Where to start? So very glad we made this choice of places to be.The whole experience was fantastic! No complaints at all! My husband and I stayed for 10 nights. Far away from the crazieness of Waikiki, this quiet residential neighborhood is just what we wanted. The apartment is very clean, access is private, it has everything you need. Beach access is a block away and they provide towels and toys for the beach. Kathy and Val are super people! They gave great recommendations for places to go and good restaraunts, and where to avoid. They give very good driving directions, too. They are beyond accommodating! We had plenty of privacy, but knew that they were nearby if we had questions or needed ANYthing. I've never had such a pleasant experience. The pictures of the rental are accurate, the description is accurate. If anything, it's even sweeter in person! It is a well mantained property, Kathy and Val really care about providing a great place for visitors. I would absolutly recommend this place to couples, couples with children, all my friends and relatives..anyone who can appreciate the quiet neighborhood and great beach. There are plenty of things to do nearby, you can walk to local shops and restaraunts, it takes a few days to get around to everything! Driving is easy in the area. Kathy & Val, you feel like friends, we were so glad to meet you. It was wonderful talking to each and both of you. You made our stay feel like home. Val, thanks for drying the laundry, I felt so indulged! Kathy & Val, your generosity is a sweetness in the world. You are both awesome! Mahalo and Aloha xoxo
Owner response:Awe Annie and Mike, Thank you SO MUCH for such a RAVING review. We REALLY appreciate your kind words about the 2 of us. We are happy that your first stay in a vacation rental was a good experience. Believe me some of our stays in vacation rentals were NOT so pleasant. From our different experiences we gathered all kinds of information of what would help make our guests feel at home. It was such a pleasure hosting the 2 of you during your stay here to attend your daughter's wedding. We enjoyed the time we spent chatting with you folks about life in Kansas and the different experiences you shared with Val and I. We are happy that you were comfortable in our little piece of paradise we call home. We hope to see you folks in the future sometime and will welcome you with open arms. With Much Aloha, Your friends, Kathy and Val

Kathy and Val thought of EVERYTHING when putting together the House of Sweet Dreams. My husband, 10 month old, and I recently stayed for a week. It had everything we needed. Highlights for me and my baby were the crib, beach toys, a food chopper that allowed me to make some home made food for my munchkin and of course the red wagon! The home was sparkling clean (cleaner than my house) so I let my baby crawl around freely! K & V were super duper accommodating when my hubby suffered a tiny accident out at sea! They went above and beyond to make sure that we were all okay. This was a fantastic intro to Hawaii and intro to vacation rental. Stay here if you have babies! You won't be disappointed. PROMISE!
Owner response:Aloha Grecya, Israel, and Lil' Iyari, Thank you for such a FANTASTIC review. We REALLY appreciate your more than positive comments. Val and I truly enjoy providing a comfortable place for our guests and try HARD to think of everything that they would need on their vacation here in the islands. We look forward to seeing you folks again in the near future and by that time Iyari will be running all over. With Much Aloha, Kathy & Val XO

Our first trip to Oahu and had no idea what to expect, what an awesome experience. Kathy & Val were awesome, the perfect hosts. Gave us our privacy, but still friendly and told us places to go eat and places to see. The place is secluded, but yet very close to the beach. Definitely will be back again, not soon enough I am afraid.
Owner response:Aloha Sara and Buz, Thank you for such a GREAT review. We enjoyed hosting you folks during your VERY busy stay here for the week. It sounded like all the wedding festivities were fun to attend. Hurry back we would LOVE to see you folks again. With Much Aloha, Kathy & Val

We loved staying at Kathy and Val's "house of sweet dreams". Perfect for 2 people, 1 block from the most beautiful (not crowded) beach. There are a few shopping centers with a variety of really good restaurants (try Cinnamon's, Formaggio's and aloha salads) which are really close to their house. Kathy and Val were the best hosts, very friendly and laid back. I would definitely recommend at least a night in Kailua. We also stayed in Waikiki and the North Shore -- Kailua was our favorite part of the island! Thank you Kathy and Val!
Owner response:Aloha Dorrie and Sean, Thank you for submitting a review online of your stay @ "The House of Sweet Dreams". It was a pleasure hosting you and Sean for the night. A short stay but as you have stated well worth it. You have put an ear to ear smile on our faces knowing that you enjoyed our little piece that we call paradise -- Kailua. We sure hope that we will meet up again someday and spread our "Aloha Spirit" for a longer stay the next time around. A Hui Hou (until we meet again), Aloha, Kathy and Val

Aloha to Kathy and Val. We were the disaster visitors from Illinois. Seems like our whole trip was under a shadow. But, Thanks to Kathy and Val and Hawaiian hospitality our trip was saved. We started the trip leaving a seriously ill Mother back home and with alot of hesistant feelings on whether we should proceed with the trip since it was a preplanned gift from our sons. Val met us with open arms and alot of compassion. Then after a calamity with water pipes, Kathy and Val did everything in their power to make the rest of our vacay a spectacular trip while making neccesary repairs. I can't say enough good about these two property owners. They went above and beyond in taking care of us. They really stepped up to the plate and left nothing undone. No doubt, It was a clean, well supplied cottage managed by two of the kindest people on God's green earth. It is true, you can tell a person's true character when a problem erupts. Much Love and I wish we could come back and experience the trip again. P.S. I lost my Mom on April 22.
Owner response:Aloha Les and Bobbie, I must have missed this review somehow. Thank you SO MUCH for your review. Believe me we wish that we can turn back the hands of time and start your vacation all over. WHAT A DISASTROUS TIME having our main water line burst in the rental during your stay. Thank God the water stayed contained within the slab and did not have any damage to your personal items. Words are so inadequate to explain how horrible we felt with this disaster. Thank you for your understanding. Bobbie we are so sorry for the loss of your precious momma on April 22, 2011. May all the memories of your relationship forever stay near to your heart. For it is these memories that will help you through your time of grieving. Val and I speak from experience on this one as we have both lost our mothers' as well a few years back. If you are ever out this way again we would love to host you folks. And rest assured our pipes are rerouted above the slab and will never be a problem again. With Much Love and Aloha, Kathy and Val

Thank you for everything. Our first visit to Kailua became a great days for Kathy and Val. The big red wagon was nice to go to the beach with kids. They liked the meny beach toys. We spent much time at the beautiful beach. It is lik e a private beach. I can see the blue green ocean and white sand when I close my eyes even now. Thank you for returning the remote control for us and doing laundry...You helped us a lot. We hope we can visit the greate house of sweet dreams again. If you have chance to come to Japan, please let us know!!

My husband and I had an absolutely fabulous time in Kailua, and Kathy and Val's beautiful apartment was a big part of that! They could not have been more warm, welcoming and helpful - thought of everything to make our stay there great - from aloe for sunburns, to snorkels and boogie boards, to yummy Kona coffee, to sweet-smelling Bath and Body Works products in the bathroom. :-) And they struck the perfect balance between being attentive to our needs but giving us tons of privacy. The apartment was the perfect size for us, spotlessly clean, and about a block from gorgeous Kailua Beach - and I don't mean the Kailua Beach Park which seemed to get crowded at times. The area of the beach you access from the apartment is so much better - it has softer sand and very few people there. We had a great time grilling in the yard - and even got a recommendation from our hosts for marinated meat to grill that was so tasty. The shower was spacious and had great water pressure - wireless Internet worked great - street was quiet with very little traffic - we literally have NO COMPLAINTS whatsoever - ok just one - the trip should have been much longer!! :-) When (not if) we find our way back to Oahu, we'll certainly stay in Kailua and would consider ourselves lucky to stay with Kathy and Val again. Many thanks and much love - Melissa & Aaron

My wife, 2 year old son, and I all stayed at the quiet House of Sweet Dreams and had a great time. The rental had everything we needed. They even provided a crib and had toys readily available for use on the beach which is literally a 1-2 min easy walk. The town of Kailua is not far either and has tons of places to eat and shop. Was great for our family but would be great for a couple as well. Thanks Kathy and Val for making our stay so special.

Big thank you to Aunty Val and Kathy. We loved the adorable unit - perfect size, full kitchen, laundry accessiblity, AWESOME shower!!!!, suntan lotion, condiments/honey/tea/coffee, jogging stroller, crib, Hawaiian-style dinner, it was all perfect! Our own little private yard was perfect for sunbathing and enjoying breakfast. You both put so much effort and love into making our first vacation with our little one so memorable and wonderful. We'll see you again in February!

August 28 - September 7, 2009 Aloha Kathy and Val, I just wanted to let you know that I had a wonderful time in Kailua and was very pleased with the House of Sweet Dreams! The location was perfect -- within walking distance to everything. This studio was exceptionally clean and very comfortable. When you say just pack your clothes, you weren't kidding. I had everything I could possibly need. After exploring the entire island of Oahu, I can definitely say that Kailua Beach and Lanikai are by far the most beautiful. These beaches are great for snorkeling, windsurfing, kayaking, or just relaxing without the crowds. Thank you for your generous hospitality and for providing this lovely rental at such an affordable price. Mahalo, Connie Holder Kernersville, NC

Aloha Kathy and Val!! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay for our first visit to our former and future home. You made it feel very ohana with all of the local Hawaiian touches. The beach toys and inflatable boat for Claire were a great start...along with the cookies. The red wagon was great for short trip to beach across street. Everything was as advertised. And where else can you find someone to do laundry...thanks Val. Finally, much mahalo for returning the forgotten item after we left!! Hope to visit again when we return home...Brandon, Sarah & Claire

Aloha Kathy & Val! Thank you for such wonderful service. I wanted to let you know that your quick and friendly service made the difference when deciding which rental I wanted to go with. After our stay at your "House of Sweet Dreams" I realized I made the right choice. Kristy was impressed with the accomodations and the value of the unit and she liked the small touches here and there. Coming from a 'local' it was nice to get away. It was great to take Kristy around Kailua near Kailua and Lanikai Beaches (one of the best beaches in the nation!) and to one of my favorite spot at Lanikai Bunkers Hike. Thank you for spreading the Aloha! Mahalo nui loa, Donna (Honolulu) Kristy (Washington)

We recently held a family gathering where I was responsible for booking 4 different cottage/units for various family members. The unit was very clean and provided a number of very nice amenities. However we were very disappointed in the size. The VRBO add indicates the unit is a "1 bedroom" unit when in fact it is only a studio unit. We booked this particular unit for a couple and their adult son thinking the son would have a floor futon available in the living room area and the couple a separate bedroom. The one room living/bedroom had just enough room to place the futon at the foot of the bed. Now that I have seen the unit the pictures on the website are clear, however it was not noticable to any of us before. The other 3 units we rented all had the number of "separate" bedrooms the adds claimed and the prices were about the same. The owners of this property should change their add and list it as a studio unit.
Owner response:Aloha Bob, I am VERY sorry you were disappointed in our accommodations. This is the 1st negative comment that we have received but am including it in our guest book because it is constructive criticism. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The pictures on our website are "EXACTLY" how the unit appears. We do consider our unit a 1 "BIG" bedroom. A studio is considered to be where the bedroom and kitchen area are contained in 1 room -- our unit is separarated by a doorway. Thanks again for your comments. Aloha, Kathy and Val P.S. I just wanted to add the positive comments the actual guests that occupied this unit left in our guestbook. Cute and cozy. Great beach access. Super functional place. Very nice to see how the locals live. Nice and quiet and private. Your attention to detail made the stay that much nicer. I am glad that we missed the 3 weeks of rain. I felt nurtured by your attentiveness, plentiful towels, clean studio, quiet (except for wind, rain, and bird calls, all of which I loved), nearby beach, full moon. Mahalo with Love, Barbara As always our stay here was extra special... sharing the 1st birthday luau of your friends baby boy, breakfasts at Cinnamon's ... the list goes on and on. Kathy and Val, Thank you for everything. We had a great time and Kailua Beach was our favaorite. The chairs, wagon, snorkels, and other beach items made it even more enjoyable. Thank you also for the body wash and lotion from Hawaii these additive touches were great. You have a great place -- the time went way too fast !! Take Care.
