Our condo, "Beach Haven", is part of the Sunset Cottages Condominium development, a small complex of only 19 units with a pool and a recently improved and landscaped direct (no roads to cross) access (see photo) to the beach. Sugar white beaches and emerald green water are within 100 yards (A quick, two minute stroll).
Once on the beach, take advantage of the free beach service(one umbrella with two lounge chairs), relax and take in the sun and the waves. This 1,056 sq ft condo is ONLY 2 MILES (a 5 minute drive) FROM THE EMERALD COAST CONFERENCE CENTER and just 6 miles from Destin.
"Beach Haven" is located on beautiful Okaloosa Island, which is a section of Santa Rosa Island located directly south of Ft Walton Beach (SEE THE MAP IN THE PHOTO SECTION). Okaloosa Island is a quiet, family-oriented, low density beach area. Pets are NOT allowed and No Smoking.
This third floor (and top floor) unit has two beautifully decorated levels. Escape upstairs to your private master bedroom with a king size bed and full bath with a balcony overlooking the pool. On the first level is the kitchen, living/dining area, bedroom, bathroom, and hallway bunk beds. French doors lead to balconies from the bedrooms and living area. Enjoy ocean breezes and views of the Gulf.
For your convenience and enjoyment there is a washer and dryer in the unit, three TVs (a DVD/VCR player is connected to the living room TV; the other TV's are connected to VCRs), as well as an ironing board and iron. The fully furnished kitchen features a toaster, coffee maker, electric can opener, blender, and microwave. There is also an assortment of games and videos for all ages. Sleeping accommodations include one King, one Queen, one Queen sleeper sofa, and two twins (bunk beds).

Why the Owner Chose Sunset Cottages
We chose to buy both our retirement home and our vacation rental condo on Okaloosa Island for the same reasons. Okaloosa Island has the beautiful snow white sand beaches. Under the covenants no building can be more that 75 feet high - this restriction has resulted in much lower density. Also, the access road to the Island is a dead end road which means a lot less traffic. In addition, the beach is public and there are many public access points - including one next to our condo - to the beach. Bottom line: Beautiful, uncrowded beaches, low density and low traffic.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo
We provide a free beach service (March 1 thru Oct 31) which sets-up an umbrella with two lounge chairs every day for our guests. Also, we provide a WiFi hi-speed internet connection. We do not charge a cleaning fee. In addition we have a DVD collection of over 60 movie titles available for our guests. Also, we provide a good supply of paper products, soaps, detergents and plastic bags for the convenience of our guests. In addition we provide a good supply of beach toys (boogie boards, shovels, rakes, buckets, sand molds) for the children. Finally - but not least - we live 4 blocks from our condo and are immediately available for any needs they might have.

Jim & Shirley Simpson. We are retired Air Force officers who moved to Florida in 1998. During her nursing career with the Air Force Shirley was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base and fell in love with the Fort Walton Beach/Destin area. Prior to moving to Florida we lived in Austin, Texas. We live full time on Okaloosa Island. In 2000 we purchased our vacation rental condo (which we have named "Beach Haven"). We live about 4 blocks from the condo and manage it ourselves. Our goal is to give our guests an enjoyable experience each and every time.

Beach Haven is our family's #1 Pick! Can't find a condo that has these views and this close to the beach for any less. Jim is so easy to work with and makes you feel right at home, which made our trip Priceless!!! Just booked another week for 2011 at Beach Haven! Can't wait to get back down there!

Our family very much enjoyed our stay at Beach Haven. Jim was excellent to deal with, we met with him when we got to the condo and he was available to answer all our questions. The condo was just what we expected, clean an well maintained, plenty of towels for our group, we had six people. The washer and dryer in the unit was a big plus. It was just a short walk to the beach, and even with a building between us and the beach there was a great view of the beach from the balcony. We were even provided with beach service-two chairs and an umbrella daily. We evidently got there just in time for some great weather and we did enjoy it. Our favorite restaurants in the area were Helenbacks (great pizza-the kids talked us into going there twice), Floyds (all you can eat shrimp-they brought out more than we could eat) and in Destin Pompano Joes (always a favorite of ours). We would definitely recommend this condo to friends and family-and would come back again ourselves.

Short walk to beach. Well equipped & everything working. Nice pool with lounge area and charcoal grills. Tom Thumbs just down road for you quick stop needs. Great movie selection. Tv in bedrooms. Deck off from both bedrooms and kitchen. Kitchen is well stocked with cooking ware. Destin just 6 miles or so down the road if you need entertainment or dining needs. I suggest Hogsbreath. We enjoyed every bit of our stay at Beach Haven. Jim is very nice and even called part way through the week to see if we needed anything. He was very informative with everything about the condo and anything in the area including directions! The only inconvienince was the 3 flights of stairs. Still a great place to stay! I would stay there again and strongly recommend it to anyone.
