When you cross the intracoastal waterway you will travel over beautiful marshes filled with native birds on your way to Sunset Beach, North Carolina. The island itself is a little piece of paradise with some of the widest beaches you will see on the Atlantic seaboard. The beach is accessible at EVERY street via a wooden walkway through a large expanse of dunes filled with sea oats, grasses, and shrubbery.
We are located in the 8TH row back from the ocean about a FIVE MINUTE WALK to the water. The island is mainly residential and basically lacks commercialism aside from a few shops, a deli/grocery, and a bed and breakfast/motel.
Our beach house at 425 32nd St.on the WEST END of the island has a very unique layout. There is a separate living room, dining area, kitchenette, and bedroom/bathroom upstairs with the remaining bedrooms and living/kitchen/dining areas on the first floor. There are 3 bedrooms on the first floor; one bedroom has a king size bed with a connecting bath and the other two bedrooms each have a twin and a queen size bed and share a bath.
Upstairs there is a suite with a king size bed and a bath along with the other amenities listed above. Almost like two houses in one with SEPARATE ENTRANCES for each. It is the perfect home for either two couples, or a family with teenagers who like their privacy, or perhaps young children who need a quiet space, or maybe even for grandparents who came along and would like a little peace and quiet and privacy too. And the widow's watch (or roof deck) has a beautiful view of the sunrise and sunset due to the southern exposure of the island. You can even catch a view of the ocean from here.
This is a NO SMOKING and NO PET unit. We only RENT TO FAMILIES and ADULTS OVER the age of 24. HOUSE PARTIES per se are not allowed however entertaining by the renters is acceptable as long as loud, unruly or otherwise objectionable behavior IN OR OUT of the house is not exhibited. ALL FURNISHINGS which are part of the house MAY NOT be removed from the house. THERE MAY NOT BE MORE PEOPLE STAYING IN THE HOUSE THAN THERE ARE BEDS FOR!
The house is supplied with comforters, mattress pads, and pillows all other linens and towels are supplied by the renter. Renters are asked to supply their own paper products and any cleaning supplies they may need. A broom, mop, and vacuum cleaner are available for any immediate cleaning needs. A nominal fee of $90.00 will be charged for cleaning at departure to ensure the cleanliness of the house for our next renters.Check-in time is 3:30 pm and check-out time is at 10:30 am.These times need to be STRICTLY ADHERED to for my housekeeper to be able to get the entire house cleaned for the next renters.
The rental price listed is for the RENT ONLY. There is an ADDITIONAL CHARGE for the CLEANING(as stated above), NC TAX & SECURITY DEPOSIT. We DO NOT accept credit cards. ONLY CHECKS(PERSONAL AND CASHIERS)are accepted and there is a $30 charge for all returned checks.
We love our home and take a great deal of pride in it. We have furnished it in a beach motif and keep it updated to meet all of your needs. The furnishings have been chosen with care and we hope that they will create a comfortable atmosphere for you to vacation in.

My wife and I stayed at Bugsy's Karat Island for the month of April (2013) . The beach is everything this listing suggests it is and more. It is literally five minutes walk. The house is clean and very well equipped. We as a couple felt comfortable but the house could easily handle a full family. We are avid golfers and golf is as close as 5 minutes by car. The courses are convenient , quality venues and reasonably priced. The island has very little commercialization but grocery shopping, shopping and good restaurants are 10 minutes away. What can I say we loved the place and we hope to returnRecommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My wife and I spent the month of April at Bugsy's Island Karat. We found the house to be very clean and well equipped. This house is very spacious and can easily accommodate full families. The design of the house makes it comfortable for couples or families. The beach is five minutes walk and it is everything described in this listing. It must be incredible in the hot summer. We are avid golfers and courses are as close five minutes by car. They are plentiful , first rate and reasonably priced. Sunset Beach is not commercialized but convenient grocery shopping is 10 minutes drive. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area. All in all we thought it was a great spot.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My father lives about 10 minutes from Sunset Beach in Carolina Shores. Sunset Beach was the perfect location to enjoy a family reunion without taking over his whole house. Bugsy's Island Karat is well designed for several families, very clean, and the views, especially from the top deck, are amazing. The walk to the beach is only 2 or 3 minutes. Unfortunately it was too cold to enjoy the decks, but we did enjoy hanging out in the first floor kitchen/living area and did enjoy a delicious Easter dinner together. Would love to spend more time there when the weather warms up!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We have been coming to Bugsy's Island Karat for a few years now. The house is always very clean and has everything we need to function for a week at the beach. We like the number of rooms and being able to separate the upper floor from the lower floor. We usually have four or five adults and a handful of kids (emphasis on handful). We leave the kids in the downstairs living room and retreat to the living room upstairs for quiet conversation. The house has three levels of decks...so we can also sit around outside and away from the kids. The top deck has a good view of the ocean and we usually split our time between the top deck and the front porch. It is only a 2 or 3 minute walk to the beach from the house. Sunset Beach goes East/West...so you can actually watch the sunrise and sunset on the beach. There are many things to do using Sunset Beach as a base...there is a very nice Christmas shop in Calabash, about 15 minutes away. Myrtle Beach and all of its noise/action is 25 to 30 minutes away (shorter if you stay off of 17). Wilmington is about 50 minutes North and has lots of touristy things to do (they were shooting two movies there during our visit). We have tried many houses during our trips to Sunset and have finally found one to which we look forward to returning in Bugsy's Island Karat.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Large upstairs for the older kids. Clean and everything works. We've stayed a week in this house almost every year for the last 8 years and look forward to future vacations here. Its been a great house for a family week together.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our family spent a fun relaxing week at Bugsy's Island Karat. The house is lovely and one of the cleanest we have ever rented. The upstairs living area worked well for the younger grandchildren to take naps away from the rest of the family. The owner was very good to work with. The beach is a great family beach, especially for families who just enjoy the beach but close enough to Mytle Beach for those who enjoy shows and shopping. We enjoyed the week we spent at Bugy's Island Karat.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our week at Bugsy's Karat was a wonderful experience! The home was very comfortable, clean and well kept, more like a personal home than a rental home. The house had everything we needed. The layout of the upstairs portion of the house is such a nice ammenity and offers guests a lot of flexibility. We enjoyed the friendly, residential atmosphere of the island and the beach is one of the nicest we have visited.Becky was very easy to work with and took care to make sure all the details were taken care of. Stores and restaurants are nearby when you need them, with a small town feel and lots of fun shops. This is a place we want to visit again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Came down for a week and was joined by our friends from NY and had a blast at Bugsy's Island Karat! The place was very nicely furnished and the floor plan was perfect for the 8 of us. The decor was very nice and the couch was oh so comfy! The upstairs apartment was just the private retreat my wife and I needed, it was very spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Absolutely LOVED the front porch and spent many nights out there just chilling and winding down after a great day on the beautiful Sunset Beach. The access was so perfect just steps away from the house. Sunset Beach is by far the most family oriented and relaxing beach we have ever visited. You got to visit the Boundary House in Calabash atleast 1 night for dinner...Great food! We will be BACK! Thanks again Becky, you were fantastic to work with! My family had a wonderful 2012 vacation at Bugsy's Island Karat at Sunset Beach. We've been visiting Sunset Beach for many years and this home was definitely one of the nicest we've rented. The upstairs suite is perfect for Grandparents--which sold us on the home! The kids and grandkids really enjoyed the easy walk to the beach, the comfortable furniture, and the dining table perfect for eating and playing games. Thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy your home and we hope to be back again! Also, the owners are so nice to deal with and very accommodating. They do a great job keeping up their property.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

I can't say enough about the house! It was first class all the way! We took our whole family. The ages run from 60 to 9. Everyone had a great time! The sunrises and sunsets were breathtaking. The beach was out of a movie! We hated to come home! We cooked alittle, washed clothes as needed, every appliance was new! We had the time of our lives! We are already planning on comming down this fall and next summer! I am sixty and never experienced a beach vacation and now I am hooked. Your home made our vacation. It was next to the beach, just the perfect location.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
