The village of Upper Captiva sits on the northern tip of North Captiva Island, a secluded tropical island in Southwest Florida. This bridgeless island is unique among the sandy coastal barrier islands of Florida. North Captiva Island is surrounded by the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Pine Island Sound, about six miles off the mainland of Florida. Boca Grande lies to the north and Captiva and Sanibel lie to the south.
This tropical island is one pearl in the necklace of "outer islands" embracing Pine Island Sound. Access is only by boat or private airplane. No cars! No crowds! This has assured that the island remains unspoiled and unhurried. Its sandy beaches are decorated with an endless supply of driftwood and seashells surpassing that of the legendary Sanibel/Captiva beaches. Upper Captiva is a truly unique combination of comfort and luxury in an idyllic tropical paradise.
This traditional, Florida-style island cottage was completed in 2001 and is situated less than 200 yards down a private path to the wide, sugar, sand beach on the Gulf of Mexico. This is one of the few newer island houses with only one elevated, single-level, floor plan providing ease of access and family-friendly living. It is designed to provide the utmost comfort while capturing the scenic beauty around it.
Features include: Outdoor living environment includes a heated pool with wraparound wooden deck, covered outdoor bar, pool table, barbeque and eating area. The relaxing and stylish interior retreat has a spacious private master suite with study/sitting area and master bath, along with two additional bedrooms in a split floor plan, and a second large bath. Sleeps six with one king, one queen, and two twin beds. Baby crib and high chair are included. A convenient utility room with washer and dryer adjoins the kitchen. High ceilings and light "beach colors" enhance the feeling of open spaces.
The entertainment area includes CD, DVD, and TV equipment, and a collection of traditional board games. The house is centered around a great room concept with windows and doors on all sides opening the house to the outdoors. The kitchen is equipped with modern appliances and flanked by glossy white cabinetry with Corian counters. The dining area opens to the screened porch, kitchen and living area. A bar divides the kitchen from the living area, and there is additional seating for casual dining or sharing meal preparation time. This house is fully furnished, including linens, kitchenware, and all appliances.
This house has been designed with both indoor and outdoor dining areas. Relax in the comfort of modern climate control or open the windows for cross ventilation and natural ocean breezes. Tile floors throughout the house give it a cool, casual ambiance. A screened porch with a sunset view adjoins the great room and serves as a convenient terrace for al fresco dining. Outdoor barbecue grill on rear balcony overlooks the pool. Relax in a hammock or lounge around the pool surrounded by palm trees and tropical vegetation.
It is a short walk or quick ride in the golf cart to reach the pristine natural beach of North Captiva Island. We on Hidden Lane are in the popular “close to everything” neighborhood of Jose’s Hideaway. The house is part of the beach lying on one of the highest coastal “back dunes” about 200 steps from the windswept shore of the wide open “fore dune” environment. There are only four other homes scattered on the secondary dunes between you and the Gulf of Mexico. The shady bayside maritime forest and harborside facilities are equally convenient. The golf cart and bicycles are provided at no extra cost for exploring the island. A variety of beach accessories include beach chairs, beach towels, skimboards, kayaks and much more. Transportation to the Island is available by water taxi/ferry by fare. Boat rentals and fishing charters are also available nearby.

My family of 4 stayed in the Hidden Beach House for 7 days in July 2009. We absolutely were excited about going to the house. Once we arrived the exceeded our expectations. We had all the comforts of home! It was exactly as it was discribed on the website. The owners once we met in person were like old firends and ever so welcoming to have us stay in their home. This was one of our best vacations. It is a vacation for those who are not wanting alot of external attractions. The only attraction we did was rent a speedboat for the day. We visited the nearby barrier islands and walked a beach that was a nature preserve. Beautiful shells were seen even an area where the sea turtles lay and hatch eggs. There were dolphins swimming all around us. A manatee was spotted on our trip to Captiva. How cool! The biggest decisions we had to make daily was 'Do we go to the beach or pool today. We saw numerous beautiful sunsets but did not make it up early enough to see the sunrise...we say next time! We will most likely be returning to the Hidden Beach House.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable vacation home. The owners saw to every detail, form picking us up at the dock, showing us all the mechanicals, entrusting strangers to their home. Home is beautifully decorated, constantly noticed new details throughout the stay. Everything was available at our disposable, from golf cart with trailer, beach chairs, umbrella, beach towels, boogie boards, kayaks, bicycles, etc, etc... When we tired of the beach, we could return to the wonderful pool area with an outdoor shower, pool bath, pool table, gas grill, outdoor fridge. The taxi/grocery service was wonderful-cooked all our meals at the house. A very relaxing, special home-hope to go back!

We had a wonderful vacation. The house was excellent everything was there we needed only our swimsuits. I am very happy we stayed there and will return. The shells on the beach were unbelievable the water was calm and warm only about 7-10 other people on the beach NO CROWDS! just the way we like it. Pat and her husband helped us with our luggage and groceries to the house gave us a quick tour and left us in paradise for one relaxing week nothing but the beach and sun no shoes required for the whole week. If you want a peaceful non fast paced vacation this is the spot no junk stores and no over crowded beaches.
Owner response:Wonderful guests and lovely family!

My husband, mother and 2 boys had a fabulous time at Hidden Beach House. We've rented many different homes over the years in the Caribbean, Hawaii, etc. and this is by far the most well stocked and cared for home. We felt at home instantly. It was so convenient to have 3 sea kayaks (one tandem), and several bicycles at our disposal. Pat & Tom even purchased a kids bike so our 6 year old could enjoy riding as well. Pat was also kind enough to setup a bike trailer rental for our 19 month old and she took it over to the island for us. There was plenty of fishing gear including a Spiderman fishing rod which my son loved and he proudly caught a trout with. The home was very clean and the beds very comfortable. The major difference between some of the other rentals is that the owners take care of the home themselves versus using a service so it's very clean and well taken care of. The pictures posted on the site don't do justice to the charming beach decor and fantastic outdoor space this house offers. The beach was very close and we would take our chairs, umbrella's etc. down in the AM and then removed them at night. The sunrise and sunsets were spectacular, shelling, fishing, kayaking, was wonderful and kept us busy when we got tired of just being lazy at the beach or pool. We saw so many different types of birds, many sea turtles, crabs, dolphins, manatee, etc. We took turns having our meals in the 3 different locations available outside and enjoyed the 4th of July fireworks from the large and comfortable screened in porch. We will definitely be returning in the near future! Thanks Pat & Tom for sharing your beautiful home with us. Carolina

To be on Captiva was enough - but our stay in this house put it over the top. We have actually stayed here three consecutive years - NEVER had a bad experience. The house is always clean, well kept, everything working order. Pool is private and delightful. Nothing tops the outdoor shower. We stay here with two teenagers that enjoy all the amenities. Owners have always treated us like personal house guests. Beach is close by - we actually like the privacy of not being right on the beach. This home is worth every dime and will out do your expectations.

We have stayed at Hidden Beach House two years in a row and have already scheduled for June 2010. This was a great place to stay and the island is beautiful. The house is located walking distance to the Gulf side beach and it's also walking distance to Barnacle Phil's. The pool was great, and the house is perfect for a family.
