Location: Paris Arrondissement 6, Paris, Ile-de-France (Paris Area), France, Europe (6th Arr. - Steps to Luxembourg Garden & Saint Sulpice) View Map
Accommodations: Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Loft + Office, 1.25 Baths (Sleeps 5)
Keywords: City center Flat (65 Square Meters) Luxembourg Garden Saint Germain
The Location:
The location is ideal. The Sixth Arrondissement is where the square meter (sqm) of real estate is the most expensive in all of Paris and the reasons for this are plentiful. It is central, trendy, and beautiful, with the aura of Jean Paul Sartre still floating above the cafés of Saint Germain Des Pres. My favorite walk takes me from my apartment through the lively streets of Saint Germain des Pres, across the Seine river to Notre Dame. Across the street from the apartment, a bus will take you on a scenic ride to the Champs Elysees for a taste of the right bank. Right out of the building there is a boulangerie (bakery), a grocery store, a pharmacy, cafes, and restaurants. Rue de Rennes, where you can shop until you drop - for fashion, shoes, books, anything really - is also nearby.
Around the block, just a few steps away from the apartment is the glorious, breathtakingly beautiful Garden of Luxembourg. As charming as it is, Paris is still a busy, cement-intensive city. A break in the garden will do wonders to replenish your energy. Children love the section designed for them. There is no better way to start a day in Paris than to have breakfast under the trees at the "buvette" there.
The Apartment: To view 21 pictures of the apartment (inside and outside), click on the link at the bootom of the page.
It was just remodeled. It is 65 square meters - you should always inquire about square footage when looking for a rental in Paris, as the number of rooms can be quite deceiving. It sleeps five persons without opening a couch. The apartment is very bright, with high ceilings and wooden beams, plenty of windows (one is even round) and a terrace, with two chairs on it, weather permitting. It has open views of a beautiful courtyard and the roofs of Paris, including the steeple of nearby Saint Sulpice Church (Catherine Deneuve lives on the famous Saint Sulpice square). It is beautifully decorated with French style furniture, some of them antiques. It has hardwood floors throughout, with added carpets in the bedroom and the loft. It is extremely quiet, with absolutely no noise from the street- a rarity in Paris. The birds are all that you hear.
It is located on the fourth floor, with no elevator - approximately 70 steps. Your luggage can be handled up and down for you. A nearby grocery store delivers to you door.
The main floor of the apartment comprises:
1 ) A living room / dining room area:
The living room includes a comfortable leather sofa, a large coffee table, two Empire armchairs, a large window armoire, TV (cable, CNN, BBC, etc), VCR, stereo, a chest of drawers and many closets under the stairway that leads to the loft and laundry room/closet area.
The dining room includes a round table which comfortably sits 5 as it is, but can be expanded to accommodate more, 4 chairs, 3 stools and a bench by the entrance.
2) An open kitchen with microwave and conventional ovens, stove, dishwasher, toaster, coffee maker, juicer, a large refrigerator with a section for frozen goods, plenty of pots and pans.
3) A bedroom with a comfortable 160 cm bed (bigger than a queen-size bed), an armoire, two closets, a chest of drawers and an armchair Voltaire style;
4) A bathroom which includes a shower/bath American style with a glass divider - yes, you can actually take a full shower standing up!, a sink with a travertine countertop and a large mirrored, lit medicine cabinet above it and large towel racks. The bathroom is accessible from the main living room area, its door is next to the door leading to the bedroom;
5) A separate toilet which also includes a small sink; its door is next to the door of the bathroom;
The loft area comprises three sections:
1) The main section opens to the main living room area. It includes two 80 cm (twin) beds which can be used separately or be joined to be used by a couple with linen for 160 cm bed (bigger than a queen size bed) and night stands. The two options are depicted on the available pictures. There is now a curtain, not shown on the pictures. Just tell us your preference and we will set up the loft as you wish before your arrival.
2) A computer ready desk area with a printer and free DSL as well as an extra 80 cm bed. This section also opens to the main living room area;
3) A separate closed-in laundry room, closet and storage area.
Amenities:
Local telephone calls are included and you can receive calls free of charge. DSL is free. Cable TV is included (CNN, BBC, etc). The building and the area are safe and secure; there is a code to get in the building from the street; Linen is provided at no extra cost.
NO SMOKING - NO PETS.

We were there at the end of August when the weather was quite hot. The apartment has lots of windows which provided great ventilation. The apartment is a comfortable, welcoming pied-a-terre for exploring Paris. There are bakeries and shops close by. It is within walking distance of many of Paris's major sites. The Jardin du Luxembourg - a jewel in the middle of Paris - is just around the corner. The owners were friendly and accommodating. If we make it back to Paris we would love to stay there again.

Stayed at this apartment Sept 9 to 14 2011 - perfect location and lovely accomodations. The unit was clean, quiet and comfortable, and had big windows that opened up on to a lovely courtyard. We were a few minutes walk from cafes and the beautiful gardens. If I return to Paris again in the future, this will be my first choice for accomodations. The only issue we had was that the apartment phone wasn't working at the time (a problem since we were dealing with a lost luggage situation). The owners did do their best to help out, but the circumstances caused us a fair bit of hassle trying to work out arrangements with the airport. Note that this apartment is NOT suitable for those with mobility problems or small children. There are about 80 steps up to the apartment and there are steep, open stairs inside the unit leading up to the loft. Perfect for young, healthy adults but worth noting if stairs are not your thing!
Owner response:Thank you for your kind review. Regarding the phone: at the time of Wendy's stay, we were in the process of changing telephone system so we could offer our guests free calls to most countries in the world (USA, Canada, Australia, all of europe, including local calls). It was a bit of a struggle to find out what to plug where but we now have a new phone number and the system works beautifully.. It was a pity that the transition occurred in the midst of a luggage snafu.. so sorry Wendy. Catherine

This was my first trip to Paris. It was a trip of a lifetime and this apartment was part of the special experience. The neighbor hood was quiet, beautiful, and so convenient. The Luxemborg Gardens was so close and a spectacular place to sit and watch the world go by. So many bakeries to walk to and try croissants and baguettes. On Sunday when looking for my morning croissant I found this wonderful open air market which had every imaginable food (raw and prepared) just a 2 blocks from this apartment. The chocolate shop on the corner-only steps from our front door was one mentioned in one of my tour books. Decadent. The apartment was clean, well appointed, and the kitchen had everything one needs to prepare a meal. If I ever get the opportunity to go back I wouldn't hesitate to stay at this apartment.

We had a wonderful stay in this apartment. It's in a great location, there is a fine restaurant across the street, a bakery right next door, and a grocery store around the corner. The metro is nearby, yet it's an easy walk to many Paris attractions. The apartment is light and airy, and very quiet, the kitchen well equipped. The windows are delightful. The owner and agent were both very helpful. We would be happy to stay again!

We stayed here in June and had a wonderful experience. The apartment itself is nicely furnished and was welcoming & comfortable after long days enjoying everything Paris has to offer. But it was probably the atmosphere we enjoyed the most. The neighborhood was safe and convenient to the metro. There are 2 small grocery shop options within a few blocks. The windows of the apartment open onto a courtyard that was so quiet it was hard to believe we were in the city. Only a few blocks from the Jardin du Luxembourg, we visited daily. Don't miss the nearby boulangerie that has warm baguettes and croissants. There are several restaurants nearby... we enjoyed a few near St. Sulpice. The Selden's were great hosts and easy to work with. Yes, we would go back again... in a heartbeat.

Traveling to Paris on business, 3 colleagues and I were extremely pleased with our accommodations in this lovely apartment. The location was perfect, the neighborhood was quiet and a short walking distance from our conference venue, the Luxembourg gardens, and major Paris attractions including the Latin Quarter, Notre Dame and the Louvre. Nearby Metro stations provide access to anywhere in Paris. There was plenty of space for 4 unrelated adults, and the fully equipped kitchen saved us considerably on meals. Cafes, coffee shops and fully stocked grocery stores are steps away. The free wireless Internet access was great for business, keeping in touch with friends and colleagues and planning excursions in Paris. The apartment owners and local manager were extremely helpful. The only negative was climbing 70 steps to the top-story apartment, you must be in good shape to stay here! On the positive side, being on the top story gave us more space and great breezes in this airy apartment. I would definitely stay there again--so much better than a tiny, expensive hotel room.

I stayed here for almost a month and couldn't have asked for a better home away from home. Lovely view of Paris roof tops, lots of light, quiet, and overlooking a pretty courtyard with beautiful songbirds in the morning. This ideally located apt. is only 200 meters from Jardin du Luxembourg which is an Eden of humanity. Given its ideal location in the Latin Quarter, if you like to walk, and everyone should in Paris, you can walk to all the museums and sights. My hosts, Fred and Catherine Seldon, were terrific and their facilitator in Paris, Tanya, made sure everything went without a hitch. Given another chance, I would return here in a heartbeat.

My daughter and I stayed at this apartment during our recent trip to Paris. It's location is perfect, the property is clean and inviting and the neighborhood is quiet. There are a number of formidable stairs to climb, but the effort is worth it. The apartment overlooks a serene internal courtyard and even has a small balcony. We would recommend this apartment and hope to stay here again in the future.
