This new (2006) courtyard style home offers the best of everything. The outdoor-living spaces are as fabulous as the indoor areas. Located on a quiet cul-de-sac inside the Vanderhorst Plantation, this 5,376 square foot home (4,176 interior & 1,200 covered decks) offers 5 bedrooms, 5.5 baths and is only a short walk to the beach. It is the ideal getaway location for a family reunion or multi-family vacation.
Walk through the mahogany front door to your own private sanctuary. The columned gallery leads you to the courtyard with its lush vegetation. A beautiful, private pool invites you to relax. To one side is the main house, to the other is the three bedroom, three bath guest house. The 2nd story of the guest house also includes a large living room with plasma tv, card table, built-in cabinet w/ refrigerator and covered balcony overlooking the private heated pool.
The main house has two huge master suites with king beds. Spacious spa like bathrooms with large separate tiled walk-in showers and soaking tubs adjoin each bedroom. The large living room features a built-in media center, plasma screen TV and fireplace. Guests can dine in the formal dining room or the roomy breakfast area. The beautifully designed and equipped kitchen will satisfy the casual or gourmet cook. While enjoying your morning coffee or throughout the day, open the French doors to watch the sunrise or catch the evening breeze. Hardwood floors can be found throughout both professionally decorated houses.

We have vacationed at Kiawah 15 times since the early 80's with this time being the first with our daughters and their families, including three grandchildren. The Duncan's home is overall the nicest accommodation that we have rented there. It is a perfect design for multiple families with young children, as well as a great location for easy beach and bike trail access. Erin Duncan was excellent to work with, particularly her quick responses to all questions. We were totally satisfied with this rental.

Our family of adults and teenagers LOVED our time in this lovely home. It sits on a quiet cul de sac with beautiful surroundings. It is about a ten minute walk to the beach (or a five minute bike ride). Each night we enjoyed our family time together gathered around the pool. We found the home to have a well equipped kitchen, nice furnishings, and plenty of room for all of us. Erin was extremely helpful and very professional to deal with each time we talked to her. Our family brought back wonderful memories of a week filled with fun, laughter, rest, and relaxation.

Our family spent its first vacation on Kiawah Island in October, 2010. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely home on the Vanderhorst Plantation! The home was perfect in every way - plenty of room, plenty of privacy and appointed with everything we could have envisioned we might need. We were a group of 8, including our two young grandsons who we could not keep out of the pool (yes we heated it, worth every penny!). The very well-equipped kitchen was the creative hub for many memorable meals and good times! We enjoyed morning bike rides to the beach, day trips into Charleston and being pampered at a nearby spa. Trips to the grocery store (Newton Farms) at Freshfields Village were anything but mundane! This will not be our last time on Kiawah nor will it be our last time at this wonderful home. Erin was wonderful to work with and helped make our vacation one of our best vacations ever. We look forward to a return trip soon!

We had a wonderful family vacation at this beautiful home in May. Plenty of room for 3 families. The separate house is so convenient for getting the younger ones down for the evening. We had only been home 2 weeks when my niece said "I'm ready to go back to Kiawah." The 147 Hooded Merganser exceeded our expectations! The way the home is designed was perfect for 3 families and the kitchen was the ideal gathering area. As others have mentioned, Erin is always available to answer questions and help with any need. I would not hesitate to recommend this beautiful home with easy beach access and wonderful pool.

Every other year My wife and I have a reunion with our sons, daughter in law, her brother and wife, and their son, daughter, husband and young son. This year we picked Kiawah. The most pleasant accomodations we have ever had. Erin was fantastic!! she even called the first night to see if everything was ok. We would recommend Erin's vacation home to anybody anytime. We had such a great time, we will come back again! Very "baby friendly".

147 Hooded Merganser was perfect for our family. The house is beautifully appointed and very well maintained. The separate guest house was great for our older son and his family with three small children. Our teenage son and we enjoyed the roomy main house bedrooms. While everyone liked being together for day time fun and dining, private sleeping quarters were appreciated. All of the bathrooms are beautifully done and the showers are huge and welcoming. The large kitchen is a great gathering place and the table easily accomodated our family of seven and a baby. Speaking of the baby, the house comes equipped with a pack and play and high chair. The extra we paid for heating the pool in April was worth every penny. Even though temps. were in the 60s, no one hesitated to get in the pool - so much fun! We also enjoyed bike riding and kite flying on the beach - a short walk (7-10 min) or even shorter bike ride (5 min or less). We had never been to Kiawah before and would definitely come back. We would definitely recommend 147 Hooded Merganser. Bay Village, OH
