- Wheel chair accessible:No
The House of the Dancing Turtles is just awaiting your arrival to show off her splendor and beauty in the always sunny and warm Kapoho Beach Lots area of the east side of the Big Island. This gated community is highly sought after by vacation renters because of it's beautiful location, close proximity to the sights and sounds of the beautiful Pacific Ocean and for the incredibly private crystal clear, geothermally heated lagoon for your relaxing pleasure. You owe it to yourself to stay in this beautiful home! The large lagoon which is right at your doorstep and is fed underground by the Pacific, is heated to a warm 91 degrees year round. This hale is on one of the most private lots in this area, therefore swimming in the lagoon will leave you with the feeling of being in some far away land.
The hale is decorated in a fun Hawaiiana theme and offers privacy with it's separate ohana that allows for couples to have their own private living and sleeping space. The front house offers 2 full bedrooms, 2 baths and a full size kitchen. The ohana which is generous in size, has a 2 full size bedrooms, bath, and a small kitchen for your use. You'll have the main house for up to 4 people and the Ohana for up to 4 more, but either way, you'll have the entire property to yourself. No other guests will in the Ohana, even if you don't need it. It's your exclusive Paradise! Both living areas offer covered lanai's that look out onto the incredible lagoon.
Just a few minutes walk from the hale are several ocean accesses including the incredible crystal clear Champagne Pond which is where you will find honu (sea turtles) making their home. Just a 5 minute drive down the historic Old Red Road is the Ahalanui Warm Spring Park which is another geothermally heated swimming pond at the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Another 10 minute drive down the Red Road is the historic Kehena Black Sand Beach and don't miss old Pahoa town, just a short 10 mile drive from the hale where you will find the original boardwalks that date back to the late 1800's when this sleepy little town was king in the sugar plantation days. There is great dining in this little town with Italian, Thai, Chinese and Tex-Mex. Hilo town with all of it's historical points of interest, color and famous for it's friendly people is only about 35 minutes away and the ever changing Volcanoes National Park is about a 50 minute drive from Honu Hula House.

Well, we just returned from 10 days over Christmas at the Honu Hula. What an adventure! The house is bright, clean and roomy. We actually rented both houses for the four of us which probably wasn't necessary. The property is large, fenced and the kids 12/16 had fun exploring this and the entire community. Champagne pond is a few houses away. Waiopae was a short drive and well worth a trip or two. The pahoa market was amazing, very colourful sights, smells tastes. Our warm pond was beyond therapeutic. Very zen like. Spent many hours just floating the stress of city life away. Hard to leave this place. High recommend for families with children, as it is a super safe place away from noisy crowds of hotels and touristy kitsch.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The house and ahana was quite comfortable for six adults. We loved the tidal pond and spent time in the morning and evening relaxing in our private paradise. The subdivision was interesting to walk through. Wonderful introduction to the east side of the Big Island. The market in the town of Pahoa was quite reasonably priced and the brochure provided by the owners on what to do was quite helpful. Close to Volcanoes National Park.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We loved the place. The pond is magical, lots of fish, lush vegetation and the garden very pleasant. Location is also great as it is close to Champagne cove and the ocean (although we loved our pond so much we ended up swimming in there mostly). Management was great as well. Would love to go back again in the future.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Aloha Sarah, and Mahalo nui loa for taking the time to send us a review!!! We're so glad that you enjoyed yourself. Honu Hula is a very special place for sure, as well as the East side of the Big Island as a whole! We would love to have you back. Aloha! Mark and Ron with Hawaiian Paradise Vacation Rentals

This was a VERY comfortable house to stay in. Our family of 6 really enjoyed it here. We found this house to be especially well equipped in the kitchen and found snorkel supplies in the cupboard outside. The beds were comfortable and all had a good nights sleep. The house geckos were great and we have more than a few photographs of these colorful creatures. The people that handle the booking arrangements were professional and responsive. I will recommend this house to anyone.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our stay at the Hono Hula House was wonderful! It is a great place for families. We really enjoyed the lagoon was wonderful for the kids to swim in. The adults also enjoyed it. The lagoon was so close to the house since it was in the yard, but down the steps enough that we could tell when the kids were trying to go down by themselves. The beach was well within walking distance. We really enjoyed it. It made our family vacation so much fun. We would definitely return.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

At 50+ years we DID NOT want an extravagant over the top wedding. We wished to spend our money on a dream honeymoon/vacation instead. The Dancing Turtle House was the perfect location for a low key very small (7 people) wedding. We were married under the Gazebo in a very meaningful ceremony. Chery Pascual of Aloha Weddings drove 2 hours to marry us. The setting is fabulous. A warm pond to swim in and down the road a block or so a pond with turtles to swim with. The Wai Opae tide pools are easy snorkeling with beautiful fish and coral. A short trip to Vocanoes National park with a stop at the Volcano Winery and an Orchid farm. And, close location to Hilo are a high recommendation for this property. We would definitely stay here again. We had our wedding dinner at Cafe Pesto in Hilo and another dinner and lunch a Kaleo's in Pahoa. Both excellent restaurants. The pictures on this website did not do it justice.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We found paradise! House of Dancing Turtles and its surrounding area provided a fantastic experience. The wonderful house is comfortably decorated in Hawaiian motiff; kitchen well stocked, beds super comfortable, large deck (perfect for eating, reading, and napping), and gorgeous, private grounds. The private lagoon, beautiful from the photos, was way beyond our expectations with its crystal clear, WARM water and surrounded by the lush foliage. We just could not imagine how wonderful it would be to start and finish our days with floating in the large lagoon. It was a short walk to Champagne Pond for snorkeling, again in warm, clear water. There are other close by areas for snorkeling including the tide pools. The photos well represented the house, gardens, and lagoon. We took the ocean lava tour (lavaoceans.com) to watch the red lava entering the ocean. Spectacular!! It is not to be missed. Mark @ Island Paradise Vacation Rentals was very helpful with recommendations on activities in the area. We will return again with our children and grandchildren!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
