We just returned from a 2.5 week stay in Marilyn and Kevin's lovely condo, and we felt very much at home there. We love the location: Waikoloa Colony Villas are within the Waikoloa Beach Resort area, near two major resort hotels, shops, restaurants, walking trails, and a great beach, but in the midst of all the tourism-focused activity, the small, beautifully landscaped Colony Villas community has a peaceful, relaxing vibe. There's a pool and hot tub, a smaller pool for younger children, a tennis court and a fitness room. The condo is well-located near the aforementioned amenities, and yet it's very private. It's very clean, beautifully maintained and thoughtfully appointed with lots of features that enhance its comfort and practicality, like ceiling fans in every room, including the master bath; truly comfortable beds; quality sheets and towels in abundance (including beach towels); beach chairs and beach/water gear; robust WiFi throughout the unit plus an ethernet connection; plenty of hangers, and more. The phantom screen on the front door is great. It creates lovely cross-ventilation that means you don’t have to turn on the air conditioning as often – the trade winds waft through the unit. We appreciated the three different sized coolers available for our use: small, medium, large. My husband loves to cook, and we both love to eat and so it’s great that the kitchen is extremely well-equipped (garlic press! rice cooker! countertop grill! sushi dishes!). We've been coming to the Villas for several years but this was the first time we rented a unit directly from an owner. This one puts the others to shame. Another important point: Marilyn was responsive, courteous and professional throughout our experience - from the original booking through the end of our stay. She demonstrated every step of the way that she takes a strong personal interest in the satisfaction of her guests. We look forward to our next visit next year, and we highly recommend this lovely condo.

Perfect home away from home

We could not say more about how well stocked this home was for all of our needs. We loved using it as a home base to go boogie boarding in Hapuna, snorkeling at "2-Steps", exploring the active lava flows, walking down to the nearby resorts to watch the whales, dolphins, and turtles, etc... They had boogie boards, snorkel gear, toys, towel, chairs and umbrellas for the beach, tennis rackets and balls for the on-site courts, all of the kitchen supplies you could imagine, great beds, and beautifully decorated home that was incredibly comfortable. They were so helpful and responded quickly to answer any questions we had along the way. Mahalo, for allowing us to stay in your fantastic vacation home! We highly recommend it :)

OUR BEST HAWAII TRIP EVER

My family has come to the islands for the last 6 Christmas seasons. We have stayed in condos on Maui, Oahu, and Kauai. This past visit to the Big Island was the best Xmas yet. The condo had everything we needed to thoroughly enjoy our stay. We walked every morning to Starbucks, lounged by the pool, and took many excursions around the island to snorkel,surf and relax. The condo is nicely furnished and was very clean, came equipped with umbrellas, chairs, coolers etc. Looking forward to returning next year. Don't miss the happy hour at Lava Lava (great $5 Mai tai) Aloha...

Disappointing - Not Recommended

My sister and I rented here for one week. We liked the location and layout of the villa, but were very disappointed by the lack of basic supplies and a broken central air conditioner that didn’t get repaired until the fourth day of our one week stay. Most of the supplies which were supposed to have been available were empty, except for the dishwashing detergent box which had one use left in it. Lack of air conditioning, however, was a much bigger problem because the trade winds were down and it was very hot and humid during our stay. After spending our first full day with barely operative air conditioning (the villa cooled only to 86 degrees) we called the owner’s local manager for help at 8:00am the next morning. She told us we should call the owner. We did so and Marilyn said she would ask the manager to come over shortly to look at the problem. We waited, but she didn’t arrive until 4:30pm. She told us that this problem has occurred before and that she did not know how to fix it. We were told a service company would have to look at the problem the following day. We asked about fans as a temporary measure and were told none were available other than the ceiling fans. The following day two service people arrived and advised us that another company would need to be called in to fix this particular problem. Finally on July 6th, the fourth day of our stay, the air conditioner was repaired (a faulty switch we were later told was the problem). When I returned home to the mainland I spoke on the phone with Marilyn and she was very apologetic about this situation. She told me that she would add $100 to our deposit return as compensation for the air conditioning and lack of basic supplies and promised that she would take steps to see that these problems were fixed for future guests. Although we appreciated this small gesture we would have preferred a quicker, more urgent response in our hours of need on the island. A temporary window a/c unit or fans for the bedroom would have at least given us some relief and a chance at a decent night’s sleep, but neither were available. We were frustrated by the slow response to what we viewed as a major problem. The end result was a significant negative impact on our vacation. Afterwards my husband pointed out that nearly 4 out of the 5 reviews on the HomeAway listing were guest comments entered by the owner. I think we got fooled by this when we made our plans. We would definitely not stay here on a future visit.

Owner response: We are deeply concerned with your discontent concerning our home and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration you experienced as a result of the issues you have raised. We strive to provide the perfect environment to share with our guests and our goal is for every guest to have a wonderful experience. We definitely appreciate criticism and suggestions to improve our second home vacation rental. In fact, it’s one of the only ways we can improve and we want to assure you that appropriate steps have been taken to correct a recurrence. Please be assured that this is not indicative of the usual standards of service we strive to achieve. We completely understand your dissatisfaction and discomfort with the air conditioning situation. It is extremely unfortunate that the timing of the air conditioning malfunction occurred on the July 4 Holiday. Attempts by both our On Island Manager and our Condo Association Maintenance Staff who both responded to correct the problem ( initially appearing to be a programming issue) and were unsuccessful in restoring it to full operating capacity. Regrettably our regular Air Conditioning Service provider was away on vacation and the earliest time any alternate company could respond was a day later. You are right though – there are measures that should been in place to make your stay more comfortable. While we do have a portable fan available in the laundry room we are now adding two tower cooling units to provide additional comfort. (window a/c units are unfortunately prohibited by the Homeowners Association) We are also developing a more in depth resource pool of local maintenance and repair contractors to ensure a more expedient response time. Thank you for bringing to our attention the lack of some of the supplies - apparently we fell below our usual standard in insuring all advertised supplies were stocked and for that we apologize. It is regrettable we had not been made aware of this during your stay or we would have addressed this issue immediately and hopefully have made your week less frustrating. Our housekeeper is very responsive would have gladly replenished any lacking items. With 82 positive comments and reviews received from our guests this is our first review that was less than complimentary. This is a huge concern with us and we take it very seriously. We value our guests' experience and share in your disappointment that you were not completely satisfied.

We have been return guests about 8 years to this paradise within paradise. We have been travelling to Hawaii for 30 years, and by lightyear measurements this is hands down the best property on all ot thel islands. Marilyn and Kevin are so very kind and give such fantastic rates and their condo is in a perfect location, perfect island, perfect grounds, perfect pools, perfect everything. We especially enjoy Sunday playing with the local people and their wonderful children. We work hard all years to come to this wonderful oasis. I really cannot write enough to thank the Brown's for their wonderfujl and welcoming aloha and sharing their lovely dream home with us.

We rented Marilyn and Kevin's unit for two weeks and had the most glorious time. First impression: Fantastic. After a closer look - still fantastic. This vacation spot is wonderful. The furnishings are top notch and having wireless all over the house is a big bonus. The kitchen is complete with everything a person could use. The unit is very spacious with a great layout. Marilyn thinks of everything when you rent from her. She provides a great list of to do's and many suggestions for good restaurants, etc. There are beach chairs, snorkels and boogie boards. I can't say enough good things about our stay. Loved happy hour at Tommy Bahama's and Ruth Chris. Had the most memorable dinner imaginable at Four Seasons Beach Tree. Rent from Marilyn and Kevin - you won't be disappointed.

This is our 5th time to the Big Island in 10 years, and our third in Waikoloa, and we've agreed that this is, without a doubt, the most private, secluded, relaxing location that we've found. We spent two weeks at this condo and could have easily spent two years there. What a beautiful home, completely stocked with everything you could possibly need: kitchenware, beach gear, laundry. Don't look for an end unit in Colony. The way that the buildings are structured, it's actually the two middle units that are best positioned (end units overlook other buildings). The two large decks of this condo -- outdoor dining downstairs, two lounge chairs upstairs -- look out on the Kings Trail and golf course, which means that you see very few people from either deck. At night, it's so dark that you can stargaze and see things that you couldn't dream of spotting on the mainland. We've never had such a secluded, private feeling at a condo before. Funny story: while at the Queen's Marketplace, I overheard two condo owners complaining about their guests: "They whine that there aren't wine glasses or sushi dishes. As if I'm supposed to cater to their every whim!" The other owner agreed. Marilyn will never get those sorts of complaints. The kitchen has every amenity imaginable, from crock pots and rice cookers to sushi dishes and wine glasses. The beach closet has coolers, chairs, umbrellas, snorkels and boogie boards. I can't think of anything that we could have possibly needed that wasn't there. This condo has all of the comforts of home and more! Bottom line: I'd recommend this condo in a heartbeat, and can't wait to come back. We also discovered a great, free activity this time around. At the Mauna Lani, they have a Thursday night free hula/luau show that has tons more fire twirling than the expensive luau (the one thing that the kiddo actually wants to see). It's definitely something to see. Have a great trip!

Great Week in Hawaii

My wife and I stayed in the Villa for about 9 days and two friends joined us for about 7 of the days. The location was great, beautiful spot, and of course it's Hawaii! But best of all we felt like we had all the luxuries of being at home. Very comfortable and completely furnished. The owner was very accomodating and everything was very organized. The place is nicer than the photos show and the pool, tennis court and other nearby accomodations were great. Lots to do in the area. I highly recommend this place.

8/8 – 8/19 Bellevue WA Marilyn & Kevin, Thanks for the use of your condo. It sure was beautiful there and the condo is in excellent shape. Only positive comments here. The use of the snorkeling equipment versus going to Snorkel Bobs was great and we used the blue and white little cooler everyday!!! Not to mention the Boogie boards. We explored many beaches and some we have never been to before. We only ran the air conditioner for a very short period. Maybe an hour total for the whole time we were there. The amenities in the condo were excellent. Thanks again !!

We just returned from our stay at this condo. It was clean, beautiful and comfortable! The mountain and garden view from the lanais are awesome. The location of the condo within the development can't be beat for privacy and access to pool/tennis courts. Our kids loved playing in the yard while I cooked dinner. I would recommend this condo for families or couples. The king beds are really comfortable! Our favorite beach at Mauna Kea was only a 15mins drive away. Mahalo!

This beautiful villa was just as advertised, private, peaceful and comfortable. Wonderful location for walking, shopping and restaurants, as well as close proximity to wonderful beaches. The owners were very helpful and generous, having the villa stocked with beach chairs, mats, umbrella, etc. for beach outings, and a well-stocked kitchen for cooking at "home." Favorite Hiking: Kihilo Bay Lagoon - wear comfortable shoes - a great place to spend a couple of hours wandering around. Hike down to Captain Cooks Bay for great hike and snorkeling. This condo met and exceeded our expectations! And it was perfect for two couples (the extra half bath was a bonus too!), we enjoyed homemade breakfast and fresh exotic fruits on the lanai. The kitchen is well stocked and we prepared many meals there. It felt like we were staying at a resort with the tennis court and well maintained pool/spa right in front of the condo. We look forward to our next visit to the island, and to hopefully stay at the condo again! Thanks Marilyn for all your help and suggestions, we definitely referred to your list more than once.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Your condo has everything we hoped for and then some. What a wonderful feeling at the end of a new days adventure, coming back to a cozy place that feels like home away from home. You've done an excellant job in decorating and making your guests feel like its their very own place in paradise. Liza and I were blessed to have celebrated our 10th anniversary in your beautiful home. Mahalo! Favorite places to eat: Cafe Pesto, Macaroni Grill & many more...Favorite coffee place: Kona Joe's, Favirite event: Blue Hawaii Helicoptor Tour, Jacks Island Tour for classic sightseeing!!!!!

We enjoyed your home immensely, the tranquility and peace was fantastic! You have done an outstanding job in your interior decorating and in all of your home's amenities. We were so blessed to have found Marilyn's place to celebrate our 10 Wedding Anniversary. This was our home away from home. Every conveniences of home from dishes to ironing board, from well decorated rooms to snorkeling equipment, the owners spared no expense to make sure your stay is enjoyable. Every morning, we loved sipping coffee at our private lanai upstairs and downstairs with a view of the mountains. Located in a quiet, gated community, steps from the tennis court and swimming pool what more do you need. The Hilton located less than 3 minutes away, is huge but this condo is beautiful, private and much more affordable than "The Disneyland-Hilton Hotel". And if you don't feel like cooking at home, check out Cafe Pesto near Kawaihee Harbor, affordable and great meals. Marilyn was so helpfully in giving us additional tips, just ask.... You will be as blessed as we were to find how accommodating, friendly Marilyn and Kevin are. We hope to come back soon! Mahalo! Gary & Liza

Marilyn & Kevin, Thank you for sharing your home with us. This location is very nice and extremely relaxing. Though we were here just a few short days we enjoyed all the comforts of home. We though the black sand beaches (near the volcanoes) were gorgeous. The Zip Line at Big Island Eco Adventures was a blast and the guides, Gordon and Shannon were very entertaining. Mahalo!!

The condo was wonderful and beautifully equipped. We had a great time. A piece of advice: Call ahead for tour times. We missed out with the coffee plantation and the seahorse farm. We loved the Heiau and the City of Refuge and the Petroglyphs right near your condo! We did not see any thing like this on other islands. Also the Botanical gardens north of Hilo are great! WOW!! Spectacular Villa!! Our family had a fantastic week here on the Big Island. Kids loved the pool, beaches, beaches, geckos, and volcanoes! Many thanks for sharing your home. Marilyn, I am sorry it has taken me so long to write to you. Forgive me. Your home is beautiful. The offerings are endless. The Big Island is life changing. We have thoroughly enjoyed each and every moment that we have been on the Island. My husband and I desperately needed a vacation that would allow for rest and relaxation. We found it, and so much more. We have explored the Island in depth. We love Tex Drive-In: the Malasados are to die for. We swam with the turtles, everyday. Watched every sunset as if it were our last. Shopped many of the Island's Farmers' Markets. Fished off the cliffs, just south of Hilo. Stood over the volcano, and basked in its glory. We are celebrating our 30th anniversary, as you know, and we could not have chosen a better place to reflect upon this accomplishment. Thank you for the detailed instructions you sent us. Thank you for the suggestions you gave us for enjoying the Island. But most of all, thank you for sharing your beautiful home. We feel blessed to have found the perfect place to stay while visiting Hawaii. Lois & Bill

Marilyn, I wanted to take the time and say Thank You. Your condo was amazing and great location for exploring the entire island. It was much more than we expected and from what I learned at the Hilton time share presentation much less expensive than what other people were renting condos there for. After spending our last 2 nights in a hotel we really understood how great your place was, but we had an idea from the second we arrived. I have told many people about your condo and people at work were looking at your booking calendar the other day. I hope we get the chance to stay there again. I spoke to one guy yesterday that was leaving for Kona today and he said he wished he knew about your condo when he had planned their trip when I showed him your web page. Thanks again. Jessie

A great condo at a great value

This condo was very clean and modern. It is obviously well taken care of. The unit has a peaceful view of some of the golf course as well as a large lava field and is very quiet. All the amenities that were listed in the ad are there. It was great to have use of the full size beach towels, snorkel gear and cooler. The full size washer and dryer came in quite handy. The kitchen is well equipped. We bought a week’s worth of groceries at Costco and packed our lunches in the cooler and used the grills in the pool area to prepare dinner. The location is great. Only a 30 minute drive to downtown Kona/Costco/Target. It's also 15 minutes from Hapuna Beach and Manua Kea Beach. Only about a 25 minute walk, Anehoomalu Bay (A-Bay) was a prime sunset viewing spot. Wiapio Valley, on the northeast side of the island, was about an hour and fifteen minute drive. The clubhouse for the Beach and Kings Golf Course is a five minute walk from the front door of the condo and the Hilton Waikoloa Village hotel is within walking distance as well. The owners were very friendly and just as easy to work with. I would definitely recommend this property to my family and friends. We would definitely try to stay here again if we ever make it back to Hawaii. Thanks for the great accommodations!

Thanks one more time for sharing your absolutely perfect villa with us. Our first week here was wonderful and the 2nd week even better when our friends Pam & Jack joined us. Your home is a perfectly set up for us staying here as a couple and is perfect with two couples. We enjoyed relaxing on the lanai's and watching the birds gathering materials for their nests.
