I am an extremely picky traveler and this far exceeded my expectations. It is very clean and spacious. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to prepare meals. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms large. The grounds are very well cared for and beautiful. Great location to Hana Town. There is no cell service there (GREAT! because I am on vacation!) but internet is availalbe. It is obvious that Janet takes wonderful care of her place. I would recommend this house to you without hesitation. Thanks, Janet, for an awesome vacation!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Aloha Jacqui, Thank you for such a lovely review of Geckosong ~ so happy you enjoyed Hana!

Woderful is just not powerful enough to describe the view from this idyllic home. Perched above the churning ocean and directly in the path of the cool trade winds, there may be not better place to find just relax and vegg out. In Hana the weather is dynamic; sun and showers and rainbows and the steady winds to lull you into a much needed nap or motivate you to explore the wonders at the end of a long windy road on the outter end of Maui. It's a place where nature and vacations come together away from the maddening crowds. We were three outdoors guys looking for photos of waterfalls and crashing ocean waves and we found it here. The home is perfect for 3 singles like us or three or even four couples. A big kitchen opens to the dining area with a view of the verdant landscape and the blue Pacific. Eat on the deck and you're flying above the trees and down toward the sea. Hiking is out the door to the lava tubes across the street and down the road to the National Botanical Gardens. Hana has friendly people and an old Hawaii appeal. Great lunches at the farmers market down the road a mile or two or shop in town at one of two small town country stores that have all you'll need from sunscreen to ice cream. Gecko Song was perfect for us. I hope you find it too. Steve, Steve and Dave. Birders from Ely, Minnesota.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Well put, Steve ! Hana is an adventure for all senses in all seasons.

We could not have asked for a better experience than our visit to Gecko Song. We are frequent visitors to Hana who brought our long-time friends for their first visit. We were all so pleased with your lovely home - nice location, wonderfully equipped and impeccably clean. Cooking in the well-designed kitchen was a treat . . . we all love to cook and there was room for each of us to participate. We wanted for nothing. Thank you so much for sharing your Hana home with us.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you, Linda for your delightful review of our vacation home. So happy to hear about your shared time in the oceanview kitchen. Any tropical recipes to share?

We stayed here in April 2011 with my family of 4, my sister, and my parents. It was a perfect location for a family reunion. An absolutely beautiful, well-equipped house and property on a quiet street right across from the lava tubes. Arranging the rental was very easy and the owner, Janet, was very helpful giving advice about the local area. We would absolutely recommend the Gecko House in the future.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you, Deb for this lovely review of my Maui home. So glad you enjoyed the unique Hana experience! Looking forward to hearing more about your adventures. Aloha nui, Janet

Hi Janet, Thanks again for allowing us to rent your lovely peaceful home. Hana was quite magical for us, what with the Pilanihale Heiu, the Black Sand Beach, Hameo Beach, Oheo Gulch and just the scenery and people of Hana itself. The time was made that much more special by staying at your home - I loved watching the flocks of cattle egrets fly from the trees every morning when i was on the deck doing yoga. And we so enjoyed returning at the end of the day to the spacious calming beauty of the house and the gorgeous views. We were travelling with grandparents and children, and the high ceilings and large rooms were wonderful. Our last night we all stood on the deck and saw the biggest, brightest most colourful shooting star I've ever seen! We will definitely return some day - hopefully soon! Mahalo ... Owner response: Liz, thanks for the positive feedback! We are thrilled that you loved our Hana home and all of Hana's unique offerings ! Truly the best place on Maui -- hope to see you soon - Janet.

My wife and I, and 3 kids (6, 6, and 7) recently enjoyed 4 days at Geckos' Song House. The house was wonderfully spacious, comfortable, and had a great deck with fantastic views. The owner was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The property was well maintained, and we liked the location. All around, a great stay for a reasonable price.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Wow! What a thrill to see such a nice review. Geckos' Song House welcomes families and any questions guests may have about local activities and Hana. Mahalo nui

Wake up in the morning and view the incredible ocean view from the kitchen/living room. If you are up early enough you can view the little white birds flying by at the same time in the morning every day. Ah Nature! Go out on the deck and the gentle warm breeze wraps around you and comforts your soul. Nature's anti stress message! Inside of the immaculate home you can cook up a storm and have a lovely gathering with Hawiian melodies soothing your psyche. Nearby you can venture to the seven pools, swim at the beach or embibe on a gourmet meal or kneading massage. Truly Paradise Found! Hana is a destination area of Maui and you could stay at the Gecko Song House for your vacation in it's entirety if you have provsioned yourself at the local Costco on the way in from the Lahaina airport. You can just relax or hike, swim and sightsee. This get away should be on your Bucket List!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Aloha, Guests ~ Reading this - I can almost smell the plumeria blooming near the house. Say, let's have papaya for breakfast or go the the Hotel for their brioche french toast! O.K. just a note - there are two grocery/variety stores in Hana that always have an surprising assortment of foods and supplies (for a small town). Call me for shopping ideas if you have picky eaters in your group - but otherwise Hana can supply you with plenty of choices. A few ideas: Thai food in town is the latest craze! It is terrific for lunch, or take home for dinner. Also, Mile Marker 28 just before the house has awesome BBQ fish or pork tacos AND BBQ'd whole or half chickens. Try the candied coconut from Pat -- she is a fascinating woman. Right near my street is Kalo Road -- wonderful Asian food and produce there. I could go on forever -- there is no place on earth like Hana!

The views from this home are much better than in the pictures!! We loved our trip to Geckosong! The road to Hana is known for its curves, and every curve brings a gorgeous view, bird calls, waterfalls and tropical splendor -- with the grand finale of the show being the arrival in Hana -- a place like no other in Hawaii. I have lived in Hawaii for 30 years and this home is one of the nicest on Maui. Perfect for a quiet relaxed getaway -- as well, we found lots to do and great beaches when we wanted action. The house and grounds were well maintained and the price reasonable. We loved the Thai food in town and the local music at the Hotel lounge. Hiking through the bamboo forest is heavenly, and getting a massage at Luana's is surreal!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Yes, Hana is unique and always a grand adventure ! Thank you for the wonderful introduction to this cherished paradise.

We REALLY enjoyed staying in Hana in early July. Your home is beautiful and had everything we needed. Loved the cave across the street. Loved the quirky general store and the BBQ place down the road. Hana was a nice change for those in our party who prefer the simpler things in life.(Grand resorts are nice, but not really my preference.....) I loved the morning walks around the yard taking in the scents and sounds of the dawn. I think I came home with more photos of your garden flowers than anything else. So thank you, Janet, for making your house available so we could enjoy Hana as if we were living there. We will tell everyone we know about what a great find it was! I cannot say enough about how staying there made all the difference to our Maui trip.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: When I first drove my sweetheart, Marty on the Hana Highway he was amazed by the gorgeous scenery and waterfalls enroute. The next morning he slept late while I took a relaxing stroll to town. I was re-visiting the Hana of my childhood and later stumbled upon this delightful, inviting home overlooking the sea. Being a yoga teacher, I envisioned hosting yoga retreats with music resonating throughout the high cedar ceilings during ocean view yoga. Having visited Hana frequently for over 40 years, my dream of sharing my home with friends has become a reality. I hope you as well, embrace your own cherished memories of Hana.
Why the Owner Chose Hana:
My grandparents first discovered Hana before WWII, staying in quaint cottages overlooking Hana Bay, where the lovely Hana Ranch Hotel now stands. I first enjoyed Hana in the 1960's and returned every year or so, sometimes with as many as 50 family members. We always say, 'Hana No Ka Oi' or 'There's no place like Hana' I welcome you to my Hana home, a unique cedar pole house with stunning views and cozy places to relax and unwind. This is the perfect escape for those seeking peace and quiet with plenty of activities when you yearn for adventure. May you find sanctuary and rejuvenate in this incredible historic town. There is no other place like this in the Hawaiian Islands, where you are just beyond the rain forest yet all is lush and beautiful.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Walk through the property and pick guava, bananas or papaya. Admire the exotic tropical flowers. Take a cave tour across the street (with high ceilings). Visit one of the only black sand beaches in Hawaii, just 1.5 miles away, or go a bit further into Hana town where swimming in Hana Bay in gentle and there is wonderful Thai food or local barbeque. Play tennis, go horseback riding or on an ultra-light ride, or just enjoy lounging at one of many quiet and gorgeous beaches. Award winning galleries and unique spas and shops await you -- and a hike through a bamboo forest to a 400 foot waterfall !!
