The Chautaugua is the ultimate beach experience...Best Beach...Best Location...Best House. Lovingly REBUILT in 2005/2006 from the studs up to maintain the integrity of the original 1926 CRAFTSMAN bungalow with painstaking attention to detail. The Original Heart of Pine floors & Bead Board are combined with best of the NEW - New Kitchen, New Elec, New Plumbing, New Drywall, New Windows -Everything NEW but done “in period” & First Class. There is not a more charming rental available.
Designed to accommodate small to large groups, The Chautauqua is actually a Duplex. We can sleep 6, or 15, or 22 depending on what size you need.
The MAIN house with 4 Bedrooms PLUS a huge 4 Bed Sleeping Loft and 4.5 Baths sleeps 15. The FIRST FLOOR has 2 bedrooms and 1 bath that sleeps 6-7. See VRBO 75520.
I designed it to be the ULTIMATE beach experience. A place where friends & family could come together to enjoy each other. Recharge their batteries. It has everything you need - DIRECT OCEAN VIEWS – Pool Table – Piano – Rocking Chairs – Games – Books – 11 TV’s . It is located on the BEST BEACH around – No Cars – Powder Sand – Wide Beach – Great Waves (see Beach Comparison). We hope THE CHAUTAUQUA will become an integral part of your Family Memories and you will come back year after year.
The MAIN HOUSE - It starts with the Great room - 24 foot long – which acts as the main focal point from which the 4 Bedrooms flow. I fell in love the minute I saw it - It has an Entertainment center - a Huge DINING AREA – my Grandmother’s PIANO – plus GAME tables - All open to a NEW state of the art GOURMET KITCHEN - Cherry with the most unusual Granite I had ever seen – It looks like sand - Black Glass Jennaire Double Ovens with matching Refrigerator and Smooth Cooktop – Microwave - Full array of cooking tools, dishes, pots and pans - Stainless Farm Sink - Stone floors – plus a large Laundry room w/ironing facilities – Pantry – Large Linen Closet w/BEACH TOWELS for the whole family.
I designed the bedrooms to work for 2 or more families coming together. There are 2 OCEAN FRONT MASTERS that open onto the Beach for wonderful VIEWS and BREEZES - both w/full Stone Bathrooms.
The first with West Indies style canopy bed features a Coral Stone Bathroom - Offwhite shell stone on both the floors and walls w/black stone accents and cabinets. It includes an antique CLAWFOOT Tub plus RAIN SHOWER w/BODY SHRAY.
The other Master with Cherry Sleigh Bed and matching TV Armoire features a bath of taupe colored stone with inset blue glass & a JETTED SOAKING TUB/Shower combo.
The 3rd Bedroom can function as a 3rd Master or a children’s room. The walls are Bead Board w/the bath done in an old fashion mosaic stone rug. There is a Canopy Queen Bedroom & a Daybed.
Bedroom 4 is also bead board with a Queen & a roll out Trundle. It uses the Loft Bath - Which brings us to the most UNIQUE part of the house - A place the kids will be clamoring to call their own - THE LOFT!
The LOFT is true Multi-use Space. There are 3 Single BERTHS each w/individual reading lights, TV/DVDs & under bed Storage Drawers for all their “stuff” - Plus a Full size bed alcove that serves double duty as a bed & extra couch/play area. It comes w/loads of shelves to store all the board games that are provided for your enjoyment.
But the loft is more than just a place to sleep - There is a second ENTERTAINMENT Area with a comfortable recliner leather couch for lounging.
A brand NEW POOL table
A full WET BAR w/antique corner sink, frig & microwave for late night popcorn. Even a PUSH BUTTON drink dispenser the children (or beer drinkers) will love.
The bath is a classic. All white Subway tile w/mosaic floor & Vessel Sink.
But it is the Ocean you came for so there is plenty of Outdoor space - TWO COVERED PORCHES w/UNSURPASSED VIEWS & loads of Teak seating – Rockers, Benches, 2 large Tables/Chair sets on the porch and lawn plus 1 on the balcony , Adarandack Chairs - 2 Slingbacks - plus a large open Patio & grassy lawn with Stainless Grill and Outdoor Shower.
Call right now for more info and the web address for a slide show of OVER 50 PHOTOS of the house. I am always here.
The FIRST FLOOR – It is totally self-contained. You share nothing. It has its own Greatroom, Kitchen, Garage, Laundry, Oceanside Covered Lanai & Outdoor Shower and Grill.
The look is different but charming in its own way. All STONE FLOORS, even the walls on the Porch. The Kitchen is actually larger than the main house. All Stainless with long Glass Block under cabinet window. Great light!
The Master is Ocean side w/ Queen bed & Anderson sliders to the Oceanside Lanai. The Second Bedroom has a King & a rollout wooden trundle. And if you need more beds, the footstool in the Greatroom amazingly converts to a Single.
The bath is white subway tile with Pedestal sink & Jetted Soaking Tub. There is PLASMA TV in the Greatroom & TV/DVD in each bedroom. Wireless Internet too. See VRBO 75520 for complete writeup & calendar.
I am also a Realtor so if you fall in love with St Augustine like I did, I would love to help you find your own place on the sand. Just call. I always answer my phone.

- Beachfront : Direct on the sand - Wide Beach with NO CARS - and NO CAT WALKS - The ocean is right at your door.
- Oceanfront : BEST IN TOWN- 1. The SAND. It is like powder-not coarse ground up shells like Vilano & South Ponte Vedra. Great for drip castles! 2. THE OCEAN IS AT YOUR DOOR STEP. There is no long raised boardwalk like further south where you can have a 5 minute walk across the dunes to navigate with cooler & chairs before you ever get to the water. Here the Ocean is right outside your door. 3. There are NO CARS. This is a major distinction. Imagine trying to play paddle ball with cars continually passing by & having to be on constant baby alert. Not while you are on vacation! Be sure and ask if the home you are considering is on a Drive Beach. 4. The beach is PRIVATE & WIDE - No HIGHRISE condos – just the locals – And deep. Lots of room to play in the sloughs. Some in Vilano/Ponte Vedra are narrow & steep. It affects the waves. Too short to ride. 5. Our waves are THE BEST IN TOWN! The locals even have a webcam on my roof so they can check the surf before they come out.

It is so nice to walk over to a restaurant for breakfast or send the kids out for a fish sandwich instead of having to cook. We have one right on the ocean just 2 doors down. At the end of the street are 3 restaurants – 1 with Live outdoor music & a swimming pool for its guests. Also within walking distance is The Pier. FREE live Concerts every Wednesday in the summer. New Splash Pool for the kids. There are plenty of great restaurants along the street. Several with live music. Plus Intracoastal Waterfront restaurants. A Local Sports Bar, Publix and Starbucks are only 1 mile away. Downtown St Augustine about 5 minutes. There is Fee Tennis & beautiful YMCA for swimming or workout with daily or weekly memberships. Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
I am a Jacksonville Realtor who fell in love with St Augustine Beach. As a child growing up in a small town in middle Tennessee my family visited my Jacksonville relatives every summer. They would drive an hour every day to take us the Beach in Ponte Vedra. Those days of riding the waves, building drip castles and searching for shells...are the most vivid memories of my childhood. About 11 years ago I decided to move my family to Jacksonville. We settled into an amazing planned community called Eagle Harbor. A wonderful place to raise a family I recommend to everyone. It was then we discovered Anastasia Island and the idea of Vacation Rentals. I realized I could "create" a place where other families could build those memories. I hope it works and becomes a major part of your family tradition.

Owner's Map of Private Homes
When I walked into this 1926 beach cottage I knew it was the one. I wanted big. Big enough for several families to come together comfortably, Cousins, Grandmoms, Uncles. A place to reconnect and enjoy each other away from the demands of the outside world. That was the whole idea. But since it’s a duplex it still works for single families. Very versatile. I decided to totally gut it and rebuilt it as a vacation rental. Everything is new. Only thing original is the Pine Floors and metal roof. I created 2 oceanfront Master Suites on the Main level with a private downstairs where some could get away from the action and retreat. The upstairs loft was designed to appeal to all age levels. For the little ones, each berth has its own TV and DVD. A big hit! For older ones, a Pool Table. Even a wet bar and amazing ocean views. It is the best beach in the area. No cars. No Boardwalk. The ocean right at your door and lots of rocking chairs and outdoor space to enjoy it. I added books, games, even a piano and guitars. I am old fashion & still think families should sing together. Lots of restaurants within walking distance if you don't want to cook all the meals. Bikes, Surboard rentals and “lessons” at the end of the street. I hope you will come back again and again. I want you to feel like it is "your place at the beach". And I wish you many memories to cherish.

What a magnificent home! We had the greatest experience at Chautauqua. We rented the top 2 floors for 3 couples and 2 children, and couldn't have been happier. The view and beach are amazing. We had coffee and dinner on the porch every day, which was the epitome of Florida relaxation. My chef-sister loved the ammenities in the kitchen. The beds were super comfortable, and the upscale bathrooms made us feel like it was spa-time every morning. Another reviewer compared it to Pottery Barn, which my mother also had said. It is very close to historic St Augustine, where we went several times. I highly recommend Opus39 for fine dining there. There are also cute places just down the street (Mango Mango Grill), for take-out or a more casual dining experience (i.e. with children). My daughter still talks about wanting to go back to "the beachhouse" (she's 2), but that sums up how our entire party felt. We will definately be back!

We rented both levels of the Chatauqua for a week. Great house, incredibly rennovated and very clean! The location was perfect with the walkway to the beach right in the back yard. We walked to local restaurants & shops. Plenty of towels and the linens were crisp & white. The kids loft was a huge hit with the pool table. The house was fully stocked in the kitchen and also had lots of beach chairs & boogie boards. The owners were quick to respond to only a couple of our minor needs. Wonderful vacation! We highly recommend the Chatauqua for a great beach trip.

Hello Linda, In catching up with the 17 family members who stayed with us last week at the First Floor and Main House, it was unanimous that everyone had a great time. The location and layout of the house, the views of the ocean, and the beach/surf were incredible. Also, we frequented the convenient Beachcomber restaurant next door -- did you know they have a 4 Star rating? We would seriously consider coming back again next year. Sincerely, Tony Ettorre

This house looked nice in the pictures and I had actually seen it from the beach, but we didn't get the full effect until we stayed in it for a week. I have family in the area and I've been coming to the St. Augustine area beaches for over 40 years, since I was a small child. We've stayed in houses all up and down the coast from Summer Haven to Crescent to St. Augustine Beach, and I can honestly say that this is the best house, by far, that we've ever experienced. I say this not only because it is a beautiful house but because if you factor in location, amenities, space and construction you have the perfect beach retreat. Our group had 8 adults, 4 children and a babysitter and we never had space issues. The upper level is perfect for children, with 4 bunks (with their own TV's) and a bathroom. We actually had trouble getting the kids out of the house to come to the beach. The bottom levels had not only 6 bedrooms but also 5 baths, so nobody got in anyone else's way. We've stayed in large houses before, but never one as well constructed and modern as this. An obvious ground-up remodel, this place is pristine inside with a gourmet kitchen, beautiful fixtures everywhere and all the modern conveniences, including top of the line full size washer and dryer on the main level and a new washer and dryer and full kitchen on the bottom level, enabling us to separate the couples without children from the early risers. Equally impressive (to me, at least) were the plumbing and electrical systems. We had great water pressure and no clogged toilets all week, which was an all time first. The air conditioner kept the whole house at a steady 71 degrees all week, which was also a first, as the houses we've stayed in before never had systems that could keep up. We had no problem with anything in the house all week. It's on the part of the beach where cars aren't allowed so we never worried about the kids while we were on the beach. And we were one house away from the Beachcomber restaurant which has a great breakfast. We were in the house all of 10 minutes before we decided to rent it again next year. As a matter of fact, I've already made the reservation. I only wish we could've been there for more than a week. This was the first time we'd ever stayed at a house at the beach that was actually nicer than our own, so if you're looking for a true luxury vacation, this house is well worth your money. Just save me my week and enjoy. You won't regret it.

We had a family get-to-gether for three members celebrating birthdays in August. The house looks exactly like the pictures, so what you see is what you get. Everything was very nice. No one complained, not even the kids. They were happy to have their own floor and stayed up stairs playing. We loved everything about this house. Thanks for sharing your home on the beach. You have done an awsome job remolding this home. Were ready to come back already!

We (the UNC Asheville Women's Soccer team) stayed at the house instead of staying in Jacksonville (where we played our games). We generally stay in hotels when we travel and either eat out or get food for the bus trip. However, this house was big enough for 19 players, two coaches and an athletic trainer to live together for three and a half days! Amazing!! We were able to cook (kitchen is very well-equipped), family style, all of our meals while we were there which was wonderful. The house is beautiful, spacious and efficiently planned. We even had a mean game of Pictionary one of the nights in the living room with much laughing and screaming! The pool table, piano, and guitar were all big hits with the team. There were big tables (inside and out) used for studying, eating, and hanging out. There were places to simply unwind all over the house. Even with 22 people, we felt that we had plenty of space. The balcony, on the second floor, became a nightly ritual for the quieter folks among us to sit and talk into the wee hours of the morning. It overlooks the ocean and was just spectacular at night. We could not be happier with our experience at the Chautauqua! It was a trip that my players, staff and I will never forget!

This was a wonderful beach home for a family wedding. We had five families (22 people) stay here for the entire weekend. We rented both houses and it was perfect. Everything was first class. The bathrooms are top of the line and there are enough for everybody. The bedrooms are wonderfully appointed. Even the beach furniture is top of the line. Al you need to bring is your food and a bathing suit. The only items we could not find were a pot holder and a cork screw. Highly recommended.

What a great house! Could not have asked for a better location on the beach. We had our whole family stay for a week and felt so pampered. The house was extremely comfortable and the amenities were top notch. Anything we needed was there for us. Had a great time and would not hesitate to return. So glad that we found you...Chautauqua. Fantastic house!! Twenty members of my family (four families) got together for a week in July 2008 to celebrate my 60th birthday. We rented the whole house and there was plenty of room for us all. My brother is a contractor who works in historic restorations. He was very impressed with the workmanship and quality of the materials in the house. The kitchen is great and worked well for cooking for a large crowd. The beach is right out the front of the house and spectacular. My son commented that this location is like being at Disneyland, you can walk to great attractions. Everything anyone could possibly need for a GREAT week at the beach was provided. Great place for a family reunion!!!

My family just stayed at the beach house to celebrate our Mom's 80th birthdayand it was fabulous! We had 18 people and everyone enjoyed it tremendously. No one wanted to leave! I would recommend this property to everyone who wanted to have a great relaxing time at the beach with high end surroundings. Everything was just perfect.
