Perfect Getaway at Parks Pond

I stayed at Loon Lodge for a week at the end of September/early October 2010. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful, providing a good tour of the cottage and its features. The cottage was immaculate, well appointed, and had everything needed for my stay. Plenty of dishes, glassware, flatware, kitchen utensils, pots, pans, towels and wash cloths. Appliances were in good condition and working order. The bathroom had ample towels and face cloths. At that time of year the weather could be warm and sunny or blustery and chilly. There was good cross ventilation with open windows on the warm days, and for the chilly nights I sat in front of the cozy gas fireplace which heated the whole living/dining/kitchen area nicely. I used the furnace only once during my visit on a particulary chill morning. The cottage is close to the owner's house and another cottage, but there is still plenty of privacy provided by deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs. Floor-to-ceiling windows facing the pond offer a wonderful view of the water and the distant shore. Very few lights from the opposite cottages reflected on the pond at night. One night as I gazed at stars from the little dock a neighborhood beaver slapped its tail on the pond's surface several times. Warning me away? Several times during daylight hours as I swam in the cool water I spotted a beaver (the same one?) not far off shore. Loon Lodge is very convenient to the Parks Pond Bluff trail. Great view of the pond and surrounding area from the top of the Bluff. Other hiking trails nearby include Chick Hill and Lead Mt. Loon Lodge and Parks Pond are very convenient to coastal sightseeing and to shopping in Brewer and Bangor. It was a short jaunt for groceries, laundromat, antiquing, museums, and other activities. Also quite practical for trips to Bucksport, Fort Knox, the bridge observatory, Stonington, and Belfast. I was very, very happy with Loon Lodge's cleanliness, location, and overall condition. The owners obviously take pride in their properties!
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
