A haven for artists and writers its peaceful and picturesque setting is a magnet for visitors to the east coast of Scotland. SELF CATERING...WITH A TOUCH OF CLASS

The Watch House was built in 1782 and stands in an elevated position with superb sea views over to The Isle of May.

The Cupid Room is situated on the top floor of the house and has three gothic arched windows overlooking the ocean. Large and spacious room with a built in window seat to enable you to enjoy the views. Crystal chandelier and dimmed lighting, wonderful plaster work, fireplace, TV and CD player. The perfect setting for a honeymoon or romantic getaway! The Cupid Room on the top floor leads out to the hall with shower room and toilet. A turned staircase leads down to the middle landing. From here a door leads out to the Castle Walk that leads down to the harbour area. Also on this level is the twin bedroom with window seat overlooking the sea. TV in room.

The Fife Coastal Path leads down from the house and is extremely popular with both locals and tourists. Although The Watch House sits on its own it is only a few minutes from the local pubs/hotels, shops and restaurants.

A LITTLE HISTORY
Although a very small town, Crail has an extremely impressive history, its royal charter being granted by Robert the Bruce in 1310. This charter gave the people of Crail the right to trade on the Sabbath, which may explain why 200 years later John Knox chose Crail parish church as the venue for his most violent of sermons!

Lounge with Oak Beams Dating from 1782. During renovations the old stone walls were revealed behind the plaster walls and an original old beam was discovered. This now forms a feature of the lounge in The Watch House.

The lounge now has dimmer lights and recessed spots highlight the stone walls. A wide screen TV with surround sound and CD player with selection of music. The Watch House has a full kitchen with hob and oven, it also has a microwave oven and washing machine for your use. All the usual kitchen items are available and it has a fridge and freezer. The views from the kitchen window ensures that everyone wants to do the dishes.

Amazing cottage with great view and charm

Guest: Jerallie (Switzerland)
Date of Stay: 01/01/12 Review Submitted: 01/15/12

My wife, sister daughter and I stayed at the tower house the week after new years and had a great time. The house was fantastic. The views were to die for and with the old style of house, you could hear the ocean all night. Talk about a southing sleep. The house had everything you could want and the the rooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. The ocean feels even closer than the photos show and with the sunrise after 8 in the morning, we saw it 3 times. The village of Crail is quaint and charming. We ate at the Anstruther Fish and Chips restaurant just 10 minutes down the road and it was awesome. St. Andrews was less than 20 minutes and we enjoyed many a stroll through town. Fabulous stay and great house. I will be back for sure.

Owner response:Hi Guys.... you know it so nice to get people who stay at the house taking the time to show appreciation. Many thanks. Glad you loved the village and the area... it is very special. You must try and get over during the summer months when the weather is better and you can sit on the patio during the evening and get to talk to the many local people who walk up and down the coastal path. There is so much to see and do in the area within such a short distance I am sure another visit would enhance your perception of Scotland and the local area. Look forward to having you all stay again. best regards.

Terrific experience

What a fabulous place for a vacation. The whole family loved the views, the city, the people, local golf, local seafood, and the hiking right outside the door. The easy access to the Coastal Trail was definitely a plus, but even if you only wanted to enjoy the view it would be ideal. Harry was great to work with, and we are definitely hoping to return in the near future.

Owner response:So glad you enjoyed this old house.... it is a very special place and we loved the fact that you all appreciated all the house and the area has to offer. Hope you tried the fish and chips at Anstruther.... They have just won The Best In Britain award.

Watch house in Crail

Guest: René (Cologne, Germany)
Date of Stay: 07/31/10 Review Submitted: 08/23/10

Amazing view, very quite. A really romantic accomodation equipped with the necessary items; all in goot conditions. Tiny but sufficient bath room, clean. Ideal for 4 persons. We were 5 adults and had not sufficient space in the cupboard and the foldable bed was neither comfortable nor long enough. The foldable dining table has only 4 chairs, the living room is not equipped for 5 either. Very frindly landlords (contact only by phone).

We felt very at Home in The watch House, warm cosy and very safe. The views are stunning and the accommodation perfect. We ate at The Dreel Inn Anstruther, also the wee chippy. The food was great. Eastern Spice was also very nice. We will be back again. Thanks to Linda & Harry

I have lost cout of the number of times we have stayed at The Watch House, but it will always be the perfect place for us to chill and leave the rat race behind. P.S. this is the one place in the world where I dont mind doing the washing up.
