Haleakala Cloud Cottage, is an extraordinary petite size 3 bedroom, 2 bath country cottage. Here you may enjoy the most peaceful setting on the island of Maui, where you can escape for a restorative vacation while surrounded by authentic luxury.

Provided for your comfort is a deep soaking redwood wine-vat shape hot tub spa, a wood burning Scandinavian cylindrical stove and fireplace, a contemporary gourmet kitchen, 5-star hotel quality beds, linens and leather furniture, a campfire pit in the garden with firewood, lounging furniture, gas grill, and a Sony home theater system with plasma monitor and DVD.

Visitors to Haleakala Cloud Cottage will be enchanted by one of Maui's most elegant and plush upcountry mountainside homes, where scarlet sunsets and glittering sunlight highlight a panoramic view of the west and south shores of Maui. Beyond the scenic coast and valley views lies an open expanse of deep blue Pacific Ocean. The views are further framed by the off-shore islands of Kahoolawe, Molokini and Lanai, which seemingly slip over the horizon with the setting of the sun.

Looking further northward and across the "Valley Isle's" isthmus and you will see the dramatically sculpted lush green West Maui Mountains. Resting silently behind you are the tranquil gentle slopes of majestic Haleakala. While listening to the sweet thrilling of abundant song birds, you may find the open panorama of hundreds of acres of surrounding pasture lands to be most calming.

As the Cottage resides on the slopes of Haleakala Mountain at approximately 4500 feet elevation, during the afternoon a natural sunscreen frequently billows overhead in the form of "Haleakala Clouds". The comfort giving natural phenomena bless the area with a break from direct sun rays. At their whimsy, these playful clouds let sunshine sporadically crash through to bounce off the emerald color pastures where they reflect brilliant colors to delight your senses. Evening temperatures are cool and comfortable - just perfect for sleeping under a down duvet and also ideal for soaking in the steamy hot tub. During the daytime, the weather upcountry is warm but comfortable and never so hot that artificial cooling is necessary.

For those of us needing to keep in touch with the world, there is a wireless internet connection, a fax machine on a separate phone line, a printer with photo-printer, scanner and copier.

As if all this were not enough, spoil yourself by being delivered to your Maui upcountry escape by helicopter! Yes, Haleakala Cloud Cottage has a nearly indiscernible landing pad which blends into the surrounding landscaping. A helicopter can drop you on the doorstep from Kahului airport, or take you to or from Hana for a one-day field trip, or for a hop to Lanai Island to play golf for the day. It may even be possible to fly to a location in West Maui where you will be met by a shuttle to a yacht for a privately chartered sailing excursion, whale watching or snorkeling adventure.

Although your home away from home is an ideal retreat for rest and relaxation, the world-famous award winning sandy swimming beaches of Maui are not far away. Drive just 20 minutes to the Northshore beaches of Baldwin and Hookipa, Paia Bay, Tavares Bay, Mama's Cove and many other ocean access spots.

Snorkeling, swimming, boogie boarding, windsurfing, kitesurfing, surfing and other water sports are reasonably accessible. The balmy beach resorts of Wailea, Kihei, Kaanapali and Kapalua are 30 to 75 minutes drive, which makes for comfortable day excursions to all parts of the island. Exotic Hana is a fantastic day trip easily launched from the Upcountry Keokea area.

Upcountry Maui is our favorite locale as it combines rural country living with many of the island's best restaurants, art galleries, and boutiques. Surrounding the cottage are large pastures that once were home to horses and small farms. Still, many kinds of tropical fruit and flowers are available for you to harvest on the property.

The charming villages of Ulupalakua, Makawao, Paia, Haiku and Pukalani are nearby. There you can purchase world-class original art by Elan Vital, Sherri Reeves and other renown Maui artists, organic produce, fresh roasted coffee beans, local made wines, jams and other farm-fresh foods.

You may walk along the bucolic local single-lane narrow road from the Cottage to Grandma's Coffee Store for hot java and home-made pie, pastries, and sandwiches, or to a church for Sunday service, or for a game of soccer in a nearby playfield. Basic groceries and sundries are sold at two charming antiquated stores founded by Chinese immigrant families that have been in business since the turn-of-the-century. Energetic guests may walk or bicycle the 6 mile journey to Tedeschi Winery, a great picnic spot, located in Ulupalakua on the meandering stretch of road from the backside of Hana, which features fabulous pastoral and ocean views.

Also, ready to grill-yourself complete meals can be delivered, or you also have the option to request fully cooked ready-to-eat dining, including salads and snacks for between meals.
