This amazing property was named, Milla la Maria, after the owner and retired International Relations professor, Roberto E. de la Ossa T,’ s late mother.
Professor de la Ossa fell in love with the location back in the mid seventies. He purchased the property in the early 80’s and over the course of twenty five years has not only established a magnificent vacation home for himself and his family, but has recently opened up the possibility for travelling families, groups, and individuals to rent and enjoy “La Casona” (as this unique land mark is fondly referred to by locals and outsiders who have had the opportunity to spend some time at Milla La Marìa).
Milla La Maria is a 12,000 square meters property located in a wonderful and quiet residential neighborhood 1 km north of the town centre and a few hundred meters South of the well-known Resorts of Flor Blanca and Milarepa.
Those who stay at Milla La Marìa enjoy complete privacy. The property is gated with a long driveway that extends from the gate to a large circular private parking area located just off the entry to La Casona. The home is surrounded by magnificent gardens and it is the only rental home on the estate grounds. The property stretches from the main public road to the beach. Milla La Marìa is a truly exotic retreat surrounded by beautiful Costa Rican flora, nestled among the legendary Pochote trees of the lush tropical forest of the Costa Rica Northern Pacific Coast.
La Casona:
Upon entering La Casona, one faces a fantastic open leisure living Estancia area [by far, the favorite area of the house!] This area acts as a leisure/ living area. It uniquely creates the ambiance of timeless lounging in the tropics with its rich, ceramic tile throughout. It comes fully furnished with 2 separate seating areas, 2 hammocks, 4 traditional Costa Rican, wood-carved rocking chairs, a distinct 4-piece seating ensemble, a cocktail table, 2 sofas, and a detached guest bathroom.
This area is adjacent to the pool. This unique indoor open terrace has a distinctive Costa Rican décor, yet features many cultural artifacts acquired by the owner as well as a notorious and large collection of wooden sculptures that the owner has patiently carved throughout the years.
Adjoining the leisure area is the kitchen and dining area. This area is the “heart” of the beach house, with a staircase leading to the sleeping quarters on the second and third floor loft. The dining room table seats 10. And the kitchen comes fully equipped with 2 full-size refrigerators, an oven with stove, sink, microwave, toaster oven, blender, coffee maker, plates & utensils, and a pantry. A CD player is also available.
As one reaches the second floor adjacent to the master and guest bedrooms there is a open study area consisting of a twin bed, a ceiling fan, and a writing desk & chair. This study area is perfectly suited for the travelling student (or computer guru) in your party. We recommend that small children not sleep alone in the study area (as the twin bed is not far from the staircase leading back down to the kitchen on the first floor). One also finds the staircase leading to the Loft.
The 3rd floor loft provides 2 twin beds complete with a ceiling fan. The stairs accessing this floor are somewhat steep; and we recommend that these sleeping quarters not be reserved for the elderly or small children. These accommodations are perfect for the travellers in your party who prefer some seclusion from the rest of the household.
Master bedroom
The master bedroom consists of an extraordinarily spacious bedroom with a king size bed, one twin bed, and 2 ceiling fans, a private bathroom, an open covered patio/leisure area furnished with a sofa, 2 seats, and a cocktail table a balcony, with 2 chairs and a hammock, and cable (Direct TV), and internet access.
A second bedroom.
This area offers a spacious bedroom furnished with one king and one twin-size bed, a private bathroom, ceiling fans, and a cozy kitchenette. The kitchenette, consisting of a small refrigerator, stove, sink, coffeemaker, toaster, and three-person dinette (including plates and utensils), is set in an open and airy, covered balcony immediately adjacent to the sleeping quarters. The balcony is a perfect backdrop for enjoying meals and conversation with the lush and serene landscape inherent to the tropics of Costa Rica. The bedroom has a private entrance that is just a few yards from the pool and a hammock for those times when relaxation calls.
The Right Wing of La Casona:
The Right Wing quarters have two suites. Each of them include Air Conditioning, , private bathrooms, full kitchenettes, dining area for four. The second floor suite has one queen and two twin beds, while the first floor suite has one queen bed. While these suites enjoy all of the benefits (see below), they are also completely secluded and private; an experience of solitude and peace. The upper suite boast a private balcony overlooking the property’s lush garden and the lower studio employs a small patio area for relaxing in a hammock. Each suite can also enjoy the choice of having a private entrance as well as entrance from the main house. |
