Coffee on the porch with hummingbirds flying around, roosters crowing in the distance, and the morning sun coming over the mountains was a highlight. This northerner also loved the fresh breezes blowing through at all hours. The cottage is as charming as the pictures--and clean, organized, and easy to settle into. Judith flooded us with information, all of which was helpful, accurate, and spot on. She's a terrific host, and we hope to stay at her place again. By the way, a 4-wheel drive vehicle is a necessity for getting up the steep road to the cottage. But the bumpy ride up is worth it.

We stayed at Catch n Keep for 5-6 days during our honeymoon. It was comfortable and spacious, and the owner, Judy, was helpful from the moment we booked. I loved the bright colors. I was a little nervous at first about there not being locks on the doors or a safe for valuables, but we had no problems and felt very safe there. I think being so far away from Cruz Bay on difficult roads makes it unappealing for thieves. :-) It was nice to have access to wi-fi and a clothes washer - we stayed somewhere else that didn't have these, and that is fine for a week or so, but very nice to have after that. All in all, a lovely place to stay.

I just got back from my first visit to St. John and will go back for sure. When I do, I'll stay at Catch & Keep cottage again. It was delightful coming "home" everyday to this private villa. The porch (complete with hammock and cool sea breeze) was heaven, as was the entire place. We almost stayed at a campground because we didn't want to spend a lot of money, but this is 10,000 times nicer for not much more money.... amazing value for all you frugal folks like me! Judy is THE BEST too. SOOOO helpful - we fell in love with her and can't wait to stay there again!

Just got home from a 5 day visit to St. John. Had a wonderful time staying at Catch n Keep. It is peaceful and lovely, just enough off the beaten track to be quiet, but a short drive from everything you might like to do on the island, very well appointed with nice amenities. Judy is a wonderful host- there when you need something (like a band aid), very enjoyable to talk to, knowledgeable about the interesting history and current politics going on in St. John, but otherwise she makes herself scarce and you have the utmost in privacy. I highly recommend this home for your stay!

My husband and I recently took a trip to St. John to celebrate his 30th birthday and we stayed at the Catch N Keep cottage. It was amazing from the moment we arrived and were greeted by Judy! The cottage was bright, open, and perfect for our trip. We especially loved the stone shower and all of the screen doors which allowed us to feel the wonderful breeze. There was a grill that allowed us to cook out, a well stocked kitchen with all of the utensils and cookware that you would need, and plenty of coolers and beach supplies. Judy was very knowledgeable and made our trip extra special by giving us tips, directions, and recommendations while we were on the island. The only complaint that I have is time there was just not long enough. We cannot wait for our return trip to St. John and would highly recommend staying at the Catch N Keep cottage. Thank you Judy!!

Just came back from the vacation on St. John island, stayed at Judy's cozy cottage for two nights, enjoyed every minutes. The view, the deco, it is hiding in the hill but close to everything. Trunk bay beach is only 20 minute drive, grocery store and restaurants within 5 minute drive. We enjoyed the lay back at Judy's place, cool breeze in the evening, beautiful sun rise in the morning, too much to say, if you are person enjoy the nature you will fall in love with the place :) We would love to go back and stay longer in future... Judy is a very nice lady, she gave us many helpful suggestions on the island. Thank you Judy for lending your beautiful cottage, wish to see the addition to your cottage soon!

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful cottage for 4 nights in January and wished it could have been many more. We were so sorry to leave. The cottage is immaculate, beautifully decorated, spacious, private, and quiet. We certainly hope we can return next year for another stay in heaven! Judy, the owner, goes out of her way to be helpful and hospitable. We couldn't have asked for a better vacation. I highly recommend this cottage for those seeking an authentic experience of St. John.

A charming and comfortable home away from home. Catch n' Keep allowed our St. John experience to be what it was; beautiful, relaxing, simple and natural. The cottage is maintained in such a way that it not only allows you a taste of island life, but a taste of a real life. The simple and carefully appointed dwelling was a constant reminder of the pleasures found in a simple and careful life. Additionally, convenient to all the island has to offer, without being amidst the offerings. Judith was a perfect host, as absent or present as we needed, highly amiable, down to earth and simply a good person to have met.

My husband and I were interested in a true St. John island experience and found exactly what we were looking for at Catch and Keep. It is nestled in the Coral Bay hillside with beautiful tropical landscaping. It has a natural environment with comfortable furnishings and all the creature comforts that are needed. Having meals on the deck, reading a book or taking a nap in the hammock or couch, watching the hummingbirds at the feeder and the feel of the breezes were heavenly. Beautiful...

We stayed at Catch-n-Keep for 11 days and we loved every minute. The cottage is perfect for a couple and has everything you could need for a perfect stay. Judy is a great host and we never even knew she was below, you feel as though you have the house to yourself and she is below if you need her. The cottage does not have a water view but we never missed it. It is a quiet area with constant breezes. The open layout is perfect for the wind to flow through all day long. The pictures are just how you will find the cottage, colorful and welcoming. We enjoyed the island charm of the decor. The white walls and high ceilings make it feel very roomy and open which was very important to us. There are HUGE screeened double doors that open to the deck in the kitchen, living room and bedroom. The bathroom is lovely with a stone shower that has lots of charm. The walk from the drive to the cottage is only a few steps which is very welcome after a long day of beach going. The deck is wrapped around the cottage on 2 sides with plenty of seating and a hammock. We did a TON of research looking for the perfect cottage and we LOVED everything about this cottage and plan to return for sure!!

Dear Judy, Thank you so much once again for sharing your paradise with us for over a week. We felt so much at home from the very beginning. The apartment is beautiful, caribbean style, lovely decorated and everything you need. We enjoyed every minute at home, on the beautiful porch, relaxing... We did not miss the missing seaview at all, the gardens, green hillsides and surrounding nature was at least equally nice. Judy was there when you needed her with help and recommendations, but also left us our own space so we could spend a private vacation. We came a long way from Switzerland, but every second of travel was worth it - we had such a great vacation! Thank you once again for everything. Kindest regards, Tinka & Sacha

Owner response: To all my past Guest Friends who have taken the time to write, thank you so much for conveying to others what you enjoyed and will remember about Catch n' keep Cottage. I believe you understood what I was trying to share with you, a chance to experience "Island Life" in a real home, functional but simple, where much of your daily routine is spent on shaded decks, in the midst of different birds, flowers, trees and vistas, enjoying the breeze or dozing with a book, visiting our beaches and finally being lulled to sleep by the gentle night sounds instead of noise. I try to tailor my help to as little or much as you need, and thus support you in the type of vacation you have been looking forward to. If any of the tropical fruits are ripe, or if there is a local function or cultural event I feel will enhance your time here, I try to alert you to it. So many of my guests from Europe appreciate being able to experience something different and authentic for they come to be on an island and know all that entails. Others wish privacy, relationship or renewal time and I try to pre-smooth arrangements so your vacation starts when you step off the plane. And when its time to return home, I also hope if you've seen some of my comings and goings, heard my stories, or watched me try to keep the 'bush' at bay, you'll realize that full-time island living may not be for everyone the way Island Vacations are... so you leave relaxed, refreshed, maybe a little bit sad to go, but with fresh appreciation of your 'world' you are returning to. Its been my pleasure, and I thank you all. Judith

Hi Judy,Just wanted to thank you for sharing your little piece of paradise with us. The cottage was so charming and homey. We missed our little dog we left at home but sweet Buddy was a great host and let us love him up on a regular basis. We’d recommend your place to anyone who wants peace and relaxation in a gorgeous island setting. It was truly one of the most memorable vacations we’ve ever taken. Whenever I need to escape for a few minutes I’ll just visualize sitting on the veranda, the warm sun, gentle breezes, scrappy hummers and the cat purring in my lap. Doesn’t get much better than that. Thanks Again!

WOW, From arrival to departure our stay at Catch N Keep was fabulous !!!! Ms. Judy is so sweet and Buddy (DOG) as well as Maurice (Cat) were great. It was my husband and our 2 girls who stayed and the cottage worked out perfect !!! You will find everything you need to enjoy your stay on the island. I can't think of anything Ms. Judy doesn't provide to make your stay a most enjoyable one. The covered deck looking out over the valley was peaceful and the breezes were lovely. We hated to leave such a peaceful place. The kids just loved it there and we will definately go back and visit Ms. Judy and her furry friends.

I was just recommending this cottage to a friend and realized we had never left a comment! We are ready to come back. This was the perfect honeymoon/getaway spot for us. The home was clean and cozy. We had everything we could have wanted from kitchen utensils to guide books. Judy was so kind and available when we needed her, but we also felt we had a totally private spot in paradise. I can still imagine the island breeze and relaxing on the porch. We easily drove to beaches and restaurants. The little grocery on the corner was really convenient.

We had such a wonderful time in Judy's cottage and St. John! I had been to St. John before and stayed at the Westin. And let me tell you, this was so much better! Coral bay is such a lovely side of the island that is much less trafficked and therefore private. Judy was wonderful and made our stay so nice. The house was SUPER CLEAN which was just wonderful as that can be worrisome. (We're extremely picky too!) The house had basically everything we needed and more. She even has copies of all of the guides so you don't have to bring any! I was initially worried about not having an ocean view, but the mountain one was just spectacular as were the morning breakfasts on the porch. We would definitely stay here again!

Catch n Keep Cottage is just that, you never want to leave it. It is just as described and the photos don't do it justice. You will never miss an ocean view, hot tub or air conditioning. You don't need it here, so why pay extra for it. Judy is the best. She has a great new washer (inside joke). The kitchen and grill worked out great to save on some meals. My husband bonded with her dog to the point they went for walks and left me to read on the porch. Heavenly! I would go back in a minute.

Catch N Keep is awesome! We stayed there for our honeymoon and it we couldn't have made a better choice. Wonderful breezes, adorable decor and complete relaxation. Every night we'd head home from the beach to our own little hideaway on the hill. It felt like home. You need to be an intrepid driver to get there but it's worth it.

Owner response: Road has been graded and widened since comment. The hardly-any-traffic road is a boon for relaxation and privacy, but every few years we several neighbors have to cooperate on the regrading.

We recently stayed at Catch & Keep Cottage for twelve days and it more than met our expectations. The cottage was as pictured, but pictures can not capture the wonderful peaceful comfort of the cottage. We had stayed at a cottage last year that was higher up (and further out) with an unbelievable ocean view and we had some concern that we would not like Catch and Keep as well since there is no view of the ocean. We were wrong! We actually enjoyed the mountain view and location better! The cottage with it's wooded location was shaded much of the day, the open design of the cottage allowed breezes to keep us cool and the peepers sang us to sleep at night as the birds woke us up in the morning. The cottage was perfectly located just a mile or so from the main intersection in Coral Bay which made for easy trips to the beaches. We found it enchanting to have such a wonderful view of the mountains and valley below. If you didn't know you would think you were in Brazil! Judy (the owner) was as available as you want (or not) and friendly and helpful. One evening when we were out to diner the power was out on the island for a short time, as happens occasionally on St. John. When we returned we found that Judy had set out and lit candles for us and then came back and blew them out since the power came on before we returned! If you want to get a real feeling for what the the island and the people that live there are about, then you can't go wrong with Catch & Keep. We'll definitely be back. After a taxi, ferry, taxi, and ferry from Virgin Gorda via Tortola; after the hustle of dealing with holiday crowds in Cruz Bay and finally getting some lunch; when we finally arrived at Judy Kane’s Catch ‘n’ Keep cottage, we felt we finally deserved this oasis of tranquility in the hills above Coral Bay. As my wife experimented with the hammock, I couldn’t resist taking pictures of this photogenic cottage before – as I knew we would – we strewed our own “stuff” all over.We were on St. John primarily for the snorkeling, which was excellent. We have rented a variety of cottages on a variety of islands, but nothing has ever matched the charm and comfort of Catch ‘n’ Keep. It seems to emerge out of the hillside. The colors are a delight to the eye. The furnishings and kitchen equipment are as complete as you’ll find. There is always a breeze coming up or across the hillside; if that’s insufficient, turn on a fan. If the morning sun is too intense, simply close the storm shutters. And not to worry, it’s shaded all afternoon. It’s built for living. It's island style, a place for relaxing. The porch is the best room for relaxing with a morning cup of coffee or an afternoon rum punch. Be sure to notice the woodwork on the rails and stairs. Built with love. Before we left, we finally got a chance to actually meet Judy. Seems she keeps a full schedule, and we didn’t spend all our time at her cottage – although it was tempting! But Judy is a delight herself. It was a pleasure to sit down and chat with her. We quickly felt like old friends.Judy, thanks for everything, especially just being there and sharing your cottage. We hope to see you again soon.Al & Daphne

Ryan and I stayed at Catch 'n' Keep Cottage during the last week of March and would stay there again in a heartbeat. It was ideal for a couple and you cannot beat the price! Located in Coral Bay, this eclectic cottage provides privacy and tranquility. Judy has a great guestbook where she has recommended the best places to dine and has several books describing all of the beaches St. John has to offer. If you want to head out for a night over to Cruz Bay for a little more night life and shopping, the drive was only 20 minutes. Our favorite beach was Salt Pond Bay on the south eastern side of the island, close to the cottage with great snorkeling and sand. Most importantly, be sure to take advantage of breakfast on the porch and beverages in the hammock. The view is breathtaking! ~ Kerri Moser and Ryan Lever Boston, MA

We spent three weeks at “Catch ‘n Keep” during February and March 2006 and were delighted with it. The cottage is open, bright and spacious and always seemed to have a delightful breeze flowing through it. We also loved the proximity to Coral Bay which is our favorite part of the island. We had a great time; our only dilemma was which beach to go to each day. Judy is a warm, friendly, helpful person who it was a joy to meet.We recommend it highly.Chris & Cliff Vermilya

"All will be revealed" was the last answer to our many questions when my husband and I were deciding where to spend the month of February, 2003. We were met at the dock and transported to your lovely mountain home overlooking the valley on St. John. We loved the spacious open one room home with a large two-sided deck with a table (seating 4 or more), hammock, and full laundry facilities. The Weber gas outdoor grill and full kitchen made cooking and eating at home a pleasure. The king-size bed was wonderful and Cable TV helped us enjoy the sports channel. We appreciated Judy's maps and helpful tips on places to visit, eat, and find out of the way beaches. The beach chairs and coolers were a plus when we wanted to be away for the day. We enjoyed our stay with you so much we came again in 2004 and you made us very welcome. Now we are good friends! I highly recommend your home to anyone who wants a romantic, lovely, quiet getaway! Judy,Tara and I want to thank you for a wonderful stay in St. John. When we arrived, we found the Catch N Keep villa to be just as advertised – even better than we expected actually. We found it to be clean, comfortable and inviting. The privacy it offered was exactly what we had hoped for, yet the proximity to some of the hiking and snorkeling made for easy access. During our stay, you proved most helpful when needed, especially when you delivered our passports half way across the island so we could catch our ferry! We would and have highly recommended this villa to several people. Thanks again for a wonderful stay.Warm regards,RobPS, Please give Buddy a kind pat for us. I was lucky to "catch" the opportunity to rent the Catch 'n' Keep Cottage loctated above Coral Bay on the island of St, John U.S.V.I. I stayed for two weeks during the "High" season and felt so very comfortable about all of my living condidtions.. The cottage exceeded my expactions on style, comfort, island feel and the all important aspect of water pressure.. Judy Kane, the operator of this cottage, is professional, congenial, value oriented and a wonderful host.. On top of that she is just a damn good woman - and us men need a little extra motherly advice now and then. I know I will be back! Cheers!

We travel from Europe to enjoy the beaches of the Carib and meet the beauty of St. John's Island and with the warmth of his inhabitants. Especially the sharm of Ms. Judith Kane, who was very nice and attentive with us. We lodge at her house "Catch" n "Keep" and our stay was very agreeable in it for us. The house is very clean and has clarity great, you can be having breakfast, reading or resting in the hammocks that exist in the porch, from where there is spied part(report) of the jungle that exists in the island, and you come to be seen by the gecos and the nice small lizards that exist for the surroundings, and some smallest colibri!. We find the very cozy house, the kitchen has of everything and the bed, broad and very comfortable, to be able to recover forces for the following day. Though almost the whole day we were spending it walking and doing snorkel for the numerous beaches of white sand that exists in the island. For us it was like to be in the second Honeymoon, we recommend "Catch" n "Keep" to newly married also, ¡It is a delight!

Catch n Keep is a special place on a special island - we were there recently for two weeks and had the best vacation of our lives. The screen doors all around, the nice long porch with hammocks and a great view - you can’t help but feel relaxed and happy. After snorkeling each day we would come back, shower and find a good restaurant to eat a leisurely late lunch in Coral Bay or Cruz Bay, then come back to hang out at Catch n Keep for the rest of the day. What amazed us was the sounds of the tree frogs after the sun went down - what a symphony to listen too! We would definitely vacation again at Catch n Keep again - what a beautiful place!

Catch'n'Keep was perfect for us. We were looking for an affordable St. John rental so we could stay two weeks to really settle in and unwind. When we arrived, we realized we had really made a 'find'...the place is a gem. The setting is lovely and the house is really charming. We loved the Coral Bay area and easy access to many things to do, but it was so tempting to just hang out and read on the porch in a hammock. On our more energetic days, we took the beach chairs, our snorkel gear, and a cooler, and headed for yet another gorgeous beach. Sunday brunch at Miss Lucy's is not to be missed. One day we rented kayaks from Crabby's and explored Hurricane Hole...that was terrific. There was a great local band Saturday night at Skinny Legs...we even danced. We had the best vacation. We really recommend Catch'n'Keep and we'll be back!

This is a new web site so previous guests are not represented. However, their surprise, delight, and positive feedback have been consistent and many have returned for extended stays. Guests are amazed they can stay in a 'real' West Indies house for less than an eco-tent and are thrilled to experience actually living in a typcial island cottage instead of a masonary condo. I feel their enjoyment of Catch 'n' Keep has blessed and contributed to the overall feeling and personality of the cottage and that that will be your experience as well. Judith Kane
