up, but we have never had a problem getting it taken care of quickly....they were always very prompt and concerned, wanting to make our stay a good one.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.
