Rent a true island home in a lush, private setting. This is the private tropical getaway of an author and food writer. So it's our home, not a usual rental. If Twin Palms is not available, be sure to inquire about Twin Palms Cottage, also on the property.
Forget those other places with sparse, cheap furnishings. We've transformed our island bungalow and cottage into an exotic, yet comfortable place decorated in British Colonial fashion with Oriental rugs, leather couches, imported wicker and rattan furniture, dark hardwoods and artwork we have purchased on our trips around the world. We take care of the details, so you'll have everything you need. On your arrival, our wonderful manager, Irene, will leave you a welcome basket of treats.
You'll be surrounded by other private homes, not other condos or holiday makers. It's peaceful and private, yet a two-minute walk to the beach, and right on one of the free trolley's stops, so it's easy to get everywhere.
Since one of the owners is a chef and food writer, the kitchen is especially well equipped, with quality cookware, newer appliances and unusual bamboo countertops, and you're free to use any spices, oils, condiments etc. that you find in the fridge or cupboard. The French doors in the dining room open to a big deck with a BBQ and outside dining in a lush tropical garden.
Need to do some work? There's the "Hemingway Office," which looks onto the lush garden and palm trees, outfitted with a hi-speed net connection/wi-fi. You'll find lots of books, including cookbooks, plus a full library of movies and games.
The house has a unique two master suite layout that can be converted into two bedrooms, making it idea for two couples sharing a holiday home, or for families with small children. The two-room "Africa" suite has its own private patio; it can be split into two bedrooms. The master suite has a king bed and ensuite bathroom. Both have high-quality beds outfitted with down duvets and 400+ thread count sheets and TVs with DVD/CD players.
We are fully set up to accommodate children, with a high chair, stroller, folding crib, toys for inside play as well as kid's beach gear and children's videos/DVDs. We'll even have a supply of kids sunblock and diapers when you arrive.
So why wait? A white sand beach and the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico are just a short walk (200 yards/meters) to the west while the watery playground of the inland waterway is just 100 yards/meters to the east. There is a private boat dock for your use a short distance away if you want to rent a boat or kayaks or bring your own. Major attractions, including Disney World and Orlando theme parks, are within a two-hour drive. There is a stop for the island's free trolley just steps outside the door. The entire property is ground level for those with mobility concerns.

(The two are completely separate, but together can accommmodate up to 10 guests at a time.) As this is a special place, we require a 14-day minimum stay. Owner's Profile
Owner Description
One of the owners is a writer who grew up on Anna Maria Island. She was also lucky to marry a guy who studied architecture and remodels places as both a hobby and business, so we're continually upgrading the house. The home is managed by her mother, who has made the island her home for more than 30 years. We spend about six months on the island each year. This is not a "rental" house; it's our home that we happen to rent when we're not here as we have another house in a different state. We believe the island is a special place, and we love to share it with others.
The Unique Benefits of this House
You'll be staying in a home, not a rental. Great bed, lots of books, plenty of kitchenware and of course - the beach is so close. My mother manages the house. She'll design a special bouquet for you from her garden made up of herbs and flowers that vary depending on the season, that will greet you on arrival along with other treats. She loves children and makes them special treats, too. If you're coming with the kids, our wonderful next-door neighbor is a day-care professional who would be delighted to watch them if you want some "date nights" during your stay.
