My husband and I spend a wonderful 6 days in San Francisco and staying at this flat made it even more enjoyable. Haight Ashbury is truly a colourful neighbourhood and while we were concerned with the number of street youth (etc) at first, they keep to themselves and did not bother us. David was a great host and very helpful with suggestions. The apartment is very close to all amenities and transit (cost $2 to ride the bus). We arrived and it was immaculately clean and although it is an old house, many upgrades have been made to it. Very comfortable to relax in after a long day of sightseeing and If you need anything, popping out to the market is a two minute trip. The hosts live in the building and are very quiet themselves. We'd recommend staying here and would stay again next time we travel to SF.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+.

My wife and I, plus two friends from the UK spent 8 days at David and Karen’s apartment in the Haight in July to celebrate a ‘big’ birthday. We had stayed in the apartment a couple of years ago and our visit this time was as good, if not better. The second bedroom faces Ashbury Street, just past the famous Haight-Ashbury Street sign, so obviously there is some street noise, but nothing that detracted from our stay. As described in my previous rating, there really is nothing missing and the VRBO pictures do not do it justice—immaculately clean and fully equipped. The second bedroom was great and the apartment suited two couples very well—big enough so that you are not tripping over each other, but still very comfortable. Our friends loved it! David is a wonderful host and the complimentary wine and fruit were very welcome! Staying in this apartment is infinitely better than staying in a hotel and as a bonus, much better value. The area itself seems a little more up-market now, but the stalwart restaurants like the Squat and Gobble and the Pork Store are still as ‘Haight’ as ever. We ate at both places, plus the Magnolia Brew Pub and a Puerto Rican restaurant (can’t remember the name…) close to Amoeba Records, which was also great. The expansion of the Haight Street Market is a great addition—excellent cheese and wine selection, plus a take-out deli and great produce, fish and butcher sections. For a great, unpretentious neighbourhood bar, the Golden Cane Cocktail Lounge is our favourite—friendly service, good beer selection and enough ‘busy-ness’ to feel like there is something going on. Again, I highly recommend this property and we hope to return someday soon!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Myself, husband, 10 month old daughter and a friend stayed here for a week and had a fabulous time. Agree wholeheartedly with all the reviews regarding location (is literally 10 metres from the corner of Haight-Ashbury) and how friendly, welcoming and helpful David and Karen were both before we arrived and whilst we were there - including scoring a park for our rental car on our first day. It suited us perfectly as we were visiting friends who lived across the road from Golden Gate Park so we could walk to each others places within 10 minutes. Having a full bathroom, washing machine and kitchen with a 10 month old was also a major drawcard as opposed to staying in a hotel - and having both Haight Market and Wholefoods so close made everything easy. It honestly was like a home away from home and would not hesitate recommending this property to anyone. The only challenge we found was the staircase however we should have spoken to David prior to us arriving about arranging a gate for our little one as she was very much on the move when we were there. It just meant we had to be careful and contain her to the living area - wasn't a problem though as we were rarely in the apartment while she was awake! Location wise we absolutely love the Haight Ashbury area with all the shopping, food and ease of public transport at your doorstep.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much, Michael and Carly (Alexis, too) for the glowing review. It means a lot to us that guests like you enjoy their stays. Incidentally, I have a safety gate to block the stairs for your next visit. Stay well, David.

The apartment has a superb location, right on the corner of Haight and Ashbury Streets with it's fantastic array of quirky shops. David and Karen could not have been more helpful or accommodating and the bottle of wine was a really nice (and very drinkable!) touch. The pictures don't really do the apartment justice with the lounge being a fantastic place to relax and the bedrooms being roomy and comfortable. The kitchen has everything you could want with the bonus of a laundry room just off it. Public transport is within 1 minute of the door, taking you right to the heart of the city. There's an excellent grocery shop just across the road and a good selection of bars and restaurants within 5 minutes walk if you don't fancy venturing too far. We would definitely stay here again and would have done this year, if it hadn't already been booked up. It's impossible to recommend this apartment too highly!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: You are more than kind, Ian. It's guests like you that make it all worthwhile.

My husband and I stayed in this beautiful Victorian for a week while visiting our son for his graduation from AAU. We were extremely happy with the location, had no problem street parking as we did have a rental car, although it was not necessary for sight seeing in the city. Local transportation is available and affordable. The garden, the kitchen, the laundry, the separate private restroom was really something in design, and the den were all above average and extremely comfortable. Our bedroom was in the back over a lovely garden and the second bedroom, which we used only 3 nights when our son chose to sleep over with us, was at the opposite end of the house adding privacy between the rooms. This was a wonderful advantage the owners offered. Both beds were high end hotel comfortable and the windows can be closed off from light. You could easily be comfortable with four people and still have space and privacy for all. We just cannot say enough about the comfort and the quality of having your own Victorian with space in a great historic neighborhood. We did not mind the street activity as it part of the Haight Ashbury Scene and we found many quaint places to visit within walking distance. The market was our favorite! The owners were charming and accommodating to our every need. The internet was greatly appreciated and the warm touches David and Karen prepared for us were greatly appreciated. We cannot thank you enough except to say that we look forward to returning soon as your home is our first choice. Once again, we thank you David and Karen, and we highly recommend your VRBO!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Karen and I are delighted you enjoyed your stay and deeply appreciate your comments regarding the flat and the neighborhood. You were the perfect guests and we look forward to seeing you again. Stay well in Caracas. Karen and David

My in-laws stayed here for a few of weeks over christmas just after we had our baby; we live right across the street so it was very convenient, everyone had plenty of space. They really enjoyed their stay and liked the apartment. This is a fun part of town, lots of amenities (8 coffee shops within a few blocks, bars, restaurants, bong-shops, hippies, etc). Go to Deluxe on the corner and have Giovanni's pizza and a Spa Collins. Right near the park, plenty of buses and muni downtown. There are some scruffy kids around on Haight Street (age-old tradition, they come from boring towns the midwest and think the streets are paved with green) but they're completely harmless. Depends what you like; personally I've lived around here for a decade and it's my favorite part of my favorite city. Dress warm, especially in 'summer' ;-)Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

If you're looking to stay in San Fran stay HERE!!!! My husband and I had the most amazing time in the apartment. 38 footsteps to the corner of Haight-Ashbury crossroads this was absolutely ideal for our first visit to San Fran. The bus to downtown is just down the street which made it incredibly convenient for exploring the wonderful sights. As soon as we arrived it felt as though I had come home- wonderfully appointed with every kitchen utensil you could ever require, a very comfortable lounge room with a romantic fireplace and the bed was so comfy we were in danger of not getting up each day!!! Wonderful decor on every wall and small gestures that made the whole stay such a pleasure. We will be back on our next trip without a doubt!!! The price is so reasonable for what you get- your own little piece of San Francisco !!!!! Each and every time I wrote or spoke to the owners I was impressed with how thoughtful and thorough they were. 5 star accommodation no doubt about it- I can say no wrong about this incredible place!!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My husband and I stayed here in September and we couldn't have been happier! The apartment is very charming and extremely clean. The pictures don't begin to show how really pretty this place is. The convenience to the bus lines and stores was also great and we were able to navigate around the city really easily. The buses were easy to figure out and the drivers were always nice about directions, and for $2.00 and a transfer you can't beat the price! The market on Haight St was great and had most things you need for your stay. I highly recommend this apartment.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
