BOOKING & RATES
'Instant book' for the home with 3 bedrooms (sleeps 10 max). Pls enquire for extra room pricing (these are never rented separate to the main house so no sharing with strangers)

AVOID RESTAURANTS & GROCERY STORES - we have an EXCELLENT, long-standing & MUCH LOVED IN-HOUSE COOK, Milena (extra charges - direct to her). Have Milena TO PRE-SHOP for essential & COOK AN ARRIVAL MEAL for you. That really takes the sting out of a travel day, especially for the kids (& moms & dads!)

Expect all mod cons & flexibility. Book the house & add extra space if your plans change. ADDITONAL ACCOMMODATION IS ONLY AVAILABLE AS PART OF THE MAIN RENTAL & NOT SEPARATELY (no sharing with other guests)

The home is equipped & maintained to be lived in comfortably NOT to maximise rental income.

It’s quiet, secluded & restful in beachside residential K-section but enough in the middle f everything. It’s a very short walk to the surf at the Bakers Beach entrance to Playa Guiones & The Bodhi Tree (sub 5 minutes) & main local amenities (15-20 minutes). Around the corner is Bodhi Surf, Agua Tibia surf school & Olas Verdes' surf school / restaurant .

You wake to the sounds of the surrounding jungle, happily far away from the noise & main thrust of construction in north Guiones. Breakfast on the terrace, & watch the howler monkeys in the treetops.

This is now the 7th season of ownership & we continue to maintain Casa De La Luna to a high standard through a rigorous maintenance program that keeps the jungle, insects & the elements at bay. No small task. You'll find quality furnishing, equipment & fittings plus a decent stock of basic self-catering items & toiletries so Luna feels like a home-from-home. And a good stock of toys and gear for babies

LOCATION IS EVERYTHING
On the doorstep; Agua Tibia & Olas Verdes surf schools, El Manglar Restaurant, The Bodhi Tree Resort (Spa, Yoga, gym, restaurant, juice bar)

For those who are new to the area, Playa Guiones offers an unrivalled blend of Costa Rican authenticity, modern convenience & natural beauty. A 200m nature corridor runs the entire length of the beach keeping bars, condos & general construction at bay. You can sit on your board watching the sun set over the pacific or rise over the jungle. Stunning. The flora & fauna are nothing short of astonishing – whales, dolphins, turtles nesting, birds galore & teaming jungle.

The area has been sympathetically settled for decades, largely by US citizens so the working language is English & standards are high. Don’t expect a boisterous night-life or lots of tourist shops though. Nosara is quiet, laid back, rustic but civilised with amazing restaurants, great facilities & friendly Tico service.

The surf is world class; not tide dependent, consistent, catering for all ability levels plus tuition standards are high. There are other breaks nearby & Playa Pelada is a walk round the headland path.

It isn’t just a place for the surfing fraternity by any means. There’s world-renowned yoga, great spa & massage facilities. There are outdoor adventure activities in abundance. You can snorkel, horseback ride, rent quads & mountain bikes, zip-line, paddle board, fish blue or fresh water, cruise for dolphins, cave dive, visit animal sanctuaries & in season watch turtles nesting or whales. Just for kids you have a skate park, Nosara Kids Camp, Day Camp, tennis, mini-golf & dirt-biking. There's so much in a 1/2 mile radius. Ostional (8m north) is a must to watch 10,000s of turtles laying eggs (Oct-Jan) & hatching (Dec-Mar)

Just around the corner is the main hub of Guiones, 15-20 mins at a stroll via the 'jungle path'. It has everything you might need: wide variety of restaurants & bars, surf schools, drugstore, medical clinic, bank, car, quad & cycle rental, souvenirs, bakery, organic food, massage services even a tattoo studio & tennis courts. Heading the other way for a few mins you have the Bodhi Tree for classes & instructor tuition.

ON THE INSIDE
The house is three storey, connected by a spiral staircase so working from the top down:

The 3/F is BR1; there’s a vast & very comfortable master/honeymoon suite taking up the entire top floor. You truly get away from it all even with a houseful of company. It has a custom, Balinese inspired king bed, queen bed, furniture, & matching decor. The en-suite comprises his & hers sinks, shower plus a generous walk-in closet. There’s AC, ceiling fans, high timber ceilings, a large balcony overlooking the pool, & a second dual aspect balcony.

The 2/F is the hub of the house. The bedrooms on this floor are to the rear of the property. In BR2 there's a hand made ‘English king’ bed (US queen) & furniture, hand-carved art, good storage, AC, ceiling fan plus a large private terrace overlooking garden. BR3 is for sharing & for kids; generously proportioned with 2 twin over full bunks, storage plus a desk & smart TV. Again it has its own private terrace but small children should be supervised as there’s a drop beyond railings to the ground floor garden. These two bedrooms share a bathroom & open onto a small vestibule off the main living area.

The open living / kitchen space establishes Casa De La Luna’s comfortable feel from the minute you arrive. There’s ample sofa seating, a smart TV, Blu-ray player, selection of movies, games & books for all ages. Two huge patio doors open out to the covered terrace & then the pool so you feel like you have indoor/outdoor living all in one. There's a third large patio door facing west to catch the night breeze. There's AC & three ceiling fans inside, two on the terrace & it’s actually great to sit in the evening with just the fans going, drawing in the cooler evening breeze & listening to the jungle at night.

The kitchen won't disappoint if you want to self-cater or love to cook. It’s modern, & spacious. It has all the amenities, including quality appliances; built-in stove/oven, fridge/freezer w/ice maker, dishwasher, blender & kitchenware. There’ll be a small stock of essential pantry items & water to get you off the ground. You'll find decent basic toiletries, a hairdryer, fire extinguisher, 1st aid kit, sewing kit, torches.

On the 1/F at the bottom of the spiral staircase you'll find the laundry - a full sized washer & a dryer, laundry products & coolers.

ADDITONAL FLEXIBLE ACCOMODATION

Please enquire for additional rates:-

Besides the listed 3BR/2BA house but still an integral part of it, Casa De La Luna can cater for varying budgets & group sizes at additional costs. You can add bedrooms bedrooms 4, 5 and then 6 plus the casita kitchen for groups over ten (enquire for rates).

BR4 - Off the staircase there's a door though to BR4. It’s spacious, has an en suite, AC & ceiling fan. There are 2 queen beds & a sofa bed & covered terace garden.
BR 5 - entrance to main house is via casita kitchen / BR 4 or separate external door. There are 2 queen beds & a sofa bed, AC, separate bathroom, well stocked kitchen with 80" stove and sideXside fridge.
BR6 - king bed, ensuite bathroom, walkthru closet, patio garden, entrance to main house is via casita kitchen / BR 4 or separate external door.

If you are unsure of your final requirements, book the main house (min. stay terms apply) & then add the extra room(s) for some or all of (but not longer than) your stay at a later date. Please ask for additional rates. Extra rooms are not rented separate to main house.

ON THE OUTSIDE
The grounds are professionally landscaped. You pull up through a secure gated to a parking area & enter the house up a flight of steps to the walled pool & patio on the 2nd floor. You’ll find bespoke, secure racks for surfboards & beach gear, a hose & outdoor shower around the parking area to wash down & keep the sand at bay.

The terrace patio includes a covered, shaded grill area & plenty of outdoor seating & dining space for 14.T he beautiful pool has loungers & sunbathing area. It’s mostly walled & has an arch gate giving privacy from the parking area. The patio connects to the open concept kitchen & living area through twin sets of French doors. Opened up it’s so lovely to sit out at night. In the morning watch the hummingbirds on the ginger (in season).

GENERAL AMENITIES
AC & ceiling fans in all bedrooms, & communal rooms. High speed wireless internet, security alarm & lighting, secure parking, safes, lock-box, surf board locker, owner on site, grill, external shower, TV/DVDs, books, games & toys, baby gear & toys, laundry.

EXTRAS
Cleaning, cooking, shopping can be arranged with my housekeepr, Milena. She really can cook, pre-shop & is very reliable & honest; a cost-effective alternative to the restaurants. This is a real bonus travelling with kids and is a great way to take the pain out of your arrival day.

QUESTIONS & FEEDBACK
I’m always pleased to answer questions. Equally I appreciate candid feedback. If at any point during your stay there’s a problem please shout & I will do my best to remedy things asap.

A good time!
We had a great time in playa guiones at Nikki’s house. We had the in house chef Melina cook for us multiple times and I can tell you it was the absolute best food we had the entire trip. The pool is elevated to the second story so it makes you feel like you are closer to the animals when swimming. Any house issues we had Nikki was on top of fixing them. The walk to the beach is a short one and we loved going down to watch the sunset with the rest of the town. Because this town is located in the lush jungle it took us a bit to get our footing but once we figured where things were we loved exploring.

Best Family Vacation
We loved our time at Casa de Luna. Nicky is amazing - so genuine, kind and helpful. She gave superb directions and super recommendations on restaurants and where to shop for various items. The house was perfect for our family of 7 and my brothers family of 4. The kids loved playing in the pool for hours at a time. Milena's cooking is an experience that it an absolute must have and we enjoyed the leftovers the following day. The beach is rustic and beautiful...my kids enjoyed the tide pools, hunting for seashells and surfing the waves. My husband and I loved our strolls to the end that contained magnificent cliffs surrounded by waves crashing against tall rocks that peaked out of the ocean. This is our first time to Costa Rica. It was so special and we hope to return again!

Great Family and Friends Vacation!!
We stayed at Casa de La Luna for a week with 3 families and it was wonderful! The room upstairs is incredibly spacious. The house laid out well for adults as well as children. The meals that we had prepared for us at the house were delicious. Definitely a must do one of the nights. Nicky is very available and can answer any questions you have. She is a lovely woman and is very hands on, if there is an issue she will be right on it! One member of our party ended up leaving his car keys in the safe after we left and Nicky was able to get them sent to his home in CA. I think that says everything there is to say about Nicky.

Nicky & Milena were GREAT!
Cozy place close to the water with plenty of room for a couple families. Enjoyed the pool and patio along with the location of Nicky's house to the beach and town. Nicky was great to work with as our trip was scheduled for 2022 but a hurricane detoured our trip to this year. She worked with us to help move and was great to communicate with for preparations for our families. Milena, the house CHEF was amazing. She cooked a typical Costa Rican meal and it was FANTSTIC... Even all the kids enjoyed everything and the best part was the left overs! Please keep in mind that they are on a septic system and this does require some ATTENTION to your travelers but nothing you cant handle... If you are looking for a great place to visit that is low key, off the big roads and a more local experience then you have found your place! Thanks Nicky and Milena!

About the host

I was a UK CPA but frankly I'd rather chew glass while burning on a cross than practice as an accountant. Now semi- retired, I flit between the UK and Costa Rica, blessed to be able to indulge my greatest passion, travelling, and at the same time own this most beautiful, comfortable home as the perfect stepping stone into the Americas.

Why they chose this property

Casa de le Luna is a refreshing change from modern architecture. It has a real tropical, Costa Rican Colonial look and feel which makes it art of your vacation experience rather than just somewhere to stay. Meanwhile the home is finished & maintained to an extremely high standard with the same benefits of a just-built contemporary home.

The owner manages both the maintenance and rental sides of things so you get a focussed, personalised level of service from someone who genuine cares if you have a perfect stay or not. The owner lives on site & can be immediately on hand if needed and is supported by a great team. Whether it's ideas what to do with the kids, you want to organise a birthday or know where to get great organic veg, you have only to ask.

The home was very well designed as a spacious family house not a rental machine. It was well constructed too. Under current ownership since 2015 the property has undergone extensive remodelling, redecoration & refitting with many add-ons to combat what can at times be a harsh environment. That has been followed up with a proactive maintenance & decoration schedule. So aside from Casa de la Luna being clean, bright and well maintained you'll find good infrastructure. Things like freshwater holding tanks, power surge protectors, regular fumigation, serviced AC units, a security/fire alarm can make all the difference to the enjoyment of your stay. It may never happen but it pays to be prepared.

If you want Caribbean-style, hot-and-cold running condo's & golf-carts then you want a different Costa Rica. But if you want jungle, day-long surf, outdoor activities galore, quiet up-market comfort, a family friendly feel, to be off-the-beaten-track & feel safe without hiding in gated community, in a place so teaming with flora and fauna that it feels 200% alive, then this is paradise! It's why so many people come back year after year.

What makes this property unique

IT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO ME THAT PEOPLE HAVE A WONDERFUL STAY at Casa de la Luna.

I mean that sincerely, I get a lot of pleasure from it and I am happy to put in all effort necessary to make it happen. Life isn't rehearsal, most of us don't have unlimited time or funds so getting the vacation right is a seriously important business in my book. I want Casa De La Luna to feel like a real home-away-from-home. The house should be something that you remember as contributing to your vacation and not simply a place you stayed in that did the job at the right price.

THE HOME IS VERY WELL EQUIPPED, PRESENTED AND MAINTAINED in a destination where standards vary wildly and price is sadly no guarantee of good quality. I put a lot of care, love & pride into the property and, biased as I am, I think the home is pretty hard to beat in terms of a combination of exceptional value-for-money, high quality and prime location.

CONCIERGE SERVICES OFFERED BY THE OWNER so real help is readily on hand. I am generally on site, almost certainly in high season, invisible unless needed and always more than happy to assist. If I can help you plan your vacation, hit the ground running on arrival or assist during your time here, then just please ask! Anything from Thanksgiving Turkey to birthday ideas. There is a world of difference between staying at Casa de la Luna as opposed to an agent-managed property. I care 100% and you& the home are always my first priorities.
