Ubud is often said to be the art and culture capitol of Bali, a distinction that has continued throughout the long and fabulous history of this area. Ubud is a 5 minute walk out the front gate of this private walled villa, one of the first guesthomes and warungs in the area, still giving you a glimpse into the old Bali, the people and culture. Ubud is a 45 minute drive from the International Airport in Denpasar, the island's capitol. We can arrange for you to be picked up at the airport and driven in comfort to this lovely villa in the village of Campuhan, right on the edge of Ubud's cultural center yet connected by pedestrian paths to the traditional village of Penestanan. Pickup cost is about US$50, depending on time of arrival, and will be arranged by the same Balinese family that cares for and manages the villa.
Accommodations - Private Villa: One luxurious bedroom upstairs with Queen bed and 360 degree views from the top of the ridge; spacious living/dining area downstairs with couch beds that can sleep 2; balconies on both floors; an upper loft in a 3rd floor tower; plus other (see description); kitchenette and 2 baths (sleeps 2 but will accomodate up to 4).
This is a gorgeous romantic Bali villa just outside the ancient city of Ubud. It sets atop a ridge with cool breezes, overlooking the best of Ubud but seperated from it by rice fields. The famous Bali irrigation system is everywhere, with small canals in front and behind the house feeding the fields. Towards Ubud, a stone stairway leads down a jungle path to the main street leading to the city's heart. In the other direction, a quiet path leads through rice fields to the charming village of Penestanan. The very private walled villa has a luxurious master bedroom on the second floor with its own bathroom. The 360 degree views go on and on. Downstairs is an artistic large bathroom opening onto a garden with indoor/outdoor hot water shower. There is a comfortably furnished dining and living room with additional sleeping couches for two. A small kitchenette with refrigerator is provided.
Your walled and gated villa is private and secured by the same Balinese family that takes care of your every wish. They have a small warung (local restaurant) nearby which has the best sate and nasi champur in Ubud. The family will bring meals to your villa or you can dine in their restaurant, or you can take a short stroll to Ubud for some of the finest restaurants on the island. If you need help with travel plans or shopping, the family is English-speaking and there is always a driver that can take you anywhere you desire in an air conditioned car. You have the opportunity to enjoy the privacy and beauty of old Bali with the guidance and hospitality of an established Balinese family...or you may just want to stroll into Ubud and do your own thing!
We are located on the edge of Ubud, in the Northwest where it rises to the rice fields of Campuhan. It is a short ten minute walk to the center of Ubud with its shops, markets, palaces and temples. Ubud is full of art galleries, artisan workshops, boutiques and great restaurants. The villa is located at the top of a stone stairway that takes you above the bustle of Ubud into the quiet of the rice terraces. Quiet save for the frogs, geckos, and assorted birds of Bali!
You can spend your days exploring all that Bali and Ubud have to offer but come home to your own villa where a welcome breeze always blows. Email or call us in the USA to reserve a piece of paradise.

A wonderful stay

This villa is a great stay. For 12 wonderful nights we were captivated with both the structure and the views. This is a three storey villa. The ground floor has a large living-dining room (with two large sofas that can convert into beds) plus a fantastic indoor-outdoor bathroom and shower room, and a small kitchen. The stone circular stairway leads to the second floor, which is one very large bedroom with windows around and a balcony, plus second bathroom. The third and top floor is accessed via an outside stairway that leads to a small square room that has windows all around. My wife and I would get up each morning to climb to this top room to watch the tropical sunrises accent the volcanic silhouettes and cast morning rays of sunlight on the rice paddies below. The villa sets atop a high hill overlooking the valleys just outside of Ubud. The Villa was cleaned and was cleaned daily by the family that takes care of the place. A gated-walled garden surrounds the villa. Breakfast was included and was served a warung (small restaurant) just below the villa. A great stay!

My husband and I stayed here last May for our honeymoon. It was our 2nd place to stay in Bali after some time at a beach resort. I suspected we were leaving the best for last and it really was. We picked this place so that we would not need a car and we didn't. Everything was within walking distance, or else we hired the owner for rides in the nicest car we saw on the island. This place is even more amazing than the description. In Bali, the most valued places are high up, and this has the tip top view. The Villa is just a walk up a staircase from Ubud. There is also a small village thru the trails going in the other direction. The family that cares for the place is unobtrusive, as another reviewer mentioned. But when we did interact with them, they made it seem like we were long lost friends staying with them. The grandma cooks in the restaurant just below the villa. We had some of our best meals in Bali there, and at some of the best prices. Communicating with the American owner ahead of time was very convenient, as well. She even referred us to an amazing bodyworker who came to the Villa for massages. Her Balinese brother-in-law and his family who lives downstairs were the runs who maintained the Villa. They were so attentive and he was just a great guy. I wish we could go back again soon!!!!

I'm not going to be able to come up with enough unique superlatives to describe this place but it was, it a word, unimprovable. You have the best view - period - of any hotel, homestay, cottage around and the food made by the adorable family downstairs was literally some of the best we've ever had. We befriended a women who has lived in Ubud for years and stayed and seen hundreds of homes and agreed this was superb. And it's HUGE! You have so much space. Not to mention the (US) owner was a delight to deal with and talk to and everything was very smooth. We went in December and to sit high atop the 180 degree glass perch on the home and see the variations of sun clouds lightning....and to hear the cacophony of frogs, toads, squirrels, crickets; it was like you had to just keep pinching yourself that it was real. I should add that the family below is as helpful as can be, but very very unobtrusive, really we didn't know they were there unless we engaged them... Bali is a magical place, Ubud is among the best towns in Bali, and this is certainly one of the best places to stay when you go.

This was the first place I stayed in Bali, and I didn't want to leave. The family that manages the home is so kind and their restaurant (located below the house) serves good food. The location is incredible: located in the hills where you get a nice breeze and the view is absolutely breathtaking. It is a very peaceful place and only a 10 minute walk into the heart of Ubud. The house is much larger than I imagined; suitable for a family and spacious for an individual or couple. Worth every penny.
