Fantastic House

We just returned from a wonderful week at Hibiscus Haven, and are already missing it. I fell in love with this house the first time I saw the pictures, and after looking through ALL the other Roatan listings, I kept finding myself coming back to Hibiscus Haven. I dreamt for weeks of enjoying the beautiful blue water from the private dock, and secretly prayed that the pictures weren't better than the real thing. I had NOTHING to worry about. This house is spectacular, and the pictures don't do it justice. The private dock is just a few steps down to the waters edge. The mangrove island really does make a PERFECT, calm place for swimming and kayaking (kayaks provided). Not one day went by that we didn't spend at least a few hours here at the dock. And, when I say private, I mean private. There are neighbors to each side, but we didn't see them one single time. It's like we had an entire ocean to ourselves. The house is so cute. It is kept VERY clean by Sindy, one half of a husban/wife caretaking team. The house sits up on the hill with windows ALL around, so the breeze filled the house constantly. We never had to use the air conditioners. In fact, it got just a tad chilly a couple of times at night (well, for some of us in our party....others thought we were crazy). There are fans, and ceiling fans to help circulate the air if the breeze isn't blowing. The house is well equipped with a big screen (with tons of dvd's), and a stereo, plus all the cooking utensils you need. Also, something that is nice, is that there is a HUGE assortment of spices, so you won't need to buy any. Bottled water is provided as well. Pichi, the second half of the husban/wife caretaker team, took very good care of us. He took us grocery shopping the first day, and even took us to West Bay for the best snorkeling EVER! Anything we needed, Pichi (and/or Sindy) got it for us. He even ordered pizza for us when we found out our rental car had not headlights and we were stranded at the house for the night. All in all, this is one fabulous house. You will not be disappointed. The location is great. 40 minutes from West End/West Bay, 40 minutes from Oakridge/Jonesville, and close to Coxen Hole and French Harbour (about 10 minutes each direction). Thank you Kevin and Darlene for sharing your little piece of heaven with us. Hopefully we will have a chance to come back.

My husband and I do not profess to be travel experts, but we have travelled enough to know when we have found a good thing. Hibiscus Haven is simply an awesome place to rest, relax, and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. In addition, Pichi and Sindi are an amazingly kind couple who live on the property, and they go that extra mile to make your stay pleasant at the house. The house met the criteria of a decent roof over our heads, a fully equipped kitchen, 2 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a laundry room, a huge living room with a TV and DVDs, a table to eat on, and 2 decks to hang out on. Hibiscus Haven offers a unique perspective to vacationing, with its large yard, a multitude of plant life, birds, and of course – the sea critters! Also enjoyable was the 2 tier dock that we spent many days/afternoons on, and a very clear canal to swim, snorkel, fish and kayak in. We were clients of Barefoot Divers, who are just 5 minutes down the road. Usually small groups went out, and this dive outfit went the extra mile for all their divers every single time. Counting 15 dives with them, plus snorkelling, and very personable staff, made for an awesome experience. Driving in Roatan was easy, and we literally went from one end of the island to the other. There are many places to explore, and we had no concern regarding safety. The truck that can be rented with the house is a bonus, and cuts down on the cost of renting a vehicle from an agency. Groceries were obtained easily at the stores in Coxen Hole, or in French harbour. Many times we bought fruit off the trucks in French Harbor or the West End, and there is a place to buy whole fish in Coxen Hole. Dining out was kept to a minimum, but when we did go out, there was no problem finding our “flavor of the day”. There are places to eat from one end of the island to the other. We even ate at roadside stands, and never had any troubles. Baleadas, rice & beans, and roasted corn with salt & lime became our adopted staple. There are banks and ATMS on the island, and exchanging money was no problem. So far, Roatan manages to maintain its rustic island charm, and the people are friendly, and willing to help out. Everywhere we went, someone always said hello or was willing to have a chat. Simply put, we loved Roatan so much, that we are returning for another 4 weeks of island flavor. Kudos to Kevin and Darlene – they have found a piece of heaven, and they are willing to share their treasure. Respect.
