Brilliant location and lovely apartment

The apartment has a superb location, right on the corner of Haight and Ashbury Streets with it's fantastic array of quirky shops. David and Karen could not have been more helpful or accommodating and the bottle of wine was a really nice (and very drinkable!) touch. The pictures don't really do the apartment justice with the lounge being a fantastic place to relax and the bedrooms being roomy and comfortable. The kitchen has everything you could want with the bonus of a laundry room just off it. Public transport is within 1 minute of the door, taking you right to the heart of the city. There's an excellent grocery shop just across the road and a good selection of bars and restaurants within 5 minutes walk if you don't fancy venturing too far. We would definitely stay here again and would have done this year, if it hadn't already been booked up. It's impossible to recommend this apartment too highly!
Owner response:You are more than kind, Ian. It's guests like you that make it all worthwhile.

My husband and I stayed in this beautiful Victorian for a week while visiting our son for his graduation from AAU. We were extremely happy with the location, had no problem street parking as we did have a rental car, although it was not necessary for sight seeing in the city. Local transportation is available and affordable. The garden, the kitchen, the laundry, the separate private restroom was really something in design, and the den were all above average and extremely comfortable. Our bedroom was in the back over a lovely garden and the second bedroom, which we used only 3 nights when our son chose to sleep over with us, was at the opposite end of the house adding privacy between the rooms. This was a wonderful advantage the owners offered. Both beds were high end hotel comfortable and the windows can be closed off from light. You could easily be comfortable with four people and still have space and privacy for all. We just cannot say enough about the comfort and the quality of having your own Victorian with space in a great historic neighborhood. We did not mind the street activity as it part of the Haight Ashbury Scene and we found many quaint places to visit within walking distance. The market was our favorite! The owners were charming and accommodating to our every need. The internet was greatly appreciated and the warm touches David and Karen prepared for us were greatly appreciated. We cannot thank you enough except to say that we look forward to returning soon as your home is our first choice. Once again, we thank you David and Karen, and we highly recommend your VRBO!
Owner response:Karen and I are delighted you enjoyed your stay and deeply appreciate your comments regarding the flat and the neighborhood. You were the perfect guests and we look forward to seeing you again. Stay well in Caracas. Karen and David

Home away from home, in this lovely historic turn of the century Victorian! Comfortable and fully equipped, public transportation or taxis readily available. Walk to Golden Gate Park. My children and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to San Francisco and staying in David and Karen's vacation rental was the icing on the cake. Thank you for all your personal touches!
Owner response:Thank you so much for the kind words, Teri. Karen and I are delighted when guests truly enjoy the flat and this wonderful city.

My in-laws stayed here for a few of weeks over christmas just after we had our baby; we live right across the street so it was very convenient, everyone had plenty of space. They really enjoyed their stay and liked the apartment. This is a fun part of town, lots of amenities (8 coffee shops within a few blocks, bars, restaurants, bong-shops, hippies, etc). Go to Deluxe on the corner and have Giovanni's pizza and a Spa Collins. Right near the park, plenty of buses and muni downtown. There are some scruffy kids around on Haight Street (age-old tradition, they come from boring towns the midwest and think the streets are paved with green) but they're completely harmless. Depends what you like; personally I've lived around here for a decade and it's my favorite part of my favorite city. Dress warm, especially in 'summer' ;-)

If you're looking to stay in San Fran stay HERE!!!! My husband and I had the most amazing time in the apartment. 38 footsteps to the corner of Haight-Ashbury crossroads this was absolutely ideal for our first visit to San Fran. The bus to downtown is just down the street which made it incredibly convenient for exploring the wonderful sights. As soon as we arrived it felt as though I had come home- wonderfully appointed with every kitchen utensil you could ever require, a very comfortable lounge room with a romantic fireplace and the bed was so comfy we were in danger of not getting up each day!!! Wonderful decor on every wall and small gestures that made the whole stay such a pleasure. We will be back on our next trip without a doubt!!! The price is so reasonable for what you get- your own little piece of San Francisco !!!!! Each and every time I wrote or spoke to the owners I was impressed with how thoughtful and thorough they were. 5 star accommodation no doubt about it- I can say no wrong about this incredible place!!!!

My husband and I stayed here in September and we couldn't have been happier! The apartment is very charming and extremely clean. The pictures don't begin to show how really pretty this place is. The convenience to the bus lines and stores was also great and we were able to navigate around the city really easily. The buses were easy to figure out and the drivers were always nice about directions, and for $2.00 and a transfer you can't beat the price! The market on Haight St was great and had most things you need for your stay. I highly recommend this apartment.

My wife and I stayed at David and Karen’s apartment for eight days for New Year 2009/2010—the entire experience was great, especially the apartment! The apartment was as described in VRBO—in fact the photos on the site do not do justice to how nice this property actually is. David and Karen were completely unobtrusive, although they are certainly on-site to help with any questions or issues a guest may have. We really appreciated the little touches that put this kind of stay completely apart from the hotel ‘experience’. There was a bottle of wine and fruit to welcome us, which was very much appreciated after the rigors of travelling from Victoria, British Columbia, in addition to floral displays throughout the apartment. The kitchen is fully equipped and we really didn’t need anything else throughout our stay—this is also true of the bathroom, which appears to have been recently renovated—lots of quality towels and a bathroom heater for those (sometime) chilly San Francisco mornings. The bedroom was great—comfortable bed and, again, quality linens and plenty of closet and storage space—it was nice to be in a bedroom that didn’t feel cramped as is often the case, even in so-called ‘suite’ hotels. The bedroom also features a washbasin and electrical outlets adjacent to the sink for hair dryers and shavers. The elegant wood-paneled living room is also very comfortable and features a decent TV, DVD player and a Mac computer with high speed internet access. A very welcome feature is the solid-fuel fireplace supplied with a couple of fire-logs to get things rolling—additional logs can be purchased at the nearby market on Haight St. The location is excellent and very close to ‘all-things Haight’—we like to explore neighborhoods when on vacation and this was one of the more interesting—lots of street scene, decent restaurants and wacky/funky bars. Personal favourites were the Magnolia Brew Pub and for the slightly more adventurous the Gold Cane Cocktail lounge, which is a definite ‘locals’ hangout and is quite friendly to tourists. We also liked the somewhat frenetic, but generally good food and service at Peoples Café and Pork Store—both on Haight Street. The Haight Street Grocery has a great selection and probably fulfills most visitor’s immediate needs, although it is worth taking the number 43 bus to Luckie Supermarket on Fulton St for a more full-service selection—liquor is MUCH cheaper than the liquor stores on Haight—I would advise caution with t

Dear David & Karen: We want to thank you again for everything you did to make our trip to San Francisco so special. We enjoyed our stay so much at your lovely apartment. It was truly our home away from home for a week. The fresh flowers were beautiful and we enjoyed watching new blooms open each day. The wine and fruit were also wonderful. We appreciated all of the great information and books provided in the apartment and enjoyed looking through them each night in front of the fireplace. The location of the apartment was perfect and it was easy to go all over the city by bus. We really enjoyed returning in the evening to our neighborhood shops, restaurants, and "Ben & Jerry's" just out the door. We were a little concerned that the location might be noisy, but it was very peaceful and truly an oasis in the city! We will definitely stay again if we are fortunate enough to be able to return to San Francisco! Debra & Jim Davidson (& Boys)

We absolutely loved the apartment. And, I was so pleased to finally meet you. Emily had already told us you were handsome and charming, but when she told us you said our grand daughter was beautiful, I knew you were a wonderful guy! We, of course want to stay with you whenever we are in San Francisco. We are now trying to co-ordinate a trip now for next year with our special daughter who is a national rep. She's trying to set a national sales meeting in San Francisco. Of course we'll be working with you as soon as she gives us a date. Until then, stay healthy, along with your dear wife, who keeps the apartment pin-clean, welcoming, and comfortable. Thanks to her care, we felt like we were at home.
