I really enjoyed my stay at Hale Honu. Kepi and Jim were great and I can easily recommend them to anyone. There place is off the beaten track and quiet, but still very close to Hilo. I will definitely be staying there again the next time I visit the Hilo side of the Big Island.

Such a beautiful property! My boyfriend and I spent two nights there on our vacation in February. The house had so much charm. Having a kitchen while on vacation was also great. Kepi was such a helpful host. She stopped by every morning to see how we were doing and to hear about our plans for the day. She often gave us ideas and hints on things to do and see. I would recommend staying here when you are visiting the Hilo side of the Big Island.

This place is fantastic! Jim and Kepi are very special people who not only made our stay here wonderful, they also went out of their way to help ease our transition to the Big Island from the Mainland (we had just moved here from California, and looking back, their guidance was crucial during the first few weeks we were here). The facility itself is clean, comfortable, and very relaxing. Jim and Kepi have made this place unique with some personal touches of art and landscaping; the photos don't do it justice. Everything works well, including the high speed internet, the cable t.v., etc. It is located within 15 minutes of just about everything in Hilo! It is also one of the best deals you will find. Don't wait too long to book, though, because they tend to be fully booked. Once you have stayed there, you will understand why. I think that most of their guests are probably return patrons. Now that we live on the Big Island, this is where we will advise our out-of-town guests to stay.

My fiancé and I stayed here from December 28th- January 2nd. We had a blast on this island! Kepi was very helpful when booking this property and once we arrived she was continued with a nice warm welcome. She told us about several nice places to visit while we were on the island. We have never seen that many green sea turtles before; thanks for the recommendation, Carlsmith beach park had 3 massive green sea turtles! The condo was fully stocked and clean. We would stay here again, nice place and a very nice owner. Thanks Kepi! FYI, if you have not been to the green sand beach, check it out… it was one of our favorites! Make sure to take the off road ride from the locals, it was a fun experience!

Being in the Hilo area was the highlight of our trip! This peaceful, tranquil place was truly a home away from home! The grounds are full of botanical wonders and creativity that is simply beyond what we expected. The rentals are very clean, comfortable, offer everything you need, and are decorated in true island fashion. The owners are delightful people and we so enjoyed meeting them and a few of thier friends. We WILL be back! We will stay at the "Turtle House" again! Mahalo Jim and Kepi for making our trip memorable!

My husband and I went to Hilo for one last vacation before I either stat dialysis or have a transplant. Could not have found a better place to stay, location is perfect quiet and peaceful at the same time close to every thing we wanted to do. The Hosts Kepi and Jim could not be any nicer, so accommodating and help full with ideas and tips of what to do. We will be back when my health permits and enjoy another great time.

Considering the price, this was a very good deal. My husband and I stayed for a couple nights last week on our honeymoon. We took the studio and found it to be clean, comfortable and well stocked with the necessities (towels, wash cloths, toilet paper, magazines, dvds.) However it is very easy to hear the other guests between the walls. Therefore maybe it wasn't the best choice for a honeymoon stay. Also the shower is quite small. Other than that though it was a good deal and we enjoyed listening to the coqui frogs at night.

It was like living in the jungle but with all the comforts of home. As much as this place with the beautiful plant life all around you, the rain every night, the out of town location, nicely furnished and decorated house and great parking, I have to say the owners that live on site where the best part. Jim and Kepi are incredible. These are two of the nicest people you will ever meet. This place may be the best place we ever stayed. I highly recommend staying here, and don’t have one bad thing to say about it. We stayed for a week and were sad to leave. Thank you guys for making our vacation so great.

My husband and I decided to go to the Big Island to see my father. We were going to stay at a hotel seeing as it was also our anniversary weekend, but we wanted to see Hawaii more from a locals angle than from a tourist. Fortunately we stumbled upon the perfect vacationing spot. We stayed in the 2 bedroom condo which was filled with hawaiian decore and Aloha Spirit. It felt like a true home away from home. The owners are so helpful and kind. The property has beautiful plants all through out and the sounds of the tropical wildlife was harmonic. It is a great rental for the price and perfect for families or couples who would like a glimps of true Hawaii. It was perfectly located for us as we wished to see as much of the Island as we could during the short time we were there. Although the property had such a nice feel to it, we decided not to go anywhere and just soak it in. I plan on staying there everytime we go back.

The listing perfectly describes the apartment and its surroundings. My husband and I were immediately pleased with the gardens. There are so many lovely flowers. ferns, and trees! We made our way up the stairs to find a lovely welcoming great room with high ceilings, comfortable clean furnishings, lovely paintings and carvings, and a modern kitchen with beautiful countertops. The Polynesian decor is just right, not "sterile" or standard, but artsy, warm, and relaxed making you feel refreshed as soon as you go through the door! The apartment is very clean. Jim and Kepi and the other guests were delightful. I would definately recommend a stay here. I chose it because I had a hard time finding a place that allowed a two night stay, was reasonably priced, with a reasonable cleaning fee that was close to the Kapoho Tide Pools, the Volcano, and Hilo. Wonderful place with wonderful people! Thanks Jim and Kepi!

We had a great time, and it was great value. It is really in the country, with frogs, roosters, and birds to keep you company. The place was beautiful. If you have a problem with low-flow shower, you may want to think twice. Otherwise, fantastic setting, convenient to Hilo and points south. Was great for the two of us and our 5–year old, but could have slept more in the 2-bedroom apartment.

We had the most enjoyable experience in our life during our stay here. The owners are the most lovable people one could ever want to meet. The care of the property is 7 Star. If you are visiting the the Big Island this is a must stay destination. Warm, private, and peaceful. If you are in search of the REAL Hawaii, then here you can find it. Not only did we hate to depart, the owners became life long friends that my wife and I will cherish forever. Thank you Jim & Kepi for giving us the memories of a lifetime.

Kepi personally came to meet us to make sure we had no problems and were well settled ...... while admiring the paintings in the house I realized they had all been made by Kepi too ..... the outside garden and pond have also been kept very nicely .... given a chance I would definitely come here to stay again :)

We are a couple in our late 20s and found this place perfect for our vacation needs. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at Jim and Kepi's 1 BR guesthome. The pictures really don't do the place any justice. It was nice seeing all the artwork and painting that they did all over the house. You can tell a lot of care and pride went into this place. Renting from them I received friendly, professional, and prompt service. Wonderful people. Glad to have had the privilege to stay on their property. Will definitely be back and will recommend it to others. Thank you Jim and Kepi!!!

My entire family --7 in all -- stayed in Jim and Kepi's 2 bed/1bath for 6 nights. Jim and Kepi were so hospitable and their place was so clean and neat, we felt welcomed and comfortable. The location was perfect for us too. 8 miles from Hilo and 24 miles from Vocational Park, we went often and on to both places to explore. Jim and Kepi were so nice to lend us boogie boards for my nephews and open up the third bed room and another bathroom for free when the room became available. So for last three nights, our 7 members were spread out in three bed room, even more comfortable in 2 bathroom. We also appreciated reasonably price and sound business practices. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience and we highly recommend your place among our friends.

Aloha! We all agree we've never felt so at home staying anywhere, we felt like Jim & Kepi were our family! The first impression was that the owner's really loved & took a lot of pride of their vacation rental. All of the artwork inside & outside is beautiful, colorful & amazing! There was so much creative energy radiating from the gardens & artwork, that I just felt energized the whole time I was there! Jim & Kepi were fun, amazing hosts who helped us figure out where to go, the names of things & how to say them in Hawaiian & some really good deals the area! We loved the very neat, clean, tropical rooms w/many extras like coffee, tea, lotion, etc. which was a nice surprise. Also a great location! We enjoyed the warm ponds, snorkeling @ Richardson's Beach in Hilo, Hilo & Maku'u Farmer's Markets & downtown Hilo & Pahoa. We are very grateful for getting such a great rental for such a reasonable rate, & then having a priceless stay @ Honu Hele 3 in Hawai'i! Mahalo Jim & Kepi!

Tropical Paradise lives up to its name. When you drive into this vacation rental property you are surrounded with the Aloha Spirit. I have never felt so welcomed and comfortable on a 2 week vacation with my 3 teenage kids as what we experienced here. Not only are you in a tropical jungle surrounded by plants, flowers, fragrance and day gecko's but Jim and Kepi are the MOST AMAZING HOST! I looked forward to morning coffee and taking stories with them. They know the Island and gave direction as to the most amazing must see and do spots. We stayed in the Honu Hale House which was awesome! I loved the colors and art work by Kepi. This VRBO has everything you need. Spacious living quarters, comfy bedrooms, Lanai surrounded with palms and flowers, a cooler to pack for your day trips, complete kitchen to prepare meals, games and movies for your down time. Conveniently located to the Islands many attractions and beaches. When I look back at the pictures of their property I wish I were still there! The colors are vibrant and the aroma of the trumpet plant at night um, fall asleep to the sound of rain or listen to the koke frogs. If star gazing is your thing you can almost reach out and grab them too. Mahalo for the most amazing time Jim and Kepi Ahui Hou Terri and Kids

My wife and I stayed over Christmas and the new year, and we couldn't have been more pleased. Jim and Kepi are warm, fantastic hosts and their comfortable, lush hideaway will always be memorable. We reserved the the cozy, artistic Lava Apartment and were lulled to sleep at night by rain showers and woken in the morning by birds and scurrying geckos. Our hosts were more than eager to share their intimate knowledge of the island and recommend numerous, worthwhile sites and activities during our stay. Be sure to visit Champaign Pond in lower Puna - a volcanically-heated natural pond at the seashore that easily became our favorite place to relax after a long day of hiking. Swimming at Pe'Pe Falls just outside Hilo was also fantastic (and maybe not legal, but it was New Year's Day!), and the volcano was of course, amazing. We would recommend Honu Hale to anyone and everyone visiting the green and beautiful east coast of the Big Island. Jim and Kepi's genuine friendliness and colorful storytelling will undoubtedly be warmly remembered. We'll be staying again.

We stayed with Jim & Kepi 2 times during visits to the Big Island & they are the best hosts on the island. They take time to "talk story", even when they are busy renovating & making Honu Hale even more beautiful. They know where all the good spots for special times are on the island. We have stayed in dozens of VRBO's throughout all the islands; Jim & Kepi are the friendliest hosts in Hawaii. Enjoy your Kona coffee from any of the spacious lanais & be wrapped up in the sweet smells of the jungle that surround their place. Bananas & white pineapple wait for you to pick & enjoy. A few miles from the Makuu Farmers Market, up the hill to the volcano, down the street from the lava flow, & just minutes from the ocean. So if you like nice people, beautiful surroundings, & ever changing scenery, give Jim & Kepi a call. Miss you guys!!
