Lake Washacum is a beautiful, secluded, private quiet lake in central Massachusetts. A small, guarded beach is 4 houses away, wooded conservation land across the street. The area is quintessential quiet New England of yesteryear.
The home is designed for family time, with a large living area divided into seating and TV sections. View of the water from the kitchen and living areas, as well as 2 of the large, beautifully appointed upstairs bedrooms. Though tough and child friendly in the main living areas, the home is surprisingly elegant and spacious.
Three bedrooms upstairs, including master with private sitting room and jacuzzi with separate shower. Balcony off two lake side bedrooms. Queen beds in both lake side rooms. Furnished with comfortable mix of antiques and local finds. Sparkling up to date kitchen and renovated baths. Downstairs bedroom has 60s-themed twin bed and teenage lounge corner, with DSL computer.
Enjoy burning the wood split and stacked by us and our kids, in the fireplace tucked between kitchen and living room. TV and stereo around the corner. The house has DVDs for children and adults, selection of music and many games for quiet evenings together. Books for all ages are everywhere.
Fully equipped kitchen for when you don't want to enjoy the local restaurants. Sunroom off the kitchen allows views of the water in all weathers. Sip hot chocolate while the children skate out front. Swim from the dock or at the beach; in fall and spring boating prevails. Multiple canoes and kayaks. Sturdy sailboat and paddleboat, with life jackets in the shed. The fishing is excellent as our daughter hand feeds the bass while she snorkels beside the dock.
The small guarded beach is only for Sterling residents. Jet skis are not permitted. Only residents may launch boats from the ramp. We are 15 minutes from Worcester, and an hour East of Boston. Sterling is a sleepy New England town with white steepled church, library and town green. Grocery stores a 5 minute drive to South Lancaster or Clinton. Quabin reservoir, one of the largest drinking water reserves in the country, has beautiful views and hiking 5 minutes away. Walk or bike from the back door. Rails To Trails has several excellent biking trails for those who don't like to ride the curving New England roads. Rota Springs is our local homemade ice cream stand - just through the trees. Local orchards and farm stands still sell their own homegrown produce. Experience life as it never used to be, for a week or a month.
