Milla La Maria is a 12,000 square meters property located in a wonderful and quiet residential neighborhood 1 km north of the town centre and a few hundred meters South of the well-known Resorts of Flor Blanca, Milarepa, Red Palms to mention some.
Those who stay at Milla La Marìa enjoy complete privacy. The property is gated with a long driveway that extends from the Front Gate to a large circular private parking area located just off the entry to La Casona. The home is surrounded by magnificent gardens and it is the only rental home on the estate grounds.
The property stretches from the main public road to the beach. Milla La Marìa is a truly exotic retreat surrounded by beautiful Costa Rican flora, with legendary trees of pochote, malinche coral, almendro, Ilán Ilán,and higuerón as well as many tropical fruit trees particularly banana, platano, coco, mamón, cas, carambola , mango, fruta de pan , guayaba, Aguacate, limón and naranja ácida. Most attractive for visitors is the large collection of Heliconias grown on the property grounds and the impresive
number of different kinds of tropical flowers.
La Casona:
Upon entering La Casona, one faces a open leisure living Estancia area [by far, the favorite area of the house!] This area acts as a leisure/ living area. It uniquely creates the ambiance with ceramic tile throughout. It is fully furnished with separate seating areas, hammocks, traditional Costa Rican wood-carved rocking chairs, cocktail table, sofas, and a detached guest bathroom.
This area is adjacent to the pool. This unique indoor open terrace has a distinctive Costa Rican décor, yet features many cultural artifacts acquired by the owner as well as a notorious and large collection of wooden sculptures that the owner has patiently carved throughout the years.
Adjoining the leisure area is the kitchen and dining area. This area is the “heart” of the beach house, with a staircase leading to the sleeping quarters (master bedroom and both right and left wings suites and to the third floor loft). The dining room table seats 10. And the kitchen comes fully equipped with a full-size refrigerator, an oven with stove, sink, microwave, toaster oven, blender, coffee maker, plates & utensils, and a pantry.
As one reaches the second floor one faces an open leisure area overlook by a 3rd floor loft.
The 3rd floor open loft provides 2 twin beds complete with a ceiling fan. The stairs accessing this floor are somewhat steep; and we recommend that these sleeping quarters not be reserved for the elderly or small children.
Master bedroom
The master bedroom consists of an extraordinarily spacious bedroom with a king size bed, and a twin bed, Air Conditioning and 2 ceiling fans, a private bathroom, fully furnished with cable TV and internet access.
The Left-Wing of la Casona.
The Left -Wing quarters have one suite. This bedroom includes Air Conditioning, private bathroom. This second floor suite has one queen bed. It is completely secluded and private; an experience of solitude and peace. This suite boasts a private balcony overlooking the property’s lush garden. It also enjoys the choice of having a private entrance as well as entrance from the main house.
The Right- Wing of La Casona:
The Right -Wing quarters have two suites. The upstairs suite offers a spacious bedroom furnished with one king, one queen and one twin size bed. This bedroom include Air Conditioning, private bathroom, full kitchenette (including plates and utensils), dining area for four, refrigerator, sink, coffeemaker, toaster, and microwave. The balcony is a perfect backdrop for enjoying meals and conversation with the lush and serene landscape inherent to the tropics of Costa Rica. It also enjoys the choice of having a private entrance as well as entrance from the main house.
The downstairs suite is completely furnished and has one queen size bed, AC and a private bathroom

Wonderful Santa Teresa property!
Wonderful Santa Teresa property!

This property is absolutely gorgeous and I highly recommend staying here. The photos do a good job of showing the rooms, the pool, and all the amenities. The home felt very safe and secure, and the layout (gates, fences, etc.) helps keep uninvited people off the property -- we never had any issues during our stay. The kitchen is well appointed so that you can cook nice meals. There is a super market (Super La Hacienda) across the road so you don't have to drive when you need to pick up food, and Melania (house keeper) gave us some fresh eggs from her chickens for our breakfasts which was a special treat. There are also plenty of good restaurants in Santa Teresa if you don't feel like cooking. The house comfortably slept 8 of us, and has plenty of room for multiple families. The pool (and pool cabana) is wonderful, and it is cleaned at least once per day. Melania is such a fantastic house keeper and works very hard keeping the house and grounds clean, so you spend your time relaxing and enjoying your vacation instead of doing dishes and laundry, but she doesn't speak any English so brush up on your Spanish if you want to talk with her more than basic communication. We spent most of our time at the beach, and there are some nice trees with shade so you don't have to be in the sun all of the time. The surf break out front is fantastic -- between La Lora and Roca Mar, with plenty of good rights and lefts. The beach is so large and beautiful and is all white sand with some shells for collecting down by the water's edge. We saw wild horses running along the beach during our stay, and also saw howler monkeys up in the trees almost every day. Lots of wild life and beautiful flowers all around the house -- the house feels like it is just part of the natural environment rather than being built on top of it. Montezuma is a fun place to go for a hike up to the waterfalls and a swim. The Cabo Blanco nature reserve is a short drive away and has so much to see. You can go on a fishing trip out of Mal Pais (end of the road) and catch your dinner -- we caught 7 tuna! Roberto is a wonderful host and will go out of his way to help you and make sure your stay is perfect. He made the entire process of renting the home easy and stress free. I can't wait to come back and stay at Roberto's home for our next Santa Teresa vacation.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers.

What a great property! Roberto was gracious and ready to assist us. He gave us a tour on arrival and called once to see if everything was ok and called us on the day we left to thank us and see if we needed transportation. The housekeeping staff was outstanding. Our days were as follows: Mornings - coffee, long beach walk, beach relaxing Late morning - pool Noon - lunch at many different establishments - Chicken Joes and Habaneros were our favorites Afternoon - pool and then walking the beach at low tide Evenings - dinner - Florblanca (1k north), Al chile viola (50 yards down the road), and casa del mar - we ordered pizza from Tomatoes 3x via delivery, the margarita with extra sauce was great - we ordered two ATVs for the week for our personal transportation and they were $100 per day. Well worth the money and a lot of fun. We drove them to Montuzuma Falls one day and had lunch afterwards. The store outside the gate was very sufficient for all of our needs. You read some reviews where people talk about the dust from the roads. It was summer with not a lot of rain. So, if you like a concrete resort with 1000 other guests Santa Teresa is not for you. If you want a memorable vacation come here.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

OK, we don't know how to thank owner Roberto for all he did for us...sending a box of Ghiradelli chocolates just wouldn't cut it. (Besides, they'd melt.) First, the place: read all other reviews and you've got ours. It was Paradise! Our own pristine pool, our own beachfront, our own bedroom suites...definitely a perfect place for a large or extended family or group of close friends. With Melania, the lovely and friendly housekeeper, we were truly spoiled. If you like animals, a charming dog and cat or two wander in occasionally. (If you don't like them, they'll go away, too.) The open-air living room alone is worth going for...I loved that tropical feel of the breezes blowing through. The house has so many interesting objects and artworks, the kitchen is well-equipped, the A/C in the bedrooms works great, etc. etc. etc. But Roberto: there aren't many owners like him! He quickly discerned that we were clueless (working right up to vaca) and met us at the airport to direct us to the ferry. He even drove us to our rental car place! (Santa Teresa is out of the way, off the beaten path--Fantastic. But, unlike us, most of you will know where you're going.) Not only did Roberto help us upon arrival, but when we were departing, we left behind one of our packed suitcases. We didn't even know it, as we weren't checking email, phone, or texts. Roberto tried to contact us. Failing that, the man arranged to get the suitcase to a small airport and then flown to the airport at San Jose--complicated. He drove to the San Jose airport to get the suitcase, and then met us at the rental car place with our it personally! Amazing. So, for now, this is our thanks. Until we hit the lottery or can think of something as wonderfully unique as Roberto. Muchas gracias to him! We'd go back in a heartbeat...try this place out. You won't regret it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Driving to Santa Teresa is quite the hike- I would suggest taking the small regional plane that lands in Tambor and then driving- The house is about 3 miles from the center of town. It was really hot when we stayed. The pool was great and the ocean is so close to the house. I would recommend that you rent an ATV if you want to check out all that this area has to offer. Speaking Spanish is a must. The house was clean and spacious. It has plenty of room for two families- So happy that there was air conditioning in every room. The housekeeper Mileania is there all the time. She will clean each day and seems to be on the grounds a lot. She speaks no english. There is one supermarket right across the street from the house. Prices are not cheap. Best to try try Super Ronny up the road. My overall impression of the home was good- The price seemed a bit much for what it had to offer.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children.

Hola! Where do I begin? “Milla La Maria” has something for everyone. Tranquillity with a book and a nap in a hammock, adventure with great tropical hikes, grandiose waterfalls and coastal outlooks which photos just can’t live up to, or perhaps you enjoy fruity umbrella cocktails while tanning by the private pool and cabana, or simply looking for some of the world’s most consistent surf to shred; this is the place for you! My girlfriend, myself and 5 friends from all across Canada stayed for 6 nights, relishing every minute of it. The property is vast and loaded with charm, culture and all the comforts of home, with great Wi-Fi service to stay connected or research your next Costa Rican Adventure on your laptop or tablet computer. Located near the North end of the main road in Santa Teresa, once through the large security gate the property is far enough from the main road and also from the beautiful beach that there are no concerns with privacy, yet the soothing sound of the waves rolling in is always within earshot. I must add that the pool and beach were utilized to the max as the sun was blazing every day during our entire stay. The house is literally a 30 second walk from “La Hacienda”, which is a great store for all the food, toiletries, and of course beverages needed to enjoy your stay. Just a short stroll or drive down the main road and there are plenty of excellent restaurants, pubs and shops to experience the local cuisine and culture. The owner (Roberto) was very accommodating in setting up the rental, helping with directions, and making sure we were satisfied during our entire visit. Mucho Gracias Roberto! One of my favorite parts of the rental was Melania and her family. Our first morning at the house we gathered in the main kitchen and a few of us prepared a huge breakfast for the group, and the cooks said “we did the cooking, the rest of you guys can do the dishes”. Then before we had the chance to begin to scrub a pan, Melania zoomed in and cleaned all of the dishes, along with our laundry, and the rest of the property. This occurs daily! Mucho Mucho Mucho Gracias to Melania and her Family for the amazing hospitality. I absolutely recommend this property for anyone looking to vacation in Costa Rica; whether it be romantic couples, groups of friends, or families or any mixture. As I said there is something for everyone at this little piece of paradise. Pura Vida to all. Sincerely, Shaun from CanadaRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We returned this year for another great stay at Milla la Maria in Santa Teresa. This year we found several updates made to the house - new floors and bathrooms, as well as an expansion of the plants on the property. As with previous stays at Milla la Maria, we felt very safe and secure at the house. Melania the housekeeper/caretaker of the property adds to this security as well as the gate access on the beach which deters beachgoers from thinking the property is access to the road. We were not disappointed to find that there was no expansion of new stores or houses around the property. It remains on one of the best stretches of beach, away from the crowds but within walking distance to the grocery and restaurants. This year, our group rented ATV's and drove along the road leading to Cabuya - along the coastline where we stopped at secluded beaches to snorkel, ending up in Montezuma for drinks and a meal at a fantastic outdoor restaurant overlooking the sea (Playa de las Artistas). Santa Teresa, Milla la Maria, and the people who own and take care of this property draw us back year after year. Milla la Maria remains one of the most unique properties in Santa Teresa - a place full of charm and tranquility that allows a person staying there to submit to the laid back way of life in Costa Rica. Pura Vida my friends. See you next year!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

I found this place to be a little slice of heaven. It was much nicer in person, believe it or not! It was a beautiful sprawling estate with very nice rooms, kitchen, patio, cabana & pool. The on-site family that works on the property were very accommodating, kind and efficient. They did our dishes, made the beds and were helpful with Santa Teresa questions. The location is on one end of the town, which was perfect. It was far enough out of the way of the riff raft, yet close enough to be in the heart of the town and close to everything. Huge bonus, it's across the street from a grocery store! On the backside it is on a beautiful piece of well kept land & a nice location on the beach. We all fell in love with this house and will definitely be returning!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

A group of seven of us from Canada stayed at Milla la Maria for 11 nights and thouroughly enjoyed the property, its charm and warmth. The owner (Roberto) was kind enough to meet us on our arrival and gave us a tour of the house and some tips. He also lent us his local phone to make local calls to make dinner reservations and organize taxis (which are not easy to hail from the street) - thank goodness for that phone - it made life much simpler. Wi Fi worked very well around the house and given we were all technically connected, it was very good to have it available. The cleaning lady/ grounds keeper was very friendly and helpful in every regard. Although she speaks no English, she more than made up for it with her willingness to assist in any way we needed. The fact that I spoke some Spanish made it easier to easily communicate with her. We were pleased with the owner's follow up when we had a problem with air conditioning one day and when there was a burst pipe on another. They were all very helpful in fixing issues as quickly as they could. They also helped us on the evenings we needed assistance with the wood burning BBQ by preparing wood and helping us light it. The house has 4 separate bedrooms with bath - each with its own unique style and character - allowing plenty of privacy for individual couples or singles while also providing great common areas (main kithcen, portico and poolside patio) for all to come together. We heard from several locals about planned road improvements in the area - the roads will be being treated with a special coating to cut down on dust over the next couple of months which will make walking to nearby restaurants and shopping a more pleasant experience. The house is well located - far enough from the beach and the road to make it a very secure and private location. We could still hear the ocean waves from our room to lull us to sleep at night and feel like we were in our own hidden piece of paradise. Suggestion: provide a travellers' directory with taxis, restaurants reviews, menus and pricing, grocery stores with specialties. Super Rony 1 has by far widest selection. The Super Hacienda across the street is limited. Many local restaurants only accept cash. The 2 bank ATMs in Malpais (dispensing colones and US $'s usually run our of cash early on the weekend - so get your cash on weekdays). Suggested eating places: El Chile Viola, Pasta Basta, Soda Tequisa, Brisas al Mar, Otro Lado.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Where do I start? Casa Milla la Maria was an unforgettable experience and we hope to return some day. Our group consisted of My wife and and I, our 5 year old daughter and 2 other couples. Although we never personally met Roberto (the owner), he was very helpful via the email correspondence and graciously offered a reduction as one of the couples that were to be traveling with us had to cancel last minute due to a medical emergency. Thank you Roberto! Maylanya was our house keeper and she made the experience even better! She did the dishes every day, laundered our clothes, kept the house immaculate as well as the grounds. Thank you Maylanya!!! The property is beach front with private access and set back along a path from the beach. You cannot see the ocean from the house but you can hear the roar of the waves and it's a short walk to the beach via a jungle path. Very private and very secluded. We used the pool everyday and our daughter especially loved it. The house layout is unique, spacious and fun. The house has 4 spacious bedrooms. Each unique and very charming. Ours had two beds and it's own kitchen. There is a grocery store across the street which was very convenient. We cooked most of our meals at the home but there are also plenty of great restaurants nearby to choose from. The caretakers called taxis for us when we needed one. The home is on the near north end of Santa Teresa so it was quiet and very secluded yet close enough to walk to some good cafes and bars. We also enjoyed our surf lessons at Costa Rica Surf and SUP - also walking distance. we enjoyed great surf right if front of the home. All the shops and restaurants take US dollars and It helps to speak spanish. Santa Teresa is off the beaten path and very laid back. The main attraction in this village is definitely surfing. Make sure to stop at the one of the 2 banks when you arrive into town and get cash. The banks are about a 10 minute taxi ride. We hope to return to Santa Teresa soon and when we do, we will definitely plan at staying at Milla la Maria again!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

After seeing the pictures and reading the reviews of Milla La Maria, we had very high expectations. We were not disappointed. We stayed 10 nights with another family in the house and thoroughly enjoyed it. The house is in a perfect spot on the beautiful beach just outside of the busiest section of town, far enough away to escape some of the noise (and dust) of town, but close enough to walk to the market across the street or a little further into the area with shops and restaurants. The house sits halfway between the road and the beach on a large, beautifully landscaped lot. It's just a short walk down the path to the beach. When it got too hot outside, we came back up to the house and enjoyed the big pool which was very clean and refreshing. The house itself is very unusual (in a good way) and offers 4 different air conditioned sleeping rooms with nice beds and linens. The kitchen area opens up into the covered patio area. These areas have ceiling fans and lots of space to relax in one of the many couches, chairs or hammocks. There is a tv set up in the patio area as well, with several channels broadcasting in English for us non-Spanish speakers. The daily maid service was very nice and Melania and her family take very good care of the house and yard. They also did laundry for us throughout our stay. Dealing with the owner of the house (Roberto) was also a great experience. He called me after I sent him an email before we booked the house and answered all my questions. He was very accommodating of some last minute changes we had which was very much appreciated. He also called us while we were staying at the house just to make sure everything was ok and that we were having a good time. Thanks very much, Roberto. We hope to return again sometime soon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
