Son of a Sailor is a beautifully professionally decorated condo located in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Your hosts, Dennis and Betty, purchased the condo in Dec. 2010 and have remodeled for you and your family to enjoy. The condo is named for your hosts' fathers who served in WWII and love boating and sailing.
Each room radiates the colors of the tranquil waters of the gulf and white sandy beaches that Gulf Shores is so widely known for both vacations and second homes. Son of a Sailor is located on the 6th floor close enough to hear the ocean waves or see your children running along the shore or playing in the pool below.
The condo is designed to comfortably sleep 4 people if you use the pull out queen sofa bed or the two bunk beds tucked neatly inside the hallway. The main bedroom and bath have all of the look, feel and amenities of a resort spa hotel by the beach. The kitchen is fully equipped with new appliances and dishes (glass and plastic) and linens that give you the experience of a coastal kitchen cottage. The patio is close by for a quiet cup of coffee overlooking the waters of the Gulf in the morning or an intimate dinner at night.
The family room and kitchen have an modern cottage open design so that you have the advantage of viewing the ocean from any point in the room or if you choose you can watch your favorite movie on a 32” flat screen HDTV and DVD.
Enjoy a beautiful sunrise or sunset from your balcony…no charge! So whether you are a couple looking for a romantic getaway or a family seeking adventure, Son of a Sailor has it all.

This place is beautiful and we would love to come back. It was decorated beautifully. The balcony had an amazing view of the ocean. The beach is gorgeous and shells were everywhere. The condo is very close to everything. The weather was a little cold the first day, but we couldn't have asked for anything better. The beach, pool, and hot areas were easily accessible. Our favorite place to dine at Live Bait in Orange beach. They have a place to feed turtles and my son loved it. The Hangout was great as well. LuLu's had a great view of the river and the food was good. City Grill had the BEST burgers. I would recommend this property to everyone. :)Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We appreciate these comments and kind words. It makes the whole rental effort worth it and it's why we enjoy sharing our home with others. Thank you!

This was our first trip to Gulf Shores and we can't wait to go back!! The condo was great and EXACTLY as described. The owners were a pleasure to work with! The reserved parking is in a great location and was so convenient! I would definitely recommend this unit to anyone and we would be staying there again this year if it weren't already booked!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Comfortable, clean, well equipped and everything in good order. Just two of us so plenty of room and the deck was more spacious than it appears to be in the pictures - we spent a lot of time here !! To have a nominated covered parking space so close to the elevator was a great bonus. There are several good restaurants within 15 minutes drive, the seafood was something to die for. All our contacts with Dennis prior to our stay were first class and we were pleased to meet him while we were there. We will be back.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with young children.

We found this condo to be as described. Uniquely decorated, comfortable and furnished throughout with quality in mind, just unpack your suitcase and this condo and the Seacrest complex have everything you will need for your stay in Gulf Shores. The owners have thought of and provided everything, just relax and enjoy as we did. Hoping to return next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

The pictures and descriptions of Son of a Sailor painted it as a lovely place to stay. We found it to be just as advertised. It probably didn't hurt that the weather was glorious, but our stay was quite a joy. The condo is reasonably priced and Denneis was very accomadating. We will return and I encourage others to stay there too.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We have stayed in Gulf Shores many times over the past 25 years, but this particular visit was one of the best. The Condo was beautiful and looked exactly like the pictures posted on the site. As luck would have it the weather was great and the water clear so that made it even more enjoyable. The owner was especially easy to work with! Great time - great place - we will be back. BTW - I am VERY picky so you can trust this review without any hesitation.... 2 THUMBS UP!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

First, let me start by saying that the owner of 602 and the condo itself were both a delight! He is very easy and accommodating to work with. The condo's recent renovation is lovely. It is just as the pictures describe. Quaint, comfortable, and beachy. Everything you could possibly need is here. Of course, when renting a condo, you ALWAYS want to bring your own extras (toilet paper, detergent, trash bags, etc.). Unfortunately, that's where my glowing review stops. We've been here 2 days and everything that is not within the owner's control has been miserable. The building itself is old and somewhat run down. The stairs door for the floor is rusted out and sometimes opens, sometimes not. We take the steps because several times in 2 days the elevators have been jammed thanks to unsupervised kids hitting all the buttons. We've also had problems with ppl parking in the designated renter spot. "Security" is only here overnight. The noise factor is through the roof. My 7 y/o son has not slept well in the bunks so we gave up the bedroom for him. The door slamming and hall galavanting starts at 8. Teenagers, kids, adults...you name it ALL NIGHT LONG. One neighbor just spent 2 hrs in the middle of the night checking out. 53 door slams later... You can hear everything, and smell everything. This being a no smokin building does not stop people from smoking MORE than just cigarettes on their balconies. Nice surprise to wake up and go out to at 7 am after no sleep. If you do manage to get a quiet hr, the beds are comfortable. Like I said, the interior of the condo is not the problem! As for the beach and pool? The pool is small and always busy. If its not adults lining up their beer cans along the edge, it's teens jumping over you or piled into the hot tub. There is lots of sad trash on the beach and it has not been morning swept once since being here. Ppl leave canopies and chairs up over night. In all the places we've been, this is a first. I don't expect to see a beach sweep soon. We may have just got unlucky with the crowd this year. We will likely not return to Gulf Shores if we even make it the week. It's fairly inexpensive with lots to do, but the drawbacks have made it very unpleasant, especially if you're a family with a young child that doesn't plan on partying until 3 am every night.Did you find this review helpful? This was our first trip to Gulf Shores and we had the time of our lives. I wouldn't describe this condo as luxury as is described by the owners, but instead...quaint, comfy and beachy. The only thing that I found strange was that there was only 1 roll of toilet paper and 1 garbage bag for the time our family was there. That should be replenished by the cleaning staff after guests leave. Still, with everything provided...covered parking, an unbelievable view and all other fun within 5 minutes from the condo, it is was wonderful. WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This condo was better than we ever expected. The unit was very clean and comfortable and very well decorated. The view from the 6th floor was fabulous. We had dolphin sightings every morning from our private balcony. The condo is on the west end of the beach which is less crowded so it was nice to always have alot of spots to choose from to set up our beach chairs. The owner was very accomodating and we will definitely return.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Absolutely nothing negative to say about this property. Dennis was great, condo location is awesome, the interior decoration was spot on- calming, beautiful, relaxing, functional. We slept great, had a nice breakfast on the balcony every day, and spent hours on the beach. Covered/designated parking and security was a plus, too. Condo looks just like the pictures. You can tell it has been updated recently -very nice, very clean. Enjoyed the Hangout (not necessarily the food but the atmosphere, music and shopping were lots of fun, esp. for our kiddo - he LOVED the sand hill), loved the food at Lulu's, and had great pizza from Old World Pizza. Had a blast petting baby tigers at the zoo - don't miss that if it is an option when you are there. We don't make a habit of staying at the same place more than once - we like variety - but we plan to come back to Son of a Sailor. Loved it, loved it, loved it, and I bet you will too! Thank you Dennis for everything!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
