We've stayed in many VRBO's and this is one of the best. Great condition, amenities, and the owner provided many nice touches as a list of what to do, best places to eat, etc. Had many book on the area and even the Hana road CD to listen to while you were driving the Hana Road. When making the reservation over the internet, you could tell that the owner was interested and not just going through the motions. We would definitely recommend the condo and we'd go back.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway.

We just returned from a wonderful week's stay at this unit and it couldn't have been any better! The owner (Gayle) was extremely helpful from the initial contact to the date of arrival and everything was exactly as represented. The views are magnificent and the privacy is awesome! Everything that you need is right there. We were particularly pleased with the rooftop and poolside grilling set ups for the community - made it very fun and easy to enjoy a home meal after a busy day touring. The Netflix availability on the tv was also a bonus that we enjoyed after many dinners. The location seemed perfect as well being very central to all of the island activities. It's a nice residential community area, easy for runs or walks and handy to many fine beaches (especially south). The highlights for us were; private kayak tour with Hawaiin Paddle Sports, drive to Hana, drive up and hiking down into summit crater of Haleakala, drive to La Perouse bay and walk in along lava rock trails to our own deserted beach! A truly memorable vacation place and home away from home! We certainly hope to return!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Very nice condo with a beautiful oceanfront view, perfect sunsets and whale watching. Even when the wind blows, the lanai is protected so you can still enjoy the outdoors and the view. Unit is clean and comfortable. Property is older but very well maintained. Great walking beach right out the front of the building. Centrally located for day trips to Wailea/Makena, Upcountry or Lahaina/Kaanapali areas. We would definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Can't say enough good things about this condo in Menehune Shores in Kihei, this unit was immaculate. Everything was provided, such as beach towels, beach chairs, coolers, etc. There are gas grills on the grounds and also some on the top floor, very convenient if you don't want to eat out every night. The kitchen was very well stocked, everything you need for preparing a meal is there. There was also some sunscreen items left in the bathroom, this is nice if you forgot yours. View from condo was breathtaking, beautiful sunsets! I even got up one morning to see the moon set, all from our lanai. This condo was right on the ocean and grounds was beautiful! I had to actually touch the grass to make sure it was real it was so green, it's real!!! Beach was lovely and very secluded, perfect for family with small children, waves were very mild. Watched wind surfers on the ocean everyday. The location was very close to everything we did on Maui. Tons of restaurants and shopping minutes away. Plenty of parking spaces always available. This is a one bedroom condo and I was very satisfied with the price we paid. All the rooms were nice size and very nicely decorated. The owner has provided plenty of books on Maui, even a CD of Hana if you decide to make the trip. We did! There is a washer and dryer in the room and also a hair dryer in the bathroom. This unit is not air conditioned but it was never needed there was always a wonderful breeze coming through the entire condo, just open the windows. It was wonderful!!! Once we landed at the airport the drive from there to the condo was about 20 minutes. Maui was a lovely place and I can't wait to return, when I do I will definitely be staying here again! Owner was very quick to answer all my emails with questions I had. The description of this property was very accurate and I think the condo was better than the pictures! We were very satisfied with everything. This unit is just a wald away from the Whale Sanctuary, which was very interesting and well worth the walk. Maalea Harbor is a 10 minute drive. Lahaina about a 30 minute drive.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Not only is the view outstanding but the inside of the condo is totally redone. The owners were just the best you could ask for. We had every amenity you could ask for. Its extremely comfortable and stylish. We went to 2 restaurants for happy hour and realized the view here was so much nicer. We ended up cooking and staying in. What an amazing view to have coffee in the morning. Thank you so much Gayle for your hospitality. We will definitely be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed at Gayle's condo in October of 2012. It was our second trip to Maui and it surpassed the experience we had the first time there, mainly due to the location and amenities offered at Menehune Shores. We loved drinking coffee on the lanai in the morning with our breakfast and watching the wind-surfers, boats, people fishing and just walking along the shore. The condo offered us everything we needed; plenty of towels for the beach, sand chairs, washer/dryer, kitchen with plenty of dishes and cookware, cable tv, pool, 360 degree view on the rooftop, complete with bar-b-ques and tables, and close proximity to some of the world's most beautiful beaches. Can't wait to go back again!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We have stayed in a lot of vacation rentals over the years, but this was the best by far. The description of the location and pics of the interior are totally accurate. Sunsets are definately the highlight of the day, so make sure you are not our touring during that time! We loved the kick back feeling in the building, the views so close to the water, the beach out front and on both sides, and of course this condo has everything you need for a quiet, romantic, vacation. We decided to ask a realtor about units for sale in the building, but alas, they would need a lot of work to measure up to this one. We decided renting was probably the way to go, and we plan to come back again and again. Enjoying the luau at the Grand Wailea, Molokini Snorkel, Biking down Haleakala, and the whale foundation next door, we realized how centrally located we were for everything. Grounds are immaculate, the pool is perfect and heated, BBQ grills are great for grilling the fresh fish you can buy either at Costco or down the road in Kihei. We really had a great trip, will not hesitate to recommend this unit to others as well as the one we stayed in owned by Gayle and Bill, on the BIg Island. Thanks for everything.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I enjoyed a romantic tropical vacation in This oceanfront condo. You can actually toss pennies in the pacific standing on the lanai. We had a gorgeous view and enjoyed beautiful sunsets every evening! Gayle is so accommodating and quickly responds to any questions. She also provided a great list of varying local recommendations. Staying here is like trying a new restaurant, having a great, down to earth, home run meal and having "that" feeling - you can't wait to go back! The condo unit was clean & very peaceful - plenty of parking and close to EVerything! We packed a cooler (several available in unit) everyday and explored the island- so many very well maintained beaches - close by - in all directions! The condo is well stocked with beach chairs, boogie boards & beach towels. The kitchen is very well stocked - and several grocery stores with very nice staff nearby! Don't doubt the pictures they are true to what you will find - I have some of the same pictures on my camera! You will not be disappointed!! LoriDid you find this review helpful? My husband and I had a long overdue honeymoon on Maui and stayed at Gayle's condo. We loved it! We felt it was definitely clean and well-maintained. It's centrally located to many other great spots in Maui and, here's the best part: the VIEW! It was pretty amazing to hear the ocean waves as you fall asleep and then also wake up to such a serene sight. We spent many a morning having our breakfast out on the lanai, and some dinners, too. We had a blast playing shuffleboard, utilizing the pool, rooftop grills and walking along the nearby beach. Plus, free and easy parking. It is an experience we will never forget.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

I recommend staying in Gayle's Condo, as it was a wonderful place to spend our vacation. Other recommendations are: Lanai: Coffee in the am, wine in the pm, that’s why we chose the Smiths Condo, “fabulous” view, great condo fully equipped, and owners easy to work with. Here: BBQ Grilles by pool and rooftop. Food: Time supermarket, fresh and good prices. Dinner Cruise for sunset with Pacific Whale Foundation Stella Blues, fresh catch of the day, $30. Activities: Snorkel, Big Beach, around the rock outcropping Ioa Valley, $5 for parking, worth it! Scuba Molokini: with Scuba Shack. Bike Down Haleakala with Haleakala Bike Co. Road to Hana: A must, and go all the way around to the south. Relaxing: Just relax at Menehune Shores, the grounds are lovely, pool Is heated, and views to die for. Refer to the Smiths Favorite things to do in Maui………….that was spot on!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We actually stayed in a different condo of the same owners. We were in #612 on the top floor. Owners were very responsive and great to deal with. We have stayed in other condos in Kihei but this was the nicest. Fabulous ocean views with many whales, outriggers, and paddle boarders to see. Sunsets are wonderful too. The Menehune Shores building is imaculately maintained. The unit is completely renovated. Clean and new everywhere you look. Well stocked from the kitchen to beach gear to binoculars. We highly recommend this and the other condos of these owners.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

We have stayed in this condo before and it is our favorites, feels like home. The view is amazing, saw lots of whales, and turtles from the lanai, in the lagoon out front between 7 and 8 am. The beaches in either direction from the condo make for beautiful long walks. Past the last condo in Sugar Beach is an outrigger Canoe Club. Five days a week, they train you to paddle and take you out for $10.00 an hour. All I can say is that sure is pure magic on the water. We saw a mother and baby whale close up. You have to get there by 6:30 am to make sure you get on the list to go out. They go out 2 or 3 times but lots of people show up to go. ……. It was so much fun, it is worth getting up for. Also, the whale foundation boat trip from 9-11 am was awesome. It was $39.00 each and we saw lots of whales and dolphins, go early in the day when the ocean is calm. It leaves from Maalaea Harbor near Buzz’s. We'll be back to the Smith's condo, as they take such good care of guests and the unit itself.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

Three years ago we stayed in the owner's unit on 4th floor which was absolutely fabulous and we have since recommended it to many others. This year we rented unit 612 - you can not believe this unit! The condo is absolutely amazing -completely renovated with the most modern finishes. It is completely equipped with everything you need. And the view -you have to see it to believe it -whales just off shore and turtles right up along the shore! The Menehune Shores property is very well maintained- exceptionally well groomed and clean. The property is so well situated on Maui - centrally located so that travel time and access to any of the island activities is just a short drive. We have been to Maui a few times and try to do something different each time. The last 2 times we have especially enjoyed going Upcountry. This time we discovered the Lavendar farm - a must to visit especially in the morning -spectacular views and great scones!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

Jan 2012 Best view in all of Maui! We have had a wonderful time in 416 and couldln’t have asked for a nicer unit, and a more wonderful vacation. We made two tries to see the sunrise at Haleakala, and the 2nd try was awesome, beautiful and well worth it. The Road to Hana CD was very helpful as were all the books on the local area, thank you for those. We explored many beaches and loved he trip to the blowhole (northern shore of W. Maui) WOw, what desolate beauty. This is truly an island of extremes. We loved this condo, thanks for the beach towels, boogie board, cooler and all the essentials. The lanai is perfect, what a view. This is God’s country. Mahalo,Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

If a little piece of heaven is what you are looking for; this is it. The sound of the surf is all you hear at night in this quiet condo overlooking the Pacific Ocean from the shores of Hawaii’s best island, Maui. If you are looking for unobstructed views of the ocean, where you are able the watch the whales jumping in winter, turtles feeding in the mornings, and the beautiful Hawaiian sunsets, then this would be the place for you. We have stayed here on several of our Hawaii trips and really like the place. It is fully set up with everything you need for cooking, playing, or just relaxing. We walked the beaches every day, paddle boarded right out front, and filled everyday with activities from this continently located condo. You will love it. I can't say enough nice things about this location. WE LOVED IT! The unit was VERY nicely furnished and equipped. FABULOUS! It was convenient and very well maintained. Anything that I needed to cook was there. It was nice that some spices and seasonings were available. The photos showed it exactly as it is. Loved the Hawaiian Quilt bedspread, my favorite colors, too! The owner was extremely helpful on information. We liked the Big Wave Restaurant (nearby) and Fred's Mexican Restaurant (a little farther away). Don't often eat burgers, but Fred's has a fabulous cheeseburger. We loved visiting the Tedshi Winery, had an elkburger there (nearby gift shop and food). Our first time for that, and we both liked it. We've been to Maui several times and have been to Hana (if you drive it yourself, would recommend the rental of GPS. The last time we did it, we rented a tape to play in the car pointing out all the points of interest along the way), the Iao Needle (significant historical site) and to Haleakala, even at dawn, once. During the day, Haleakala resembles a moonscape, dawn is wonderfullably indescribable. We are recommending this location to all our friends whether or not they're planning a Hawaii trip in the near future.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

OH my goodness, when we walked in we felt like we were on a boat. All we saw was water, and that is what we loved the entire time we stayed there. Besides the fabulous view, the unit is also upgraded, with all tile floors, granite kitchen counters, updated appliances, including washer/dryer and ice maker. The owners were very responsive, and all the information provided for the stay was accurate. We felt right at home, able to surf the web, watch DVD's provided, listen to music, and use the books that were available to guests. The books were especially helpful in finding where to snorkel, eat, and visit. The bed was comfortable, and the ceiling fans were nice to move the air. We had a wonderful vacation, swimming right out back, walking for miles on the beach, watching the sunsets on the lanai, and basically kicking back and relaxing. We plan to return, and will tell all our friends and family, this is the place to stay!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

There is a GREAT Indian restaurant (Monsoon India) right downstairs, delicious. Road to Hana was awesome, and not nearly as scary as the guidebooks make it sound. Thank you for providing the guide book and CD on the road. All the guidebooks were extremely helpful. Haleakala Sunrise was beautiful, Paia town very nice, Lahaina is artificial. We just had to let you know that your place was absolutely perfect. Several times we said to ourselves, we could not have done any better. When you said don't pack anything extra, I wish I would have listened. You were exactly right. Everything we needed was already there. We've shown many pictures and told many people about your place. So don't be surprised to see some more Southern Illinois people headed your way. I know your busy and I won't take up anymore of your time. We just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed the stay there. We're already talking about a return trip in the future. Once again we'll be staying at the Menehune Shores Condo in Kihei, #416. This condo was everything and more that the listing description describes. We enjoyed the view from the lanai every morning, and we watched the whales and the sunsets from the lenai and the roof top in the evenings. The tile floors make for easy clean up and give this unit a modern look and feel. The condo was clean and had all the amenities we needed. The kitchen was updated and the appliances were great. We enjoyed the pool, walks on the beach and the overall location to activities like scuba diving and snorkeling right in front of the condo. Lahaina has a comedy / magic show called Warren and Annabelle's that was very entertaining. I would recommend this unit to family and friends. Gayle's place was excellent, with a central Kihei location near many fabulous beaches. It had everything we needed to enjoy Maui to the fullest. Kitchen was modern and well equipped. Rooftop bbq's were a great place to cook and meet other Canadians escaping from winter. Gayle also provided good advice on sightseeing and local attractions. Everything we needed to see and do was very close by. The "old" traditional Lahaina Luau had very good food & entertainment. Other good stops would be Stella Blues Cafe and Jawz (fish tacos). The snorkel trip to Molokini was very worthwhile. The photos Gayle has posted are very accurate. The lanai was simply fantastic and needs to be experienced. We'll never forget waking up that first morning and seeing our the local sunrise after a long flight from Canada. Sunsets & whalewatching were also special treat @ Menehune Shores in January. The peace and quiet of Kihei suited us perfectly. We will definitely come back and stay here on our next trip to Maui.Recommended for: Romantic getaway

We were so happy to land in Maui and even happier when we got to our accomodations. Great beaches all around and the view from the condo was wonderful. We saw turtles and whales. The snorkeling is not real good in front of the condo unless you like turtles. There are plenty of these. Two must sees are the aquarium right up the road and Warren and Annabelle's magic show in Lahaina--get tickets for the magic show ahead of time. The condo itself is modern with new furniture. Lots of fans. Everything was provided for cooking. The elevator saved on legs and we enjoyed driving to different sites and the beaches on the way to Lahaina. You can not miss for a nice place to stay for the price. We loved it and did not want to come home!! And , you cook park right out in front. Shopping carts provided ti haul your groceries upstairs. Beach chairs, umbrella, lots of towells, and ice chest provided.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had our honeymoon in this beautiful condo and couldn't have asked for more. The owners said we would love it and they were right! The kitchen, (we enjoy cooking) had everything needed to make great meals, and preparing on granite counters, while I watched the ocean, was just great. We also used the gas BBQ's but brought the food back to our private lanai. There was no lack of privacy and romance in this unit. One can feel so close to nature when residing here. Close to restaurants, wonderful beaches, and shopping. Safeway is just 1 mile south of the unit, and they have a great selection of seafood and wine. Ceiling fans cool you off with no problem, and we left the floor to ceiling doors open 24/7. I felt like we were living outside, which felt very special to me since we are from Canada. It was truly a spectacular place to stay for our beginning life together. We'll be back for some anniversaries.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Thanks for a wonderful holiday at your condo Gayle, we enjoyed every moment. Breakfast on the lanai was the perfect way to start our days. The end of day sunsets on the lanai with the waves as background music, was absolutely superb. BBQ upstairs on the roof was very convenient. We found this condo to be quiet, peaceful, and furnished with everything you need. Make sure to drive to Hana and the seven pools, Drive to the summit of Haleakala on a clear morning and you can see the Big Island from there (dress warmly). The drive past Wailea to the lava fields was incredible, great photos of waves crashing on the rocks. We did lots of snorkeling, sat in the sun, and had a great trip to Molokini (which I noticed you can see from the lanai). Thank you for the Hawaiian books and the collection of DVD's to enjoy. This condo has it all, we have stayed in many places over the years, this is the BEST. We can highly recommend!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We couldn't be happier in this condo, which we rented recently from the owners. It's a beautiful unit, that just really felt like the perfect Hawaiian home. From the moment we arrived, we felt like we were in paradise watching the waves and sunsets from our private lanai. The location was ideal also, we could walk on the beach out front, or drive a few miles to experience more options. The local Safeway and Long's Drugs is only a mile south, as well as lots of fun restaurants. Try the great breakfast at Fred's just a few miles south. If you look in the guidebooks, there is a buy one get one free before 9am. The vegetarian omlette was superb. When we return to Maui, we will be going back to this unit, it was so hard to leave this place, that I keep a picture of the view from the lanai, on my refrigerator. I would recommend to all of you out there, looking for a clean, well maintained, condo on the beach. Thank you Gayle.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Some of our wedding party came over to say goodbye (as they were from the mainland and we got married in Maui), they were all so impressed, and wished they had stayed here. The unit has it all, DVD's, Hawaiian books, and lots of special touches and is impeccably clean and decorated. The best is the sound of the ocean, sunsets on the lanai, and long walks on the beach. There is a restaurant on property, with great Thai food, as well as lots of restaurants close by, including Roy's (which is only 1 mile south). Great Safeway Marketplace only a mile away too, if you want to cook in this kitchen. The unit was stocked with everything from beach chairs, to spices for cooking, and cooler for the beach. Owners are very responsive, and I would recommend this place to all with no hesitation. In fact, I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else, when we return.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We have stayed at this condo twice in the last two years, once in July 2008 and again in January 2009. Both times we were delighted. The property was clean and well maintained. In January we could actually watch whales from the lanai! Bring good binoculars for an even better view. We would definitely recommend to friends. It’s best for no more than two people. When we go back to Maui, this is the first place we will check to see if it’s available.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.

Love this condo, stayed at the West end our previous trip, and now realize we like this area so much better. Weather was great, view amazing, and this condo had everything and more! Walked on the beach most mornings before heading out to check out shops, and other beaches in Wailea. Ate at Fat Daddy's Smokehouse for great BBQ, Fred's for Tues night Taco's, Greek Bistro, Longhi's and Stella Blues. Try the restaurant downstairs at the condo, if you like delicious Indian food! Pretty convenient too, just down the elevator and you are eating oceanfront on property, and being served!! Rent snorkel gear from Maui Dive...they have prescription goggles!! Drive to Paia to watch the surfers, great fun. When we left here, we went to Gayle's condo in KONA. Thanks for sharing this breathtaking unit with us. We'll be back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We rented this condo, directly from the owners and were so thrilled when we arrived. You always wonder if the pictures are true to life, and this one is even better than we imagined. Besides being the perfect location, for quiet evenings, yet close to everything, we found that we saved money by eating in on the beautiful lanai. Costco is right near the airport, which is only 10 miles away, and there are grocery stores within a 5 min drive. I recommend spending a little more to get a room like this one, and savings on restaurants. The gas grills are oceanside, or up on the roof, take your pick, we tried both. If windy, it's best on the oceanside, right out by the pool, but if calm, you can't beat the 360 degree view while you barbeque on the roof. Sunset is particularly a great time to be up there. Gayle sent us her favorite things to do on the island, and that was so helpful. We also enjoyed just exploring and finding our own special spots, which we noted in her guestbook. This place is clean, lovely inside, and has everything we needed and more. Don't both bringing books about what to see, they are all there for your use. There is even a collection of DVD's to view, should you decide you want to do that. We did splurge one night and go to Roy's, just down the street, the food is superb, but pricey. I would recommend this unit to everyone coming to MAUI. Stay out of the rat race of Lahaina, just go up there for a day to take a look around. Weather is better in Kihei too. Thank you to the Smiths, for sharing their home with us, we'll be back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

It would be hard to find a better view, of the ocean, than from this balcony. We were there in Febuary and there was very few times that you could not see whales. The evening sunsets were like what you would see in magazines. The accomodations were clean and well maintained. Everything you would need for your time there was supplied. We plan on using this facility again.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
