Fully furnished cottage in the woods with backyard opening to pine trees and four acre pond. Cottage has wood floors, window air conditioners and homey furnishings. Perfect for a family retreat or a romantic getaway. An additional guest house is available on the ranch if more individuals need to be accommodated.

Located on our 300 acre working ranch, Pine Grove Cottage is tucked away on its own corner of the property with private drive and gated entrance. A sunroom runs the length of the house in the back and looks out on the pine grove and lake beyond. An open family room/dining/kitchen is perfect for family gatherings.
Guests are free to roam the ranch property which includes several small lakes (four to seven acres in size) and large expanses of wooded acreage where wildlife and birds abound. Fishing on the lakes is available. Canoes and boats are provided for those who want to go out on the lakes to fish or just relax. The ponds are stocked with catfish, Florida and native bass, and catfish. Visitors can also receive ranch tours including a chance to see prize winning Shorthorn cattle and the owner's herd of miniature horses.
Located within 15 minutes of Pittsburg, Gilmer, and Winnsboro, guests can experience life in the country but enjoy the amenities of a town. In the summer, fresh peaches, blackberries, and blueberries are sold at nearby orchards. Golfing, a winery and a variety of restaurants are within 15 minutes of the ranch. For those who enjoy antiques, there are many shops within 15-30 minutes of the ranch.

The cottage is so cute. The pond with the use of a fishing boat is a great plus. And having the goats to play with was amazing. Wonderful time.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+.

My husband and I had a great week. Everything was as expected and Ms Paula and Mr Jim were so nice. My husband fished all week and on the ponds and there was at least 2 boats so no need to bring your own pirogue. Can't wait to come back.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

The Cottage is the perfect place to find relaxation! There are so many wonderful reading spots both indoors and out, even on a boat in the lake. Our teens built their first snowman and enjoyed the freezing temps outside. Then we built a fire inside to keep us warm and toasty while we played games and made s'mores. This time we even brought the Wii with us to play Mario and go bowling together. This is the perfect place to make memories!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Pine Grove Cottage is a wonderful place. Quiet, peaceful and charming. The goats were fun to feed. Caught some nice bass Had a fire every night in the firepit. Our dogs loved the place. It has a nice little yard just for them.The highlight was the fresh eggs and the interesting tour of the ranch. Jim and Paula are the best. Plan to retun soon. Really enjoyed our week stay. Quiet, Clean and well equipped cottage. Fishing was very enjoyable. Paula and Jim were away but there sister and brother in law made sure we had everything we needed. The goats were fun to watch. The fresh eggs were awesome, and the preserves that were given to us were very tasty. The hosts couldn't have been nicer! Paula & Jim are extremely easy to work with. the property is exactly as described and pictured. Clean, well decorated and QUIET. Keep in mind the cottage is on a ranch and the chicken coop is nearby but that is part of it's charm and fresh eggs are available on request. My kids loved the fact that they could go inside the pasture with the miniature horse and goats. Loved It! Will definitely return some day.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Took my two boys here last year around Thanksgiving and we are returning with them again this year. Paula and her husband are amazing folks with great hospitality.. Thank you for opening up your place to us. The boys fished every moring and every evening and all in between, great getaway for the wife to relax while we boys played.. The homeade jams are amazing and the bisquits also... don't forget the farm fresh eggs either... Caught some great bass and huge blue gill (hybrid)... Thanks again we will be back this year in the new house on the 4 acre lake...Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

We just came back from the cottage with the feeling we left home... Paula was great in everything and specially by sharing her time with our daughter. The house is more beautiful as described and the surroundings are astonishing. We had a wonderful time fishing, walking and relaxing by the pond. We want to thank again Paula and Jim for their special behavior - they offered us the cottage for the weekend free of any charge because they had had to cancel a previous weekend contract on a short notice. My husband and I are very busy people and we needed a break and some solitude. This property was wonderful! The cottage is well appointed, beautifully decorated and clean. The lake and the community barn that are within walking distance was interesting and fun and the fenced in yard made bringing my dog a breeze. I would reccommend this property to anyone.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

My family of 5 spent the Thanksgiving holiday at the cottage. I have three teenagers --- we love the out doors. The cottage was cosy. It was an excellent use of space!!! Everyone enjoyed our stay--- which is a miracle. The place is very peaceful. Our lifestyle is harried --- this was an excellent retreat. About the owner: Jim and Paula Archer own and operate Lone Star Cattle Company, a working 300 acre ranch in Northeast Texas. Jim is a recently retired Professor of Chemistry and Paula is a software sales leader for a major corporation. They moved to the ranch over 10 years ago. Jim remains active as a District Governor for Rotary International. He is also Chair of the local ambulance board. Paula raises Shorthorn show calves and breeding stock. She is on the Board of Directors for the Texas Shorthorn Association. Both enjoy sharing the relaxation and enjoyment of the ranch through the vacation rental program.
Why the Owner Chose Pittsburg:
We love the beauty of the area and the wonderful community of small town friends and neighbors. We moved to East Texas more than 20 years ago. After living in "town" (Pittsburg TX) for 10 years we bought the ranch and fixed up Pine Grove Cottage for our weekend getaway. We loved staying there so much we sold our home in the city and moved to Pine Grove Cottage while we began plans for a new home on another corner of the property. During this time we needed more room for family and friends so we added Spring House on still another corner of the ranch. In 2005 our home was completed and we moved out of Pine Grove Cottage. We decided to offer both Pine Grove and Spring House on VRBO at that time so others could share in the beauty and fun of the ranch. We were so pleased with the wonderful guests that visited, we have added a third VRBO guest apartment and a Bed & Breakfast to allow larger groups to stay. We often host extended families looking for a retreat, wedding parties and multiple families who want to come together to visit. Now we can accommodate all. Our return rate is very high so many of our guests have come to view the ranch as their own special place in the country...without all the hard work!
