How about a perfect ending to a day of skiing Winter Park, Sol Vista, Devil's Thumb Ranch or Snow Mountain Ranch? Nothing beats a Rocky Mountain sunset and vista of Colorado's showcase national park from the porch of our old-style Western retreat.
Nested in the trees at 8100 feet elevation, our Victorian-styled, three-bedroom cabin boasts two decks and a covered front porch with more views of the 12ers and 13ers of Rocky Mountain National Park and the Never Summer Mountains than just about other place in Grand County.
The inside still smells new yet offers a rustically charming, old-West-style retreat. Inside and out, its details conjure up images of Colorado's pioneer days, right down to the wide-plank oak floors and burnished-brass door knobs. In fact, the architect took much of his inspiration from a Victorian-era cottage in the old mining capital of Georgetown, Colorado.
And since there are no street lights, at night you can take in the Milky Way through 16-foot windows.
Other amenities include a dining nook drenched in sunlight from windows on three sides, wireless high-speed Internet, and a two-car garage. (However, if you've got an SUV taller than 7 feet, you'll need to park it in the driveway.) Children age 5 and older are welcome, as is the family dog.
We're smack dab between Winter Park and the national park and Grand Lake. All the best restaurants, hiking and scenic drives of Grand County are within a 20-minute drive. |
