CASA TRAVESSA
What are our famous guests saying? (Hint: Please read the testimonials on our VisitingPortugal website.)
Location, location, location. Only 3 minutes from the Rossio -- Lisbon's main plaza -- yet far from the noise and panhandlers in the Bairro Alto/Chiado.
Step directly from your ancient cobblestone lane into this private, sunlight-filled, 19th-century home with its charming view of the Igreja do Carmo, Lisbon's soaring monument to the 1755 earthquake.
Casa Travessa provides easy access to shops, restaurants, and transportation... while hidden away on a quiet residential street. Compact and cozy with an airy, open floor plan, Casa Travessa is the ideal base for a couple traveling alone or with a child.
Like our nearby flagship property, Casa Joaquina (VRBO #30177) which was showcased on the Fine Living Channel's "Around the World in 80 Homes," Casa Travessa features hand-stitched Arraiolos rugs, custom-made Portuguese furnishings, and local artwork and pottery.
With its private entrance, Casa Travessa feels more like a house than an apartment as you step directly into its well-stocked little kitchen. The bedroom has a double-size bed and the living room provides a sofa/trundle bed which easily converts to two comfortable twin beds. The bedroom bookshelves are stocked with books and games for young and old alike, perfect for relaxing at the end of a busy day.

Thanks so much Jason for welcoming us and showing us around the area around Casa Travessa! We enjoyed the apartment and its wonderful setting. We couldn't have asked for a better end to our trip to Portugal. We would recommend your apartment to anyone who wants a comfortable, accessible place to stay that doesn't separate you off in some tourist enclave. We only wished we had had longer to stay in Lisboa.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, age 55+.

Dear Deb! Thank you for a great welcome and stay in Lisbon. Your guided tour was invaluable to get us started and your tip for take away roast chicken was delicious! We had a very relaxing stay which was exactly what we had hoped for. The apartment is very homey, comfortable and relaxing. We love its natural and tasteful decor and its location set within an idyllic Lisbon neighborhood of narrow picturesque streets is very unique and memorable. It is also perfectly located close to the Rossio and everything is easily accessible. Your knowledge of the area, history and architectural insights enriched our stay. You are very professional and hospitable and we would love to return some day. Perhaps we'll bring the children next time... many thanks -

Dear Deb - We couldn't be more pleased with our stay at the Casa Travessa. From the convenient location to the local treasures (frango!, the market up the street, etc), we had such a great stay in Lisbon. Given that we were visiting during Thanksgiving, we could not have been more thankful for finding Casa Travessa and your generous hospitality! Obrigada!

Once we got used to the climb, Casa Travessa's perfect location was clear. We could go anywhere from here! (Sintra on the train opposite the square, all over the city on the metro, Cascais from the Cais do sodré, and all over Alfama and the Bairro Alto on the 28 tram). The apartment was perfectly-sized for the two of us and we enjoyed the spots recommended on the restaurant street. (Solar was amazing, both for food and for ambiance.) It was also great to have Deb's entry-day neighborhood tour and the basic provisions, which got us through our jet lag bleariness.I love the light in the apartment! It was really bright and airy. Having all the electrical connections to the world made us feel really comfortable, including different kinds of music.Debbie's orientation and directions carried us through the week. We had a great time! Loved the bed and the fluffy towels! Thanks so much -

Casa Travessa exceeded our expectations! Beach towels and cool bag a bonus for our trip to Carcavelos; a massive sandy beach with beautiful clear water and almost no one there. Pena Palace and Moorish Castle were well worth a day trip, and was something our abandoned children at home might well have enjoyed. Restaurants we have particularly enjoyed were the Lighthouse (O Farol) for extraordinarily good value lobster, crab and huge prawns and Buenos Aires for very tasty steak and delightful atmosphere. Very well equipped accommodation and extra touches make Casa Travessa a wonderful place to stay.
