A wonderful place to stay on the coast of Maine

Guest: suzanne (Streator, Illiinois)
Date of Stay: 10/08/11 Review Submitted: 10/26/11

The description of the Arbor House is accurate, if not understated. The location is perfect for a view of the harbor, within a nice walk to the downtown area and shops, and centrally located to allow the perfect base for day trips up and down the coast. The accomodations are beautifully appointed and Ann and Gary have thought of everything one might need and MORE to make this charming apartment comfortable and interesting. Charming and whimmiscal touches are visible and waiting to be explored when you make the Arbor House home away from home. Ann and Gary are on site and anxious to insure that you have everything you need. This is our second visit, and the newly created deck off of the kitchen was added feature that was so appealing that we stay "in" for two night just to enjoy the deck and grill. The lovely quilt and ample down pillows in the bedroom were quite inviting and welcome at the end of a busy day. From the Midwest, we spend many vacations in Door County, Wisconsin...the Maine of the Midwest. I wish we could find an Arbor House in the Door. I strongly recommend the Arbor House....summer or winter!

Delightful

Guest: S & G (New York City)
Date of Stay: 06/19/11 Review Submitted: 07/05/11

My husband and I stayed at Arbor House four nights in June. We loved it. The location was great. Close to town, beach, and other attractions. The unit itself was very spacious. It had a deck with grill. We ate all breakfasts outside and one dinner while watching the harbor. The hosts Ann and Gary were delightful. They offered sight seeing ideas, gardening tips (gardens are beautiful) and they were just fun to talk to. I would definitely recommend this property. I would have given it 5 stars if it had a regular shower. (There was a tub with a hand held shower device). Nearby attractions we recommend: Owl's Head Transportation Museum, Farnsworth Museum, Camden sailing excursions and many good loval restaurants.

Arbor house

Date of Stay: 09/18/10 Review Submitted: 10/25/10

We stayed at Arbor House from 18th to 23rd September this year (2010) and really enjoyed staying in such a pleasant apartment wonderfully located for strolling into town. It was clean and very well equipped and Ann and Gary were welcoming without being intrusive. I found Ann very helpful throughout the period when I was booking the apartment, which is not always easy from England! Not only am I very happy to recommend the apartment but I can also recommend Rockland as a good base on the Maine coast not least with Camden National Park and even Acadia within reach.

Why The Arbor House Rules!

Guest: Holly (Richmond, VA)
Date of Stay: 08/14/10 Review Submitted: 09/20/10

We have stayed at the Arbor House two or three times and consider it a must whenever we are in Maine. It is even better than the description and pictures, clean, cozy and commodious in space and furnishings. The location is perfect for an in-town stay: practically on the harbor, near the boardwalk around the harbor and a quiet, small beach area. The apartment has a small deck with a great glimpse of the harbor and overlooks the colorful, lush garden. The apt. is spacious, comfortable and attractively appointed. There are good seats in the living area, a large dining table which is perfect for puzzle working or other projects like updating scrapbooks, using the computer, playing Scrabble, etc. The bedroom has a lovely queen size bed with fresh linens (LL Bean) and a lightweight duvet and down pillows as well as ample storage for clothes in the closet and an antique chest of drawers. The kitchen is well supplied with cookware, dishes, glass wear and any utensil you could possibly need including "lobster-eating" tools and cook pot. We love walking in town for dining, shopping and viewing the busy waterfront. There are places a short drive away (Owl's Head Light) which afford some of the best ocean views and one of the largest harbors in Maine. Also nearby in Thomaston is the amazing Maine State Prison Store where products made by prisoners are for sale: wood works, furniture, baskets, toys, puzzles, paper products, etc. There are lobster pounds nearby in coastal settings which make a nice outing for really fresh lobster eating. We have made day trips to the Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park area from Rockland. There are so many reasons that we love to go to the Arbor House but none rate greater than our fondness for owners, Ann and Gary who make us feel so much at home and are specialists at helping guests find what they need for their comfort and enjoyment but can also let you alone to enjoy their wonderful home.

"Paradise at Arbor House"

Guest: Don & Margo (Virginia Beach, VA)
Date of Stay: 08/28/10 Review Submitted: 08/28/10

As the morning sun rises brilliantly over Rockland Harbor, sailboats dot the horizon and the gentle ocean breezes blow past us as we sip coffee on the deck at “Arbor House”. Below the deck is the “Garden of Eden” itself with an array of gorgeous flowers blooming for our enjoyment! Once again we know we are “home in paradise” at 21 Ocean St. From our very first stay at Arbor House, the proprietor, Dr. Ann Jennings, and her husband, Gary, welcomed us as though we were returning friends. The apartment is very quaint New England “cottage-type”, warmly decorated and very inviting! The king-size bed is comfy and the early morning sun peeks through the 2 large windows beckoning us to “rise & shine” and explore Rockland and surrounding areas. The cute kitchen is fully equipped…but why cook with so many wonderful restaurants close by? Across from A.H. is the lovely mile-long boardwalk which wraps around the waterfront, lined with Stella Dora Day Lilies, an early morning favorite! It leads to the quaint downtown shops. If you check the low tide chart, you may fine sea glass at the beach to the right of the boardwalk….one of our favorite relaxing “things to do”!! Arbor House is ideally located for day trips around Mid-Coast Maine. Our favorite trip being the “Cabbage Island Clambakes Cruise” out of Boothbay Harbor…a real must! http://www.cabbageislandclambakes.com/clambakes.htm We have made 5 visits to Arbor House and plan many more in the years to come. Everything you read regarding Arbor House in VRBO is definitely true and more……We are always looking forward to our next visit! Don & Margo H. Virginia Beach, VA

Scenic cottage combined with comforts of home

Guest: Dona (San Jose, CA)
Date of Stay: 07/24/10 Review Submitted: 08/19/10

We've stayed at the Arbor House three times over the last 10 years and we can't wait to return for our fourth visit. Centrally located in scenic Rockland, the Arbor House offers charm combined with all the comforts of home. Our apartment was filled with books and artwork which made every room an adventure. The best part about staying at the Arbor House is the garden. Walking through the garden to get to your room makes you think like you're in the middle of a perfume factory. Rocking chairs on the porch allow visitors to gaze on the garden while waiting for their fresh lobsters to finish boiling. The owners of Arbor House are more than friendly. They make you feel like family and are never too busy to chat with visitors. I can't recommend the Arbor House strongly enough. It's one in a million. There are numerous niceties from the handmade soaps to the popcorn snacks for the children. The soap in the bathroom is fabulous and is made locally. The owners are as available as you'd like them to be. They're a great resource for local haunts, directions, maps and varied Maine coast activities. It's a culturally enriching experience while still giving the feeling of home. We always return feeling more like old friends than customers.

Charming apt with all amenities; fabulous harbor and downtown location and gracious hosts

Guest: Diana (Rockland, Maine)
Date of Stay: 03/01/10 Review Submitted: 08/19/10

Stayed off-season for 2 months (March and April 2010) in the Arbor House upstairs furnished 1 bedroom apartment site unseen in a move from San Francisco. Charming house; apt is cute, homey and has wonderful amenities like books, games, TV, internet access, homemade soaps, gourmet kitchenware, dishes, glasses, fluffy towels. Window planters and beautiful gardens. Great location near the harbor and easy 3 minute walk to downtown. Owners Gary and Ann are lovely, caring, gracious, knowledgeable and fun hosts. This was my welcome to Maine and convinced me I had moved to the right place!

Best Place In Maine

Guest: Tim (Charlotte, NC)
Date of Stay: 08/01/10 Review Submitted: 08/15/10

My family and I loved this place. We call it "a little piece of heaven". It was within walking distance to downtown Rockland and all of its shops and resturants. In addition, it is very close to the beach. The Rockland area is beautiful. Every place we went could be on a postcard. The house was such a charm. It was clean, well decorated and beautiful inside. The outside should be in a Better Homes and Garden magazine. The outside is full of all kinds of beautiful shrubs and flowers. As a matter of fact, the inside should be in a magazine as well. It is very cozy and comfortable. The owners are very nice and extremely accomodating. They provided us with all the necessities and then some. For anyone looking for the ultimate Maine vacation, it should start with the "Arbor House". We would come back and stay in a heartbeat. I want to say thanks to the owners for creating some wonderful memories
