Champagne view and location with a stale beer home.
The view and location of the home were fantastic. The open design of the common area was very nice for entertaining. The beachfront yard was also nice and access to the ocean was great. The house however was old and in a state of disrepair. Many light fixtures or fans were either broken or missing bulbs. The industrial fridge had no obvious instructions or settings and froze all of our food and drinks. The icemaker and one of two microwaves were non functional. Air conditioners did not work properly. The bathrooms were dated and not completed to the detail expected for the price. The master bathroom was newer. The bed frames were all loose and squeaky, mattresses were comfortable. All dated tube television sets and the ipod docking station did not work. A pile of sand, rocks, crushed concrete and yard construction equipment detracted from the curb appeal. Understanding that this is a beach side property, the home and deck areas are also in DESPERATE need of an exterminator. Per the owner "We know some of the things in our home need to be fixed, and as we are selling the house we do not plan to fix them".

Owner response: sorry for your problems. the house has been sold and is not beung rented at this time. to bad because it is a great rental sorry these rentors had a few issues but they must not have been so bad as they waited three months to send in a complaint there were two weeks in the early fall that i did have air conditioning problems but the renants never told me the air conditioning was not working. i ask several times for them to let me know if anything was wrong and the wholw time they were there they never complained. i found out when the next tenants check in that i had to replace the air handler and the air conditioning wad broken. the bathroom were redone 7 years ago and are not dated so i am not sure what they are talking about yes the ice maker and the built in microwave are broken but ice was provided for tenants and a new microwave was also provided.
The property was poorly maintained. Roaches crawling from kitchen drawers. Mouse droppings in bedroom along with open decon package in corner of bedroom. Air conditioner not functioning upon arrival(85 in house). Repaired last night of vacation. Ruined vacation!

Owner response: I am truly sorry that you had a bad experience at my home. I do think all of the problems stemmed around not having a working air conditioner, as after the air conditioner got fixed I have not had any complaints from any other tenants. I really feel bad as I would like for you to have enjoyed your stay more. My home usually gets wonderful comments and I try hard to take good care of my house, and as you can see from many other tenants that these are not typical problems that my tenants experience. I did not even know that there was an air conditioning problem until you had checked in. I got it fixed as quick as I could. We needed a new air handler and a new thermostat.
We always have a family reunion in Charleston every other summer, and this was, by far, the best house yet! The location of the house was perfect for families with young children. The pictures really do not do this house justice. The view is unbelievable!!! You will feel like you are on your own island. And the owner, Mindy went above and beyond to help our family out and showed amazing southern hospitality. I hope we can go back every summer.

Owner response: thank you so much for the very nice comments. as you noticed I love my house as much as you do, and I love for my tenants to enjoy their stay and feel comfortable with their surroundings. I would love to have you back next year. Thaks for leaving the house so nice and clean.
Our family rented this house from Mindy while we were in town for a wedding at Boone Hall Plantation. We had members of both sides of our family staying together, and we could not have asked for a better place for a mini-vacation retreat! The house was spacious and welcoming, with the best stocked kitchen of any house we have ever rented. The property was amazingly beautiful. The VRBO description of "our own little Gilligan's island" does not do it justice. We have young children, and they had the BEST time splashing on the beach when tides were low, and fishing off the steps and relaxing in the hammock when tides were high. The wrap around deck on the back of the house is set up for spending time outside, with numerous groupings of chairs, tables and swings - perfect place for adults to enjoy the beauty of the ocean! The location of this house is fantastic, and none of our group wanted to leave. While we are not avid vacationers to the Charleston area, and usually vacation in the Gulf of Mexico, we will definitely be back and calling on Mindy when we do return. I can't say enough good things about this location - Thanks for providing a wonderful, scenic place for our family to enjoy time together!

Owner response: Wow, what an awesome reveiew. Thank you so much for saying such nice things. I do try to keep my house well equipped, as it is nice having some of those extra things. I also love my house and I love sharing it with other groups that can really appreciate the warmth of our home and our spectacular views. Thanks agian, i am so glad that everyone had a wonderful time.
We just returned from a wonderful week's vacation at this lovely beachfront home. The views are spectacular, probably the best on Sullivan's Island which is what we wanted most and we were not disappointed. The house was clean, tastefully furnished, very comfortable and spacious. Mindy was lovely and quickly responded to any questions or concerns that I had before I even arrived. She greeted us when we arrived which is unusual in a rental house, it made it so much more personal and showed that the owner actually cared rather than the usual businesslike ordeal you have to go through in a rental agency. The wildlife viewing was wonderful; dolphins, blue herons, pelicans, and grackles were such fun to watch. We brought our own bikes and rode them right on the beach and the sand bar every day. Next time we come, we realize we do not even need to bring our own, as the house is well stocked with bikes. Our daughters' family came to visit us and brought young children. There was so much inside and outside of the house for them to keep busy and happy. We did loads of cooking, the kitchen facilities were very nice and well maintained. We went out to eat at Shem's Creek and then spent one afternoon in Charleston just walking everywhere. I would definitely recommend this property and Sullivan's Island to friends and families, it accommodates every age. I really enjoy off season at the beach, and it was perfect.

Just About Perfect
Just About Perfect
My wife and I have rented this home on two separate occasions and loved it both times. We're sad to see that it's already booked this year for dates we would have been able to go. The porch is huge, wraps the whole house, and you can sit on it and enjoy the ocean breeze and the sound of the waves hitting the rocks, which is an experience you may not have at other oceanfront homes on Sullivan's Island, many of which are much further from the beach. The hammock is perfect for napping and there are stairs down to what is essentially a private beach where there are only small waves due to the sand bar just off shore. The calm water made an excellent place for our 3 year old to play in the sand and wade, but you would not want to swim out past the rock barriers because of the strong current from the channel. When we wanted larger waves, we would walk a little further south. The extra large fridge was a nice touch when we had extended family staying with us. The amenities were more than adequate -- everything was clean and functional. Overall the reason we most enjoyed this house was its proximity to the sea and that's what really makes it stand out.

My family stayed for a few days before my son was married in Charleston. The house was just what the doctor ordered to relax before all the festivities in town. The view of the ocean is spectacular and we spent most days on the beach enjoying all the water activities. The house was clean and had everything we needed to be comfortable during our visit there. Mindy greeted us upon our arrival and we thank her for the great pizzeria recommendation. We would highly recommend this getaway to anyone and hope to get back soon.

Perfect Beach House - Great View
Perfect Beach House - Great View
We had a wonderful time and would like to thank Mindy for her kindness - We rented the house for one week - Our three children and their families were all able to come although everyone was not there at the same time - The house can accomodate six adults and four children very comfortably. It is very close to Charleston so there is a lot to do and see - Our granddaughters ranged in age from 2 to 6 and had a great time on the beach. The porch is gated and provides security but when you have little chldren they have to be watched since you are right on the water. We found the house to be clean and in excellent condition. We would love to return again.

Owner response: Thank you very much for the wonderful comments about our home. We would love to have you back. October is a great month to be in Charleston, as I think the weather is wonderful. MIndy
I have vacationed on Sullivans with my family for the past 15 years or so at different houses and yours is our families favorite. The house is very tastful with everything you need and more and the location of the house with the views of the ocean is just awsome. It's so nice to be able to open the door and be steps to the water, or just sit on the huge deck and listen to the surf. I would recommed this house to anyone! Special thanks to Mindy for going over and beyond what was expected in making our stay so nice.

We stayed for a week when our son got married in Charleston last month. It was great to have a place to relax that week - everyone that come to stay or visit loved the house! From a brunch with 75 people to a small dinner party on the screened porch - the house was perfect for entertaining. We had plenty of tables and chairs as well as dishes, serving pieces, ect. to accomodate everyone. The views from the family room are spectacular - especially early in the morning - I miss that!. We loved walking on the beach and just relaxing on the deck. Can't wait to go back!
