Luxury mountain home. This is the only Kirkwood rental home with private hot tub sunken in back deck. Enjoy floor to ceiling views from walls of windows looking out to dramatic, sunny, meadow and mountain vistas from every room. Beautiful, comfortable, clean living. A unique feature is the six level contemporary design (with original Gregory Hawthorne art), providing privacy and separate spaces for multi-family get-togethers.
Your group will enjoy cooking in a gourmet kitchen, equipped with brand new, top quality appliances. (Catering also available.) Lower level media/recreation room includes a big screen TV/DVD. The hot tub (with stereo) is sunken in the deck overlooking the meadow. Relax and star gaze after an active day on the slopes in the hot tub, which is just two steps out the back door!
Skiing... Some of the best skiing in North America. Kirkwood Mountain is renowned for getting the best snow in the Sierras due to its higher elevation. Not to mention the lack of lift lines. Base elevation of the house is 7300 feet, and the mountain goes up to 9500-10,000. For Cross Country buffs, step off back deck to FREE, groomed 5 K cross country ski trail. Or, across the road, there is 50K of groomed trails for a fee.
Sledding is plentiful--just minutes away, as various spots around the meadow. For those who want an more exotic sled ride--there are dog sled trips departing daily on the meadow.
Free Shuttle on demand to slopes—or walk short distance home.
Kids, young adults and adults will all enjoy this great family home and the excellent skiing at a higher elevation. Kirkwood is the best!

Great, large ski house

My extended family of 10 adults and grown children stayed here over New Year's week (2011). The house was roomy and comfortable, with great views of the meadow and mountains. The many levels make it easy for people to find their own private spaces. The 4 full baths made mornings easy. The long couches in the living room were great for lounging around and family time. With a little furniture-moving, following the owner's instructions, we were able to all sit around one table for meals. To get to the slopes, you take a shuttle bus from the driveway. This is convenient in that we didn't have to worry about driving and carrying skis from the parking lot, but it does take a little while to wait for the bus in the morning and afternoon, and the bus can take a circuitous route to get back home, if there are a lot of other people on it. (Please note that the house we rented in Utah for many years was ski-in, ski-out, so we are spoiled in this respect.) This house is actually an easy walk from the village/slopes, if you're not carrying your skis. On our snowed-in day, and had a nice walk to the village store to buy some milk and drink hot chocolate. The wireless network was great (especially at Kirkwood, where phone reception can be spotty). The kitchen was large and generally well-equipped, but surprisingly we couldn't quite find everything we wanted (e.g. blender or Cuisinart). We did make many good meals, though, and there was room for several of us to move around in the kitchen without bumping into each other. We also enjoyed using the hot tub - right out the back door, one step away! If we go to Kirkwood again, I'm sure we'd go back to this house.
Owner response:Just a note . . . There is a Cuisinart, blender, bread maker, toaster--they live in an appliance garage, tucked away to afford extra countertop. I will make a note in my "House Book" for future guests to find the appliances more readily. Also, the guests were visiting New Year's week--the busiest in the year. The shuttle is on-demand. I have not waited longer than 5 minutes. This was a lovely family--who booked a year in advance. They are welcome back anytime!

I'll echo the other comments...I rented this house for my extended family and it was terrific. Plenty of room for everyone with a great layout so everyone could be together when they wanted but could also get some privacy. Very clean, great kitchen, perfect location, wonderful views. My whole family gave it a big thumbs up and wants to return.

The house is clean and beautiful. The kitchen is fantastic for cooking and full of all sorts of appliances and gadgets. This is a wonderful, clean, open, beautiful vacation home. Additionally, the owner is pleasant and easy to work with. I recommend this property without any reservation. If we choose to go to Kirkwood again, we would stay here again in a New York minute.

The best experience we have had at Kirkwood! I can definitely say that this property is one of the finest rental properties at Kirkwood. You are not staying in a rental property, you are staying in a home! What a great Kitchen! It has everything you need. The location on the Meadow is the best. We enjoyed sledding and cross country skiing out the back door with our dog each AM before the lifts opened. The views are incredible through the wall of windows in the house!! We also enjoyed the hot tub out on the deck. You can look up and see the mountains and stars at night. It doesn't get much better than that. The owners are so nice to work with also. Everything about the rental process through VRBO was great. WE WILL BE BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!

We and our 3 sons & wives & 6 grandkids spent 4 glorious nights here. We skied, played in the deep snow of the meadow & vacant lot next door for 5 days. The place is beautiful, well appointed, well supplied, and most of all comfortable for such a large & (age) diverse group. Half the time we didn't even see the grandkids who hung out in the downstairs media room. The owners try very hard to please... and succeed. It may seem to be a lot of money, but for a group like mine, it's a bargin! We are definitely reserving it again... "same time next year"!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Beautiful modern home with great views. Did not feel like a rental, felt like we were visiting someone's home. Will definitely return next time.
