As a former HI resident, I had planned to stay with family on my trip back home, when those plans fell through I was very happy to find this place to stay. Terry was extremely accommodating, especially since I was so l last minute (as in 2 days before the trip), which took the stress out of what was already a stressful situation for me. I would love to stay here again. First the location was great, the hotel was classy, and the room had all the amenities I needed. Starting with location, the hotel is not in Waikiki but Waikiki is only two blocks away. Since its part of the Ala Moana Shopping complex it is centrally located, close to major bus routes, and easy to get to from the freeways. I took the bus there for a meager $2.50 to and from the airport. I also recommend nearby "Cheap Rental Cars" to avoid high airport prices. The hotel is very nice with a nice pool and fitness center. Although I preferred to run along the Ala Wai and at Ala Moana Beach Park which are right next door. The staff was always friendly and helpful. There is free wifi in the lobby and other common areas with ethernet in the room. Parking was $20 per day which still makes the overall rate cheaper than most other places on VRBO. In terms of the room itself, the bed was very comfortable, the air conditioner worked well and was quiet, and the shower was hot - what more could you ask for. Also although the room is a studio, there is still a small refrigerator, a coffee pot, a microwave and a hot plate. We were able to eat breakfast in the room to save some $$. We were very comfortable there and look forward to staying again in the future. Thanks Terry!
Owner response:thank you so much Emily for your wonderful comments. it was a pleasure to serve you. so glad you had a wonderful time there at the ala moana hotel and in my unit. we are difinitely looking forward for your next stay. stay well and God bless you and your family. thanks again terry and carol

I had a wonderful stay at the hotel, the unit was great, floors, beds, bathroom, all in wonderful shape, with a good view of the mountains. Also with the mall just next door it was great.Buses were easy to catch to any location and the hotel was very helpful in finding tours and attractions. I would love to come and stay again, the prices were very reasonable for such a lovely hotel, there is even has a great nightclub on the lobby floor, you can't go wrong with terry and carol, they a very honest people, thanks again, would love to come again, Conrad
Owner response:thanks so much conrad, glad that you got a chance to visit, thanks for the wonderful statements, would love to have you stay again, we will be looking forward to that. thanks again terry and carol

This first section is what we were told. "THE NEW ALA MOANA HOTEL CONDOMINIUM IS ONE OF THE FINEST RESORT HOTELS IN THE WAIKIKI AREA. IT HAS BEEN NEWLY RENOVATED TOP TO BOTTOM INSIDE AND OUT . ALL NEW FURNITURE AND APPLIANCES.THE HOTEL HAS 6 RESTAURANTS, INCLUDING A FIVE STAR PENTHOUSE RESTAURANT CALLED ARRANDS,WITH ALL GLASS LOOKOUT SEATING. IT HAS SAUNA, MESSAGE, STEAMROOM, STATE OF THE ART WORKOUT CENTER AND ALSO A NEW SWIMMING POOL WITH COBANAS. THERE IS A VERY POPULAR NIGHTCLUB THAT IS HOUSED IN THE HOTEL, IT IS CALLED RUMORS,ONE OF THE HOTTEST NIGHTSPOT IN ALL OF HAWAII.THE HOTEL HAS VERY QUAINT SHOPS INSIDE FEATURING CRYSTAL AND MANY ADORABLE FINERIES, LOCATED IN THE LOBBY AREA. THE ENTRANCE IS ONE OF BEAUTY FEATURING A WINDING DRIVEWAY WITH DOORMEN AROUND THE CLOCK THE TAKE YOUR VEHICLE AWAY FOR PARKING. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING I LEFT OUT IS THE BEACH IS JUST ACROSS THE STREET WITH A PARK. THE CONVENTION CENTER IS ADJACENT TO THE HOTEL. WE ALSO HAVE HIGH SPEED INTERNET SERVICE IN YOUR ROOM. THE IS THE ALA MOANA SHOPPING CENTER NEXT DOOR WITH 240 STORES TO BE EXACT. NEIMAN MARCUS, NORDSTROMS, MACYS AND MANY MORE, ALSO THE LARGEST FOODCOURT I HAVE EVER SEEN, WITH PLENTY OF PARKING WHICH IS A COMMODITY IN HAWAII. I KNOW THAT YOU WILL BE VERY VERY PLEASED TO BE VACATIONING AT THIS LOVELY LOCATION" We stayed at the hotel a few weeks ago during the March 11th tsunami. All people from top to bottom were very nice. We did not use the second bed but we were told it would be good for small children. The ala moana mall is located by a ramp and easy to access which has tons of restaurants and some bars. The bed was nice, no issues there. There is a balcony but it is only about 2 inches, you open a sliding glass door and you can lean out. There is a partial ocean view and had a nice breeze that came through. There is only a couple of retaurants and a breakfast restaurant. There is a Nightclub in the hotel, it is open only on friday and saturday nights. There were extra sheets and towels in a drawer folded nicely. The only issues with the room was there was no Iron or Ironing board. It is a private condo so there was no cleaning done during the stay, meaning same towels/sheets for your visit which is typical in a condo stay. My Fiancee was under the impression that it was a condo with a larger space when actullly it was a hotel room that was sold to a private owner. There is a parking charge either park yourself or valet, resort fee and daily charge.
Owner response:thanks scott, for your review, since the recession the hotel has three of the six restaurants open, but they are nice. as you stated the mall next door has several inexpensive restaurants and night clubs for our clients to use. yes the condo is privately own but is well stocked for clients staying short stays, but the pricing i have reflect the savings you will receive instead of renting from the hotel, usually its three times as much. the units are quaint but nice especially for couples with children. sorry about the ironing board and iron, this is a new unit and had'nt been stocked with iron and board, but will be next time, thanks again scott terry and carol

We recently stayed at the beautiful Ala Moana Hotel. Our stay was second to none. Very comfortable room, very clean. The bed was quite relaxing and the linen was fresh. We found that the cost of the room was within reason and we had such a wonderful time. We felt very safe. Thank you Terry & Carol

The Hotel is beautiful, the staff is very friendly and helpful including the garage attendants, the location is great, but this room does not measure up to the hotel standards. You are also next to a fabulous mall and can walk to Waikiki. This is a great hotel just not this room. This add stated before it was changed that there was a king size bed, the bed is actually a double not even a large queen. There is no balcony, you can open the door and look out but you can not step on anything out side the door as it is under 2". There are not six restaurants, there are only two and one is open only for breakfast. The lamp in the room had a burn hole in it and a burn on the wall. Everything was dusty and the carpet and chair dirty. The beautiful comforter and pillows shown in the picture are not in this room, we had a standard hotel comforter. There were dirty sheets shoved in the closet, drops of scented oil on the nightstand and desk glass so when I set something down it got oil on it. If you want to sleep four you will have to do some fancy stacking of furniture in order to pull out the sofa bed. We called and e-mailed the owner on the very first night and have never heard from him again. We were not told how to get clean linens or towels either. We loved the hotel, the staff, and the location but were extremely disappointed in this room!
Owner response:the first thing i would like to say is just call the hotel's owner relations, ask about terry and carols unit, i'm sure they will vouch for us. the units we have own have always been kepted in great condition. as for the clients statements, they are incorrect, they never call me until they got home and email me at that. i was there in jan. with my wife, the unit was in very good shape but we also had the carpet cleaned and also cleaned the skirt on the queen size bed, i scrubed the slate floors myself, just to make sure things were nice for these people. if this were true the hotel, itself would talk to me about this problem and these people. they never did infact when i heard from them i called the hotel myself and ask the owner relations,if there had been any complaints from anyone, and they stated no, that as far as they knew all my clients were very happy with this unit, infact i have had this unit for six years and the hotel has a fund they use to make sure every unit looks the same and have the same color skeems, if there was a burnt out light or shade, they did it, because i have a manager there and i asked her about these things and she stated it was''nt there when her crue cleaned, i pay these people very well to take care of my units and i come twice a year to make sure they are in excellent shape, since this incident, i have a client in the unit for a month, i called her and asked if things were in good condition, she stated that everything was wonderful, but she could'nt hook up to the free internet service we provide. the maintenence crue came in and found out that she was using the wrong channel to receive internet, they fix the problem right away, she call me and they call me to let me know that things were in working order, if any of this is true just call the hotel and ask for owner relations, and see what they have to say about this and me. the comforter is in the same color skeem of all of the units in the hotel. we cannot change anything the hotel has provided for our clients, this is there rules. i also told the clients that this unit did not have a sit out balcony but it goes out about a foot and a half, with sliding open patio doors, there is a sitting area in front of the lanai doors, but you can't sit out on the lanai, again just call the hotel and ask about me and my units, see what they would say, do you think that the hotel would let me rent the units out without them being in proper shape? that would'nt happ

The room shows a king bed..We end up with a Queen bed sagging in the middle..We had booked the room for three weeks..With my bad back I went home after ten days..Had I known the room did not have a king bed I would not have booked it..Very disappointed
Owner response:i spoke to wilfred many times before his actual request to rent, he seemed to be a nice guy. we talked about the unit, he told me that the unit displays a king size bed, i told him that the bed was a queen size bed but will comfortably sleep two, he said that will be fine, so i booked his stay, he says that the bed was sagging in the middle, well my wife and i was there from the 7th of jan to the 17th of jan. he came in on the 18th of jan to feb the 8th. first of all i have a manager there on the premises to take care of any needs the client might have, also my wife and i come twice a year to make sure things are in order, as i stated before, my wife and i was there right before his stay and the bed was in excellent condition, i also had the floors cleaned although they looked fine, just to make sure everything was alright for his stay. the hotel was totally renovated 2 years ago with everything new, including new beds, carpets, stainless steel appliances, marble bathroom counter tops, etc. i don't know what caused wilfred to say the things he said, but it was not the truth, he never call me one time to complain or call the main desk or even complain to my manager, why would'nt he let me know that he felt this way, but he stayed the duration of his stay, i checked with the hotel and they stated the same. i was totally surprised when i saw this statement he made about the unit, knowing i had just left the unit in excellent shape. thanks for letting me tell the truth about this matter, carol and terry

We were disappointed with the size of the room. We were told 4 of us could be there, but it was so very crowded. You have to move the coffee table each night and put it into the chair, in order to open up the sofa bed. There is no balcony, it says there is one, and one picture shows one, bot there is only a sliding door, going nowhere.........I felt that the owner was not truthful to us. This was to be a special "wish" trip since I have Lung Cancer, and it turned out to be a disappointment.
Owner response:i talked to the leilani, 5 or six months before her stay, i told her i had two condos but one is up for sale and it was a larger unit, the other is a smaller unit but by the hotels standards it sleeps four, she said this will be ok, i also told her that if the larger unit was available i would trade with her. the other unit was not available. she also lead me to beleive that her children was small, in other words the condo is small but holds up to four persons, two adults and two children. i did tell her the condo is small but sufficient, i've had many clients stay in the condo with two adults and two children, never any complaints, because i tell them about the unit before i rent it. she always stated that their would be herself, her husband and one child, the children were in their 40's and also i booked for 3 persons on the contract, she brought four grown persons with her for the stay, i'm so sorry that leilani has cancer, but she lead me to beleive the children were small never once stating that they were grown up children or i never would have rented the unit to her. in responce to the balcony, i told her there was no sit out balcony, but she could move the coffee table, open the sliding doors, the landing goes out about a foot and a half. thats the true story. thanks for listening carol epps
