Hi Teresa, We had such a wonderful time here and so appreciate the fruit, coffee, linens and how immaculate you keep this place. BBQing on the lanai and breakfast on the lanai ~ so relaxing and beautiful. We recommend snorkeling at Pupukea, the Bishop Museum, sunset walk on Waikiki Beach of course, and a trip to Kokohead. There's much more to do so we'd love to come back. Mahalo Nui Loa.

Thank you so much for hosting our family. We had a wonderful time! Your studio was perfect for our little family (3 & 6 yrs. old). Lanikai is stunning. This was our first "real" vacation with our girls and overall they were delighted with Oahu. Our favorites - Meals: Cinnamon's was delish, Kalapauai Cafe, Farmer's Market - best meals of the trip by far! - and Island Snow - yum. Adventures: Pill Box Hike, Maunawili Falls, Sharks Cove, Lagoon at Ko'olina, North Shore Beaches. Thank you.

Dear Teresa, We have nicknamed your lovely studio "The Grotto." We thoroughly enjoyed your beautiful and lush lanai and felt so relaxed listening to the lovely little birds. All your personal touches made our stay so enjoyable, from the lovely fruits & coffee to the all natural cleaning products - something important to us as well. This well equipped studio was perfect for the boys and I. They loved the grotto pool as well. We look forward to another stay!

We've had a lovely 5 days exploring Kailua! The beach (Lanikai) is absolutely gorgeous. The reef is beautiful and full of colorful fish - great for snorkeling. We had fun hiking on the trail above Lanikai, kayaking to Flat Island, and going for morning runs through the neighborhood - stopping to watch the sun rise over the beach. It was great to have a cozy "home base" to come back to. Enjoyed eating papayas with lime on the patio, and our daughter Vivian enjoyed the lizards. Mahalo

Teresa, (and Summer) Thank you so much for such a delightful slice of Paradise! Lanikai brings back memories. Jack & I so enjoyed our 2 weeks as we revisited the places we called home many years ago. I know you've got the vacation package "down pat" - never did we feel like strangers but as guests in a hide-a-way. MAHALO!

While Teresa is a lovely person, and she is gracious and welcoming, her rental is a converted garage shop with extremely poor insulation. The ventilation is quite poor. You can hear the tenant who lives above your island getaway blow her nose, hear the beeps of the microwave, the blasting tv... and the sounds go past 11 pm and can start as early as 5 am. The inside of the rental is wonderful but this is only a good choice if you don't mind a third party (upstairs tenant) as party of your stay., and you don't mind not having a view, and very little natural lighting inside. Teresa will not give you a refund based if you are dissatisfied. I wish I could be more encouraging but this was our experience.
Owner response:We do our best to make our vacation studio a “home away from home” for our guests, addressing any problems that might arise as quickly as possible, but sometimes things can snowball out of control. After their first night Diane & Lou mentioned that they were experiencing a lot of noise from upstairs. The studio is on the ground floor of a two story building at the back of our property, and we had just rented the upstairs on a long term basis. That day I talked to our upstairs tenant, mentioning that the rental contract defines a quiet period between 10:00 pm and 8:00 am. A very nice lady, she agreed to be more sensitive during that time. Unfortunately, Diane & Lou still felt uncomfortable and left the next day. When a few of our guests have arrived and found that the studio did not suit their needs, we refunded the nights they decided to cancel. Diane & Lou have received a check for the three nights they chose to find other accommodations. We have also insulated the ceiling between the two levels with one to two feet of figerglass foam which cancels out most of the upstairs noise. Hawaii usually has trade winds that keep us relatively cool, even on hot summer days. But when the winds stop, we can experience what is known as Kona Weather and the air can be still, heavy and moist. We do provide two fans and the option of air conditioning for the comfort of our guests while visiting our tropical climate. The studio looks out onto a private porch (with barbecue) that surrounds a 50-year old mango tree. Some of our guests enjoy taking their complimentary Kona coffee, local fruit and chocolate out onto the porch to enjoy the morning sunrise and bird song. Many of our guests have mentioned that it is nice to come back to our cozy, Lanikai studio after exploring O’ahu for fun in the sun. We hope you do too! Much Aloha, Teresa Johnston

Teresa, I thoroughly enjoyed staying in your studio, Cousin! You made me feel at home upon my arrival Friday and throughout the week. Thank you for introducing me to the nearby Koolau Range and the 6-mile trek we did on Super Bowl Sunday. We deserved the Heisman Trophy for doing the full loop! Thank you for introducing me to the Lanikai Beach on a full moon night and low tide. A beautiful walk under the moonlight! Buzz's Steak House is so yummy! Until we see each other again...

Teresa: Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable. We managed to see much of Oahu in the week that sped by. You are blessed to live so close to some of the best beaches that we have seen! The weather cooperated for the most part and we did not mind the very tropical rains that arrived in the past two days. All the best, Doug & Gail.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful studio with us! It was extremely perfect for our family. We wanted a place to cook and call our home while here and that is what we found here! The pool, although not used as much as desired was great to play in and around. We were able to easily travel around the island. We enjoyed: North Shore, H1-83 Drive, Waikiki, Kailua Beach and Downtown, Lanikai Beach, many more beaches we do not know the names of, and Pearl Harbor (last day). Kids loved it, we loved it! Thank you!!!

It was such a peaceful stay and so bonding for our family. We loved playing go fish on the lanai with Hawaiian fishcards from the market, doing tricks for eachother in the pool, chasing geckos, walking the Loop, and expecially loved waking up to Kona coffee and watching the Lanikai sunrise. What a beautiful place you have here. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. We were so blessed by you and your amazing home in such an ideal location. Thank you! Aloha & Mahalo Nui. You want to go to Oahu but hate the bustle and crush of tourists of Waikiki? Well, this is the place for you. It took a few short hours before we felt like locals in this charming town. The studio was very comfortable, clean, and furnished with anything one would need on a beach getaway. The owner was very helpful, friendly but not obtrusive. We had a problem with the tv our first day and the owner had a new tv installed the same day! (Not that you need it much, but it was nice to snuggle in and watch a movie after a long day exploring). The pool was lovely but we never used it as the perfect (I mean PERFECT) beach was just a short walk away. This Lanikai location is just right for a quiet getaway or as a home base to explore the entire island. Kailua/Lanikai are great beach towns with restaurants, pubs and the best shrimp truck around. Everything was just a short drive. If you are a walker or jogger the quiet lanes of this neighborhood will be perfect for you. It was just the two of us, but I plan on bringing my kids the next time and stay again in this lovely studio. My only complaint is the lack of window treatments to keep the sun out in the morning- but too not terrible as I was able to make it to the beach to watch the incredible sunrise on a quiet beach access several mornings and greet the myriad of walkers, joggers, and their dogs! If you see a beagle named Tuba on our stroll, tell him we said hi!

This property is in a wonderful location, easy walking distance from amazing beaches. The owners are very nice and a beautiful fruit basket, coffee, and chocolate awaited our arrival with a friendly greeting. We enjoyed our stay here for the most part but did have quite a lot of issues with cockroaches. Cockroaches are very common in Hawaii but with proper extermination regularly they can be minimized. The bedding towels and pillows definitely need some upgrading as they were very old and worn. The queen size bed was good but the daybed needs to be replaced as it was extremely squeaky and uncomfortable. The kitchen was nice but a few more cooking utensils, bowls, and upgraded knives for cutting and chopping are needed. The lanai was gorgeous and the pools was very well maintained. With a visit from an exterminator, a few improvement,s and furniture upgrades this little hideaway could be amazing.
Owner response:Sometimes it takes a youthful, discerning eye to jolt a perhaps more complacent one out of its rut. We do upgrade our linens and towels from time to time, and this is a good reminder to resupply. There are now new sheets on all the beds, four new sets of towels in the bathroom, six new pillows, a set of new bowls, and we have placed a new mattress topper on the day bed to make it more comfy. We are in the process of fixing the squeaky springs, sharpening the knives, and upgrading the cooking utensils. Unfortunately, Bonnie, Becky, & her friend were here for the birthing time of the new spring crop of cockroaches, which caught all of us unaware. Tropical Hawaii is buggy, and we do our best to live in harmony with nature while keeping the bugs out of our home. There are ant & roach traps hidden inside and out of the studio. We supply natural bug spray and punk coils, as well as a more chemical mosquito spray so that our guests can decide which they would like to use. We have now replaced all the cockroach traps and plan to do this more often than recommended. And we have two very excellent housekeepers who thoroughly clean the studio after every visit. Our intention is to create a wonderful home away from home while our guests enjoy their stay with us. Much Aloha, Teresa Johnston

This rental has everything needed for a quiet, restful stay at Kailua. Lanikai beaches are beautiful and only a walk away. Has a private patio to eat outside. Wake up to birds singing every morning. Also, has a beautiful swimming pool. Has washer and dryer, so you don't need to bring but a few changes of clothes. Lanikai subdivision is one of the safest areas. Walking around the beautiful neighborhood is fun. There's also a trail on top of the mountain (we hope to have time to walk it next time). It's close to stores and restaurants. The owners are very accommodating if you need anything extra. Overall, enjoyed the peace and quiet and the beaches. Wish we could have stayed longer!

My son (age 9) and I spent 7 days at this rental on Oahu. We were very pleased. We are quite action packed so each day was a lot of activity (sight-seeing, snorkeling, etc.) and it was such a relief to come back to the peace and serenity of this rental at the end of each day and to start each day listening to the tropical breeze and birds. Lanikai is what I would describe a middle-class to upscale community, which is very pleasant to walk, bike, exercise. Kialua is the next nearby town that has all the necessities (groceries, book store, shopping). The beaches accessed directly from the home after a short walk are spectacular and the views are amazing. Very much the surfing/water sport area that one can imagine Hawaii brings. Teresa and her mother, Mary (the owners) are on site in their separate home and are available for questions but otherwise leave you alone. Very friendly people. It was fun to check the tides each day and to walk the beach. You definitely need a rental car from this location and the drive along Route 72 (Kalanaaole Hwy) is highly recommended for sightseeing and going to Waikiki/Honolulu area. Important: Your cell phone does not pick up a signal at the rental and throughout most of Lanikai. As you drive up the hill toward Kialua, it will pick up again. I would definitely stay here again on our next visit and would highly recommend it to others.
Owner response:We do live in an enclosed community with hills behind and ocean before us, so not all cell phones will work in this area, except Cingular. We have placed a phone (an extension to our line) within the studio, so that our visitors can call out locally for free anywhere on O'ahu. As Gabriela mentioned, as soon as you drive out of Lanikai, about a mile away, the signal picks up again. This can contribute to the peace and serenity of your stay, away from the demands of daily phone calls.
