Great Getaway

Guest: Charlotte, NC (Charlotte, NC)
Date of Stay: 12/30/11 Review Submitted: 01/06/12

My husband and I recently stayed in this well-appointed cabin that boasts a beautiful wrap around porch equipped with a large rough-hewn swing, rockers, picnic table and Weber grill, all overlooking a gorgeous mountain landscape. The owners were so thoughtful to provide a ready-to-light fire-pit for roasting marshmallows and all the ingredients for s'mores. Inside was equally impressive with a beautiful fireplace, huge tv and comfortable overstuffed seating, a well-stocked kitchen, and two spacious and comfortable bedrooms and two bathrooms. One bedroom actually has a rollaway bed available, too. A loft overlooks the living area with two large windows framing that beautiful mountain view. The owner has a huge big book of resources for activities in the area and dining available, but we enjoyed the quiet of the cabin and the view so much that we only made it out for a little shopping in Lake Lure, which was a lot of fun. Everything we needed was right at our fingertips and it was a perfect quiet getaway.

Just what we needed

Guest: Mike & Karen (Charlotte NC )
Date of Stay: 12/26/11 Review Submitted: 01/03/12

We lead complicated lives and just needed to get away for a few days of peace and quiet after Christmas. This cabin was perfect. Truth be told, the pictures and description just do not do it justice. It's in a beautiful gated community with huge lots. It's off the beaten path as well as close to everything. There are great views of the distant mountains from both porches. The house has been positioned on the property such that you can view the mountains from most of the interior! The kitchen is well stocked with all the cooking utensils we needed. Asheville is a just an hour or so away via beautiful Hwy 74A, and Black Mountain is up Hwy 9. Of course, Lake Lure & Chimney Rock state park are just down the road. We love the Lake Lure area and are regular visitors. We have found a new home away from home. This cabin will always be our first choice. I was really impressed with the fast response from the owner and the ease of obtaining entrance to the property. You will not be sorry with this vacation cabin!

Most relaxing vaction we've ever had !!

Guest: Cheryl (Cape Coral, FL)
Date of Stay: 09/18/11 Review Submitted: 10/30/11

My husband and I rented this log home for one week in Sept. The house was beautiful, well maintained, clean and it felt like “home away from home”. It was the most relaxing vacation we have ever had. If you want a place to get away from it all, this is the place to go. Drinking our morning coffee in the rocking chairs on the front porch, breathing in the fresh air and taking in the mountain views. Having a glass of wine in the evening on the front porch looking at the stars and listening to the crickets chirping. Built a fire in the fire pit and made smores while the coyotes were howling in the hills ?. We did take a ride into Hendersonville and spent the day exploring Main St. Had an amazing meal at the Mezza Luna Restaurant. Had a couple of rainy days that we spent watching movies, reading a good book and working on a puzzle. There is even WiFi and a computer available to use, washer & dryer and a full kitchen. The owners were very helpful and available to answer any questions we had and offered lots of suggestions on things to do and where to go. If we ever go back to the Lake Lure area we will definitely stay here again!!

Owner response:There are wild turkeys in the area as well. They travel in large families of at least 8. We're glad you enjoyed your stay. Jennifer and Rick.

Quiet, Beautiful, and Relaxing

Guest: Tina (Riverside, NJ )
Date of Stay: 07/16/11 Review Submitted: 08/08/11

My family and I rented this cabin for two weeks and it was the first time I had ever been to North Carolina. The cabin was beautiful and looked exactly like the pictures that are listed on the website. We found the home to be very relaxing and quiet, very clean and well maintained. The area was beautiful but was much more rural that I expected. We found plenty to do but we had to travel some distances to get to them. Also Chimmey Rock which is about 20 minutes away was very nice but the stores and miniature golf closed up early at night around 8:00pm which left not much to do close to the cabin but once we realized that we found other ways to occupy our time at night. There are plenty of board games at the cabin and having the computer and wireless internet was a great resource because we did not know the area very well. Overall we had a great vacation and if we ever decide to travel here again we would definately stay at this cabin. The owners were great and were very accomodating when we had questions. The black book was a great resource for things to do in the area and also the journal that previous guests had written about their vacations in was also a great resource for places to eat and things to do in the area. Some of the places we visited were Chimmey Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Linville Caverns, Asheville, Hendersonville, Nascar Hall of Fame in Charlotte. Overall a very relaxing vacation.

Quiet, welcoming and relaxing.

Guest: Nita (Moultrie, GA)
Date of Stay: 07/10/11 Review Submitted: 07/26/11

My husband and I enjoyed staying at the cabin for the second time in two years. Everything was as we remembered it from our first stay and we enjoyed it just as much. You can be as active, as relaxed as you choose to be. The only problem we had was the gate access code was changed at 3:30 PM, but the President of the association and his wife came by on their golf cart and let us in,. They gave us the new updated code. We, then in turn, gave them the owner's phone number so they would have current information as well. The pictures on the website are accurate. The property is well-maintained. Don't miss the Lake View Restaurant's "prime rib" night on Wednesdays. Do make a reservation. We didn't have one, but met a gentlemen on his way out who had just cancelled---so we went back in and dined. It is a buffet, but the food and service are great. Another place we like to eat is LaStrade on the lake. The duck population is larger than last year. Visit Chimney Rock (has an elevator), so you don't have to climb all the way to top. Visit the shops there as well. Go to Harrah's Cherokee Casino---plan your trip so that you get to see "Unto These Hills"---show is at 7:30 PM. See the museum. Don't miss Apple Valley orchards. They start having fruit for sale in early to mid-August. We enjoyed seeing Hendersonville. I would suggest that the new owners provide firewood and the ingredients for s/mores. The new owners may consider asking guests if they want breakfast foods (small size) of english muffin, butter and jelly so the first thing you don't have to do is run to Ingle's for groceries. Oh yes, the gas stations close early on Sundays, but there is a gas station at Ingle's which would most likely still be open. I suggest you arrive before dark for your first visit. I love to look out at the mountain view from the living room, see the sunset and watch for lights to go on farther up the mountain. We really enjoyed both our stays and hope to return.
