We loved the quiet cabin, the hot tub, and the kitchen that had everything that we needed. We had a nice time reading in the area near the waterfall too. We had a nice time relaxing and reconnecting - it was our first trip away after having kids. :)

My new husband and I stayed at the Baby Bear Cottage over the weekend that we got married. The cottage itself was nice. It was quite hot that weekend (about 95 degrees) so one down side was that the A/C was only in the living area and the bedroom door doesn't stay open, so we had to wedge the rug under the door to keep it open. Two of the 3 nights we were able to sleep with the windows open and it cooled down enough that it wasn't a problem. The sound of the waterfalls into the ponds helped us sleep better too! The hot tub was great and we used it every day we were there. The ponds and the yard were beautiful and we were able to use to grounds for some awesome wedding photos. The internet was hit-and-miss, which was kind of a bummer considering there is no cell service in the area. The first night we stayed there we had a hard time parking because a large group had rented out the Papa Bear cabin that is located on the same property and they had about 8 cars in the driveway, but the people staying there were kind and assured us that we could block some of the cars in and park behind them. Overall we would look at staying at Baby Bear again, and possibly even renting out mama and papa bear for a larger family gathering!

We had a fantastic time and it was so quiet and peaceful. Just what we needed. I would recommend this place to anyone that would love to get away from the rat race.

We had a very relaxing and beautiful stay at this property. I was in town visiting family and spending time with my sweetie. The backyard pond was a really nice treat and incredibly charming, we enjoyed it immensely and we loved listening to the frogs at night from the hot tub. Everything you would possibly need is in the cabin and Rene was very easy to get a hold of when we had some trivial questions. The surrounding property is very wooded and pretty. Lucky for us, there were no other guests staying in the other cabins so we had the whole place to ourselves. I would definitely recommend staying at Baby Bear's Cottage if you are fortunate enough to visit the Nevada City area.

Owner response: We are convinced that our guests are the best in the world! It is always our goal to create a relaxing, and comfortable atmosphere for our guests, and nothing brings us more pleasure than sharing this magical place with them. We strive to continually grow both as hosts and as caretakers of the land and cabins. One day maybe we will have a tree house in the big madrone tree, and secret paths leading through the woods behind Mama Bear's Cabin. We'll keep striving.

My husband and I stayed at Baby Bears cottage for 2 nights while traveling through Gold Rush country. Although just a few minutes outside of Nevada City, it felt as if you were a world away from all the "touristy" stuff. We so enjoyed the peace and calm. Time in the hot tub was so relaxing. Our only regret is that we didn't choose to get there earlier or stay longer instead of staying in hotels for about the same price.

My husband and I stayed here in October 2009 for 2 nights. We had a great, great time. We were especially happy about the pond and the sculptures in the backyard. But the hot tub was probably the best thing of all. Cabin is extremely cute and comfortable and romantic for a couple. We will return for sure!

It rained for some of the three nights we stayed at Baby Bear's Cabin but that was fine. We hiked around the area when it wasn't raining. It was beautiful with lupin, iris and frogs. The kitchen had everything we needed. The hot tub was great on cold evenings. We had a wonderful, romantic time before my husband started his hike up the Pacific Crest Trail to Canada. Thank you Rene' and Drue for your special attention to detail, it really made a difference.

My 12-year-old daughter and I spent three wonderful days at Baby Bear's Cottage. So comfortable (including, and most importantly, the bed mattress), and can't think of anything that was missing. Loved the waterfall and koi pond, loved the private outdoor spa. Enjoyed playing the board games and perusing the various cookbooks (and other) on display. The most fantastic swimming hole in the world is at Bridgeport, about 30 minutes away -- deep water, lots of granite rocks to jump off of, underwater "caves" to swim through. I never imagined there could be such a thing as warm river water but there is! Ask Dru about closer swimming holes (only about 3 miles away). Harmony Books in town is a must-visit. Baby Bear's Cottage is going to become an annual getaway destination for my daughter and me. It's a miraculous place!

Thank you For such a wonderful cabin to come escape to. Loved the log walls and all the attention to detail. The cabin had everything we needed. The grounds were amazing and location so close to our favorite spot on the Yuba River. Hope to be back again this summer.

Dear Rene and Drue, What a charming setting, peaceful and perfect for a retreat, with all the amenities I could want and more! There was even room to roll out my yoga mat. I met the women who were in Papa Bear's and we agreed this is a perfect place for a yoga retreat! Many bessings on you and your lovely part of the planet!

                              Owner info

                              Year Purchased: 2000

About the owner: Rene had always wanted a log home, ever since she was a child. When we found this property in 2000, we knew it was where we wanted to live and continue raising our son. We have three cabins on the property, all of which are now vacation rentals: Papa Bear's Lodge, Mama Bear's Cabin and Baby Bear's Cottage. We lived in the main lodge for a umber of years until our son as grown and on his own. Now we live in town next to Rene's pottery studio. You will see some of her pots in the cabins. We love our guests who are all fantastic and take wonderful care when renting our cabins.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Even though we are only 3 mles from the center of town, you feel like you are out in the woods. In the sumer time, the children's camp next door emits founds of laughter and activity. Some of our renters have even taken a ride on the zip line which is high up in the tree tops. In the fall winter and spring is the quiet time. The cabins are decorated with art of all kinds, and cozy comfortable furniture. The setting in the open woods is very special, and we have loved watching the generations of dear, squirrel and turkey families wander through. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we have!
