LA REVERIE (The Daydream) nestles secretly down a quiet country lane in its own south-facing gardens of over an acre. Wonderfully rural in aspect and set in a part of Normandy regarded by some as the most beautiful countryside in the world. We hope to attract people who wish to discover the traditional delights and history of the area and who can appreciate the same in La Reverie.
Cat and I stumbled across La Reverie, a traditional Norman Longere, after spending three months towing a caravan around France searching for a new life and nurturing a desire to create a great vacation property. On first sight we knew that La Reverie was The One! Charming and quaint, but with a strong identity, the house seduced us in an instant. For those who wanted our kind of holiday and who could appreciate the very best we would work very hard.
La Reverie has been restored to a very high standard and furnished with a subtle mix of the old and the new. Art and antiques vie for attention with superb new plumbing and wiring! We have retained as many original features as possible including timber beams and areas of exposed stonework. Revelling in its ambience of charm and intimacy we are proud to offer the house to those clients who are looking for something just a little bit more special.
All around are the gorgeous rolling hills and sleepy fields of Normandy. A fifteen minute walk will bring you to the small village of Le Mesnil Garnier with its one shop and bar where one can buy basic provisions, have a coffee or, perhaps, something stronger! Should you have something more sophisticated in mind, the market-towns of Villedieu and Gavray with their shops, restaurants, and bars are just five and three miles away respectively.
Famous for its copper industry and bell foundry, nearby Villedieu-Les-Poeles has possibly the best market of anywhere in rural France. La Reverie is also only 25 minutes from the gorgeous sandy beaches of the western coast, around 35 minutes from the historic town of Avranches with its Second World War associations, and the incredible Mont St Michel - a fairy-tale castle bursting from the sea! Bayeux and the Normandy landing beaches are approximately 90 minutes away.
Should you feel energetic, wonderful walks and opportunities for cycling present themselves as soon as one exits La Reverie’s drive. Wander the 1 acre garden, play a little Boules or Badminton-or just enjoy a glass or two of wine in the sunshine on the terrace whilst supper cooks on the barbeque. Later, you might like to browse the excellent selection of books - most things are possible at La Reverie! 2008 will be our third season, and Cat and I intend to make every effort to provide a level of service that will delight over every season that La Reverie is offered to the vacation market.
La Reverie will be available all year-round including Christmas and New Year. Please visit our own website lareverie.info Wherever possible, we will try to accommodate requests for short-breaks, weekends or house-hunting trips.
