What a great deal for 2 couples!

This house was not over sold to me by the owner and she worked with me on all the details, so there were no surprises. The house is very beach like, so no one was worried about just having fun and relaxing. We are not t.v. watchers but internet was nice to have available (why would anyone spend the money to have an ocean view if they just want to watch t.v.?). We did not find that the signs were offensive, I just think the owners rent to so many guests that little reminders help everyone in the party know what is expected. This was nice for me because I did not have to tell the other couple what to do, they just took it upon themselves to do their half. Arch Cape is so quiet too, besides the roar of the ocean.

Not clean, management attitude not welcoming, sheets and towels cleaned by previous guests

PRO • Good location, • Roomy • Good open layout on second floor • Nice views • well equipped kitchen • good supply of towels • hot tub that worked • wireless connection that worked • unique lofts that were fun for the kids • washer and drier Con: • Grimy (cobwebs on fireplaces in downstairs bedroom and living room) • the whole place needs a real good cleaning • Dried boogers in the upstairs loft (yuck • downstairs bedrooms very damp feeling • lack of DVDs to watch • limited TV channels • limited lighting over dining room table • Threatening, unwelcome attitude present in all the signs posted. NOWHERE was there a sign that said WELCOME GUEST. But there were a lot of signs telling us what we would be charged if we did not follow the guest cleaning instructions. In spite of paying a cleaning fee, we were threatened with a $25/hour fee if we did not follow instructions for laundry when we left. • How uncomfortable I felt, knowing that the towels and sheets were the responsibility of the last guests. How do I know they washed them properly? This is what I expect a professional cleaning service to do and this is what we expected when we paid the cleaning fee. • In an attempt to be friendly, one sign was worded “to those of you who are respectful of our home and responsible adults please ignore this note; we know you will do your duty and we do not want to insult you. We hope you will return many times and we are happy to have you in our home”. Unfortunately, after we read all the other heavy handed threatening signs, we were already insulted and will certainly NOT return many times and NOT recommend this place to others. • This rental could really be a good value but not without a good cleaning, a better attitude on the part of management and washing sheets and towels being included in the cleaning fee.

Owner response:So sorry this young man has no Christian upbringing - my mother taught me that "if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all". In other words what Jesus Christ said "Do unto others what you would have them do unto you". Or maybe he needed to bring his mother with him to wait on him hand & foot because he is so "OCD", in a hotel other people wash your sheets, also. I would like the opportunity to critique his home/business/work? (because I guess he is perfect)By the way he only paid $85 for cleaning - he wants concierge service which you will not get at a private home at $325 per nt. He really needed to spend $600-$800 per nt. and he will still be asked to do his laundry in Arch Cape. The cleaning fee would start at $250 to do all the laundry for 6 beds. We ask these kind of people to go to the Hilton in Hawaii and don't darken our door again. We have many people since 1992 that love our home and come back time after time. Stephany

Had a Great Time

Our family stayed in the house and we were very pleased. There was plenty of room for all of us to spread out and yet stay together. The lofts were a great place for the younger adults in our family. We found the house to be comfortable enough to let kids play and be kids. The kitchen was a pleasure to work in, although there could have been a couple more serving bowls and cereal bowls but other than that it had everything that we needed. We cooked all of our meals there for a week, all but one night. The ocean views were perfect and beach access was easy. I have always stayed in Cannon Beach before and I like being away from all the hustle and bustle, but close enough to go and visit. There was every bit as much sea life to see there as there is when going to Haystack Rock with far less people and restrictions. The only real negative I can think of is that the hot tub could have been a few degrees warmer, we were there on very nice days but if it were much cooler would not have been warm enough in the hot tub. Will be back next year for sure.

We Can Take a Joke, Thankfully

Told by the owner that it was a "Gourmet Kitchen". Only because it has two sinks. Pots and pans don't match most lids. Bring your own cookie sheet because the only roasting pan/cookie sheet is brown black. Had to wash whatever pot or pan before we used it. I threw away staples that were in the cupboard with expiration dates in 2008 or 2009. (Who is keeping an eye on this place?) Take your own wineglasses. There aren't any. Years of dust and grime on all the knick-knacks. The home is sweet, but very old and very little attention has been paid to it. The day we arrived, I threw away three used Q-tips from the bathroom floor, and our family doesn't use Q-tips. Ick. The bathrooms and the sheets were clean, as was the kitchen, but the carpet had large stains on it, the walls were stained downstairs, the blinds didn't always work, the windows and doors leaked in a big rainstorm. Sitting area, comfortably, for no more than four people, and dining table for no more than six. Would not be a good house for a party of more than four adults because most beds are in the living space. Not sure why we had to pay a cleaning deposit because we were required to do all the laundry, leave the kitchen clean, leave the place tidy. I suppose the cleaning people clean the bathrooms and vacuum. That's about it. The property is located in Arch Cape and NOT in Cannon Beach, which we knew, but others from out of state might not, and it's deceiving. We had a great time because we were with our adult children, however, on a cleanliness, maintenance and location level, I wouldn't recommend it. I believe it's worth about half the money we spent. We have rented more than forty vrbo's on five continents. Cleanliness level at and condition of Cape Cottage is in the bottom two or three. The owners were friendly and helpful but their bookkeeping system shows a lack of organization. I was told by one that our balance was late when it was not due for another week. It took four weeks and two reminders to receive our deposit.

We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage and runs on the beach. Rain or shine we were making good use of the hot tub and fireplace. Thanks Stephany for getting us in on a last minute notice! Hopefully, we can set something up in advance for the fall when more family can getaway with us.

We have stayed here when our family rented this house and we just stayed with our friends who rented this house recently and we still love it. The kitchen was well stocked with all the pots, pans and utensils and the baths were well stocked with linens, as my kids go through these fast. The kids liked the lofts because it felt as though they had their own little hideaway. The house is so close to the beach and has a great view. Cannon is just a few minutes by car. Stephany has been easy to communicate with and deal with during our stay. We will definitely return again!

Beautiful view and close to the resort town of Cannon Beach. Our teenagers loved the lofts, everything was very well stocked and clean. Everybody enjoyed themselves immensely. Extended family visited and loved it as well. We would go back again in a minute, we love the area. All of our family enjoyed the beaches and this home. We have pets and loved that it was enclosed for our dogs and we were relieved that our pets were welcome because not many places allow pets.

A BREATH TAKING VIEW

Our stay in April was enjoyable and relaxing. We loved the the homeand the panaramic view of the ocean was amazing. It made cooking in the gourment kitchen spectacular. The fact the house was fully furnished was a refreshing change. The two wood burning fire places and hot tub made for a very romantic time. We will certianly be visiting again in the future. MET OUR EXPECTATIONS AND THEN SOME!

We had a great time in Arch Cape, quiet little community without traffic. Our family stayed in different locations, as the Grandparents wanted their own rooms. The rest of us shared this home with most of the meals enjoyed in this house (14 people were seated for dinner one night) and it was fun to look up the street and see that family was walking down from The Inn at Arch Cape and look the opposite direction to see the kids coming off the beach, just 100 feet away. All of our family liked that they could convene in the 2nd story for meals and still see the ocean. Bringing our two dogs was really important to two different families, so we really appreciated that Stephany did not charge us a dog fee which we noticed in our research to find a home right for our group was being charged individual fees for each dog. We also appreciated that the hot tub did not require additional fees either. Who wants extra fees on top of a nightly rate? Stephany made it simple and helped us make a good decision for our family. This year we were only there for a weekend, so next year we are looking to stay for a whole week and Stephany recommended calling before the end of the year to get our first pick of dates. We have never stayed at the coast with a private hot tub, so it was great to take a dip after long walks on the beach, rain or shine! Our group made a mistake and left the cover off the hot tub but we quickly learned our lesson and put the cover back on, so the adults could take one last hot tub before we closed it up on Saturday night. Thanks for a great stay and keeping your rates reasonable! We will be back.

Cottage

This is your typical cottage and we loved being able to get the family under one roof. The lofts were fun for our older kids and we loved that we could see the ocean even though we can't afford to rent a beach front home. The hot tub got lots of use while we stayed and it was nice to have a fenced yard to keep the kiddos in when it was too cold for the beach.
