Location: Paris Arrondissement 4, Paris, Ile-de-France (Paris Area), France, Europe

Accommodations:  Apartment, Studio + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-3)

Location: The Marais, oldest and most colorful neighborhood in Paris. This apartment has an unobstructed view of the Seine and the Isle Saint Louis, and is just a block from Metro Line 1, providing easy access to most of the city's historic monuments, from the Bastille Opera to the Louvre to the Champs Elysees.

Description: On the fourth floor, with elevator, of a late nineteenth century building, this centrally air-conditioned (!) 31 square meter (336 square feet) apartment is bathed in light from three large south-facing windows. Antique oak floors have been lovingly restored, and the kitchen and bath are finished with elegant porcelain tiles which echo the pale hues of a seventeeth century Parisian limestone wall, a portion of which is exposed in a decorative niche. There is more than adequate storage for luggage and clothing making the apartment comfortable and practical for a stay of any duration. Decoration and furnishings include raw silk drapes with sheers, comfortable sofa-bed to accomodate a third person, dining table and chairs with seating for four, and a writing desk with hi-speed computer connection. Built-in niches at the head of the bed are equipped with switches for reading lamps and room lighting, and a digital alarm clock.

Why do I love this apartment?
-It has been restored by American Designer R.O. Flinn who is known for his meticulous respect for historic detail without conceeding any modern comforts and practicality.
-The view is magic: you are one block from the river on the right bank, and the rooftops of classic French architecture cradle the view, while the streaming sunshine bathes the apartment in warm parisian light.

What other services can we provide?
We offer personal concierge services, reservations, translations, etc., and I would be happy to arrange for our private car service to pick you up at the airport and deliver you and your luggage to your Parisian home.

    • Our recent stay in Studio Charlmagne was fabulous. The location is perfect, right in the middle of everything that's happening on rue St. Antoine, yet with all the quiet and privacy one could wish for. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We recommend this apartment without hesitation, and would love to stay here again on our next trip to Paris.

    • Thank you for the most amazing time spent in your phenomenal apartment! We were totally blown away by how cleverly and tastefully it’s been done up and how amazingly situated it is. Looking out on the city and the Paris rooftops from the apartment was as thrilling as seeing the sights of the city itself. We actually looked forward to getting back to the apartment each day. The interior and the views through the open windows with the privacy afforded by being on the upper floors make this the most charming and exotic apartment we’ve ever stayed in. This is without a doubt our location of choice for our foreign travels.

    • I've stayed two times at Jim's Charlemagne apartment, and cannot say enough about how wonderful it is in terms of comfort, cleanliness, convenience. While it's very close to great shopping and transportation, the apartment itself is very quiet. The hotel staff that helps you with check-in, restaurant reservations, airport taxis and luggage storage if needed are terrific as well. Highly recommend!

    • We have really enjoyied our stay here, as we always do in Paris. Apartment Charlemagne is a wonderfully set up apartment we have not wanted for very much. Charlemagne’s view down to the river is very nice and a surprise is waking up to the sounds of birds in the morning, something we have not experienced before in central Paris. The hotel staff have been very helpful and pleasant to deal with, a pleasure being met at the airport by the hotel staff and well worth the convenience (cf a Taxi). I have no hesitation in recommending Charlemagne to others.

    • We LOVED the apartment! From the moment to when we were picked up from the airport to time we left it was spectacular. We also had the chance to stay in a holtel but really felt the best time was in the apartment. It had wonderful views, easy to walk to the Metro. Great cafes around the corner. I also got to discover Monoprix which was a blast. This is definitely the way to live and stay in Paris. Everything we needed was in the apartment. The internet connection was really helpful to do research of sites and eateries. Therw is nothing that I would change except to be able to stay longer!

    • I think we fell in love with 16 Rue Charlemagne before even seeing the apartment. The great double doors protecting the courtyard from the street, the small lighted doorway inside that must have, at one time, contained a concierge, were essentially Parisian. The well-worn wooden stairway that spiralled up to the fourth floor had a feeling of history about it, and a palpable sense of place. One could imagine Commisaire Maigret, complete with trilby and pipe, with Lucas in tow, padding softly upwards. When we opened the door to the apartment proper, we were met with a sense of luminescence and space that made the room appear much larger than it was. The evening sun filled the room through the long french windows, making the paintings on the walls glow with their own life. The tiny, perfectly equipped kitchenette and the bright and spotless bathroom completed this gem. The view from the windows is of Paris rooftops, at once urban and romantic, architectural and whimsical. We enjoyed it most in the evenings as the blue of the dusk deepened and the lights began to come on in the neighbouring buildings. In the mornings, birds sang lustily on the rooftops (in February!) as early Parisians walked their dogs and the smell of coffee rose from Le Framboiserie (the café on the ground floor). It’s a short walk to Notre Dame and back, one our six-year-old managed easily. Rue de Rivoli is two streets over. The Île St Louis and the Île de la Cité, the oldest parts of Paris, are on the doorstep. Go through the courtyard and out onto the Rue St Antoine and there’s a supermarket, a patisserie, a wine merchant, and a gourmet shop all strung along. That’s not to mention the fruit and vegetables, the cafés, the super crêpe stall and the restaurants within reach. The St Paul metro stop is just there too. If, no, when we return to Paris, we’ll not be looking further than this apartment: homely yet chic, romantic yet practical, escapist yet central, and très, très parisien.

    • I stayed for 10 days, and could have stayed indefinitely, because the apartment offers the perfect haven from which to explore this lovely city. The location is superb, the apartment is airy, spacious and provides a lovely place to come home to. It is extremely well equipped and all in all, a home from home, except that it goes one better - IT IS IN PARIS.

    • Cozy central neighborhood. Lots of charming (and very good) restaurants nearby. Easy walk to Notre Dame, Boulevard St Michele, the Lourve & Tuilleries. The apartment was clean, comfortable and well- maintained. We plan to return. Would recommend very highly.

    • Studio Charlemagne was absolutely wonderful! We stayed there from April 16-21, 2008 and could not have been happier with the accommodations. This a private apartment in a perfect location in Paris, located on a quiet and picturesque street. Yet what is so special is that you walk up the street a short distance in any direction and turn the corner, and you are in the midst of many restaurants and shops! It is close to two metros for ease in getting-around, and within comfortable walking distance to the beautiful Seine, Opera Bastille and the lovely Isle de Saint-Louis area. The studio itself is so much larger than a plain hotel room, and is very well appointed. It is a combined bedroom/sitting room, nicely designed and furnished, with a separate kitchen and bathroom, all very nicely updated. We were so happy to have it to come back to each day, because it was so comfortable! The lift was a big plus, as the stairs were being renovated (no noise, no smell, no problem.) Though this is a private property, all dealings are through the Hotel Saint-Louis Marais, located nearby. The staff was friendly, accommodating, charming and, well...classy. We will never stay anywhere else in Paris!
