Ski to the house from "Born Free", the ski run leading to the gondola. The house is 120 yards from the ski run and overlooks the magnificent Gore Range Mountains. Named "Chalet du Soleil", this charming four bedroom home is within easy walking distance of fine restaurants and shops. The house is on a large lot. Sledding and playing in the snow can be enjoyed by those with excess energy after skiing. We provide the sleds. The house is equipped with all the amenities you are accustomed to in your own home.
The house comfortably accommodates up to ten people. The master suite features a queen-size bed plus whirlpool tub for two (jacuzzi type) and separate shower room. The other main floor bedroom includes a queen-size bed, bath/shower, and an expansive bay window. The third bedroom on the upper floor has a queen-size bed, two twin-size beds, plenty of closet space, and a large vanity sink area.
The fourth bedroom is, in fact, an adjoining studio-apartment with king-size bed, queen-size hide-a-bed, compact kitchen, full bath, and large walk-in closet. All beds are made up in the Swiss-style with comforters, extra pillows, and ironed sheets. Smoking is not permitted.
The owners, Fred and Thea, live in the house next door and will be happy to make your stay a pleasant one! Their daughter, Heather Kehoe, lives in Eagle and manages the property.

Fred and Thea Rumford have owned this charming mountain home since 1966 when it was built as a weekend getaway for their family. Skiing is a large part of their lives. They have raised their children to grow up with a tremendous appreciation for the alpine lifestyle and they take great joy in now seeing their grandchildren follow in the ski tracks of their parents.
The Rumfords also take pride in upgrading and maintaining their beautiful home each year. Last year the kitchen was completely remodeled...it's lovely...

Fantastic Fall Weekend Getaway

My family (wife, 2 children ages 9 and 7) and I spent an awesome weekend this past fall at the Chalet du Soleil in Vail. You could not ask for a better location in the heart of Vail! We were able to enjoy mountain biking on the Vail race course, shopping and dining in Lionshead all within a few minutes walk from this location. The house has great European charm and with the newly renovated kitchen is perfect for cooking meals in. The owners look after all the details to include freshly pressed linens and a bottle of wine waiting for us on our arrival! As we walked into Lionshead, I imagined how perfect this location would be during ski season as you are literally a few minutes walk to the Lionshead Gondola. I'd highly recommend this property for any group or family looking for a great home to spend a relaxing vacation during any season in the heart of Vail!

My family and I just spent several weeks at the Chateau and had a great time. The water feature is WONDERFUL and you can hear the creek from nearly every window, the views are wonderful, the location is perfect. The home itself is very comfortable and the owners are very attentive. It was easy for us to settle into a vacation routine and the Chateau was a perfect home base. Miss it already!

Heather: We loved your "cabin" - it is so well-appointed and welcoming. The grandchildren loved the sledding and "snow fun" on the hillside when they weren't skiing. We had a great "tailgate" lunch yesterday -- I took sandwiches and drinks to the cul de sac below the gondola -- not a moment was wasted on the slopes and the weather has been perfect for full days of fun -- even a remarkable snowfall last night -- so beautiful!

We couldn't have been happier with the setup of this property. It truly feels like a home away from home, upgrades have been added smartly over the years without degrading from the ski house charm of the property. The owners were very gracious and made a point of being there to show us everything in person and checked in several times throughout the week to make sure everything was up to expectations. Adding to the experience, the ski slope is a short walk from the front door and you can access pretty much everything you want without using your car. We were spoiled rotten and would do this again in a heartbeat!

My wife and I recently returned from our first visit to Chalet du Soleil (1/2011). We had several friends visit and stay with us. All commented on how nice the property was. I read the reviews prior to securing this property for our vacation. I can now also add that the owners went the extra mile to make our stay comfortable. It truly did feel like home. We will definitely consider Chalet du Soleil for future vacations. Thank you, Heather and family, for your outstanding hospitality and attention to detail.
