When I was a kid, we used to spend our weekends and summer vacations at a lake house outside the city. Sometimes we would stay for a few days, sometimes longer. Spending time at the lake was magical for me. It was all about family and fun. The lake house allowed work and stress to stay in the city, so when we were at the lake, it was all about good times and great memories. When I started a family of my own, I knew I had to find something similar for my children.

We call our house "Flechazo," which translates to "love at first sight." It is everything a vacation lake house should be: of course it is on the water, with a spectacular panoramic view of beautiful Lake Buchanan, the largest and most scenic of the Central Texas Highland Lakes. And of course it is a fully-stocked vacation house, with all the amenities of home. And of course it is spacious. It is not a cabin or a "cottage" or a condominium; this is a roomy, 1800-square-foot home with three bedrooms, two full baths, laundry room, full kitchen, and large dining and living areas. We even have a two-car carport. But hold on! I am just getting started!

Sitting on an entire acre of lakefront, Flechazo is actually on two lots, boasting a whopping 160 feet of waterfront. Believe me, that is a rare find on Lake Buchanan. We looked everywhere on all the Highland Lakes and this is the one we fell in love with! The lot is filled with mature trees offering plenty of shade to the sun weary. Part of the waterfront is sandy beach, another rarity on breezy Lake Buchanan. Best yet, enjoy the refreshing swimming pool with diving board just off the back porch.

There is nothing finer than floating lazily in the pool while taking in the breathtaking view of the Texas Hill country just beyond the sparkling lake. We have got two twin beds and two full-size beds in two guest bedrooms, and a queen in the master, so there is plenty of room for eight. <b>But no more than eight.</b> We are often asked if we can accommodate groups of 10 or 12, and unfortunately we simply can't.

Private and secluded, yet only a short drive to the small town comforts and restaurants of Burnet, Texas, Flechazo is the perfect getaway for a weekend or for the season.

  • What a pleasant it was to arrive at Flechazo, a fully equipped vacation home! There was plenty of room for my wife and I as well as our daughter & her family which included 3 small children. Furthermore, the large assortment of toys & games kept the grandchildren involved most of the time that they weren't in the pool. Although it was October, the pool water was still warm enough to go swimming. This is definitely a place to return to for a pleasant quiet vacation with either friends or family.

  • We had a great stay at Flechazo, away from the big city. There were enough bedrooms for our two daughters and their husbands, the beds were very comfortable, and the house was well equipped. I loved our morning walk to the marina and seeing the deer. Hopefully we will be able to return and spend more time there and catch some fish. Thanks again!

  • The whole experience of spending the weekend at this home was awesome. My wife and I enjoyed our stay very much, and found the whole experience from making the reservations, swimming, riding our bikes, and the fantastic views of the lake, and sunsets to be very enjoyable.

  • The owners have a beautiful placard in the kitchen with the definition of Serenity. However, it is hardly necessary, since Flechazo is the epitome of Serenity. We spent a lovely week there during March 2006 and regretted leaving. It has all of the comforts of home - wonderful kitchen and comfortable beds and a view to take your breath away. Convenient to fishing, hiking and other recreational activities.

  • We stayed for a long week-end in January 2006 with our family from Scotland. We had a blast playing games, fishing and just spending some down time with them. It is unusual to find such home comforts in rented houses, but we sure found it here, the beds were so comfortable. We will be back some time in the summer to use the pool.

  • We enjoyed our stay at the lake immensely! What a nice place to get away and relax! It is a great location, not too far from Austin and other small towns, yet you feel as if you've left Texas and gone on a vacation far away! Very refreshing. The view of the lake is really gorgeous and, of course, the pool is such a nice amenity. The house itself is so homey and comfortable, too. All in all, I would totally recommend this little getaway spot for anyone interested in a little rest and relaxation!

  • The lakehouse view is absolutely beautiful!! We spent a weekend and felt like we had been on vacation for a month! The house design is very comfortable, the pool wonderful (it even has a diving board!) and the lake right at your back yard. The sunsets are gorgeous! A great place to escape your hectic eveyday life.

  • It was just so nice. When you go away somewhere you hope to be able to relax and enjoy your time off, most of the time that isn't the case. In this case it was. And, there were six children in the mix. We swam, we played games, we laughed, we talked. The time went by much too fast. The view is beautiful and the sound of the water is very calming; day and night. It was a great escape!

  • We've stayed at cabins on the lake but a cabin this is not. It is a full size house with all the accomodations. It is peaceful and serene with a great view. The lake is never congested with boats. December is a great time to go. Burnet is full of feastivities. If it's not too cold, you can sit in the lounge chairs on the back lawn and watch shooting stars. There is an observatory a few miles up the road where you can get a close up look at the stars. There is even a place close by that takes tours up the lake to view the eagles in their winter nesting grounds. This is a goldmine getaway retreat. We'll be back. Stu and Gwen

  • We had such a relaxing stay at this property! The lake was beautiful from our reclined chairs in the back yard. What I really liked is that I'm not a lake-swimmer, but I was still able to cool off because of the pool! At the end of our stay, we were about to leave when the kids discovered the beach a few feet down from the back lawn. So we pulled our chairs over there, along with some wine and snacks, and spent another two hours under the shade of a tree while the kids played in the sand and shallow waves.
