Think Twice Before Renting This Property!!

We stayed at this beach house for 2 weeks. Though the location on the beach was fantastic, the house itself was very dirty. Everything needs paint, fixing, and cleaning. Cobwebs are found everywhere, the screens are torn and very dirty. I was afraid to breath in. If something breaks, be prepared to fix it yourself. We called the owners to come and look at things but were given the brushoff. Vent covers are falling off in the bathroom, the gas grill was broken. It was replaced by the son who left us with no propane gas. We had to scour the town to find a place where they sell it. The blinds in the dining area would fall at odd times. Dust and dirt could be seen on the walls and you could write your name on the furniture. The washer/dryer were outside and the tops were so dirty we had to put plastic bags on the tops to as not to get our "dirty" clothes worse. The deck is ugly, in much need of power-washing and paint. The toaster was so dirty no one wanted to put a piece of toast in it. The coffee pot had to be scoured twice before using. I could go on but I think that is enough. I wanted to leave after 2 days but we had no where to go. I would NEVER recommend this property to anyone. The view from the deck was the only saving grace to this house. And that is because nature can never mess up.

Owner response:This reservation was made August 2010 and since then the house was booked solid. We purposely refused bookings for April and May 2011 to schedule repairs and renovations upon their departure. The barbecue grill was used by the previous guests with no complaints but we decided to purchase a new one and had it delivered. If we knew that the propane tank was empty we would have had it refilled at the time but they agreed to take care of it so we reimbursed them for it. The ceiling fan in the kitchen works and the house doesn't come with a coffee grinder and the bed post is broken but has no affect on the bed itself. As for the screens it has been replaced and the entire inside of the house painted. The yard and sprinkler system had a complete facelift with a new fence and gate installed. The sliding doors are on order and the deck will be sanded and stained after the doors are installed. We feel very sorry that they were not satisfied.

We spent a week at this home 7/28/10 – 8/4/10 and the location is great! However the property listing did not accurately reflect the current condition of the house. It is in dire need of repairs/renovation, could use updated amenities like linens and kitchenware, and the grounds need maintenance. For example; only 1 of the 5 sliding glass doors opened and the one that worked was extremely difficult to operate and lock, windows were difficult to open/screens were damaged, the dining room ceiling fan did not work, DVD player was not operational, and bed frame in the master bedroom was broken. We also found the home was not very clean upon our arrival and there was no coffee bean grinder. Fortunately the owner agreed to refund the cleaning fee. However we did have to call for our security deposit/refund to be returned after we realized it was 10 days overdue. With some repair, a more accurate description of the property, and a prompt return of the deposit, no one would have been disappointed.
