La Casa del Pocito is a restored colonial rowhouse with 18 foot high ceilings, thick stone walls, cool tile floors, a Moroccan-inspired pool with glass mosaic tiles and an interior courtyard that allows light to filter into the interior spaces. Well-known architect Salvador Reyes Rios restored this house to its original charm, seamlessly modernizing the systems without sacrificing any of the character. Interior and exterior spaces become transparent thanks to the openness of the architecture.
The current owners who are professional interior designers have thoughtfully made their own mark on this beautiful house. They have furnished and accessorized La Casa del Pocito with artwork from their own collection, antiques from the area and other pieces that have been made according to their own designs especially for the house. The authentic interiors of the house reflect a relaxed luxury and reference the restrained interiors of Andalusian Spain. A few modern touches and some saturated color have been thrown in to mix things up a bit. The result is a soothing, uncluttered, comfortable place that you may find difficult to leave.
La Casa del Pocito includes room for entertaining or relaxing in the formal sala, a comedor that seats six or eight, a courtyard with a quiet fountain, and an intimate study (with wi-fi) that looks out onto the pool and walled garden. There are two air conditioned bedrooms, including one with an impressive painted four poster bed with antique gilt flourishes. The master bedroom overlooks the pool with its wrought iron canopy bed made by a local craftsman. Two modern bathrooms with step in showers retain their original character with antique tiles. A typical Mayan kitchen has polished concrete counters and an antique tall cupboard. The cocina is equipped with everything you’ll need to prepare simple meals at home if you wish.
This privately owned townhouse is offered as a vacation rental to those seeking privacy, unstructured days and independent adventures in travel. This is not your typical Bed and Breakfast or hotel experience but offers guests an opportunity to immerse themselves into the local culture, color and richness of this undiscovered colonial Mexican city.

The Unique Benefits at this Townhouse
Living in a piece of colonial history, enjoying the unique architectural features, and savoring the peace and quiet that lie behind the massive entry doors. Merida's Historico Centro is a busy, busy place with lots of bus traffic (and noise). Casa Pocito enjoys an enviable location on a short street with no bus traffic. We encourage you to always ask about street traffic and noise when you are making your inquiries at the various properties in and around the center of Merida.

I visited the Yucatan in the late 1970s when I was still in college. The people, the pace and the beauty of Merida left a lasting impression. Although there have been many changes and growth especially in the north of the city since then, the place retains all of it's original charm. My partner and I purchased Casa Pocito in 2004 and use it as a getaway, when we are not in residence we receive guests. We redesigned the interior spaces and added the Moroccan plunge pool to enhance the property.
